[Highlight] Ime Udoka is upset after Alperen Sengun attempted a wide open 3, benched him after the timeout.
Houston Rockets, where the coach is more toxic than the fans.
I’m so glad he’s gone here. His demeanor screams mean/evil
Yeah I mean he’s a sexual harrasser
you say that like the current coach isn’t a domestic abuser
You talking about mazulla?
Apparently, in 2009, he was arrested for domestic battery for grabbing a woman by the neck.
It was a bar fight
Man and here I thought Mazz was a fucking psycho that beat his wife but turns out it was a random drunk fight like 15 years ago. Very necessary context was missing. No repeat offenses and has been sober for over a decade apparently.
Yeah. It’s still not a good look but “domestic charge” automatically makes people assume he was beating his wife or something.
And he has def grown and learned from it. That’s all you can really hope for.
Yeah that’s what I thought when I read this comment, that’s why I was really surprised.
Yea but he says funny stuff so it’s okay
It’s easy to say in hindsight since his successor got you all a championship but this is a coach that took the Celtics to the Finals. His personal behavior is shitty and his coaching style isn’t for everyone, but he can obviously be an effective coach and I doubt most Boston fans would be that upset if he was still the coach.
I agree regarding his accomplishments here. But just watching I do believe he’s going to wear thin on a team and this is a great example. Sengun is going to remember this and not because Ime was teaching.
All the players loved him
They’re mostly sexual harassers.
Birds of a feather.
Brown? Tatum? White? Be specific if you’re going to say stupid shit like that
No, because why would I be specific when like 50% of famous men are harassers, and far higher for athletes, singers, actors, etc.
Holy made up statistic batman!
Simply my lived experience as a 32 year old man, watching a whole lot of harassers my age whine about the ‘male loneliness epidemic.’
Ok I’m sure that is a legitimate statement and I do believe you. Keep those things separate though without making a big generalization based on your experience. Don’t fall for the trap of placing your bias on your worldview so now all of a sudden you’ve fabricated a statistic to fit your narrative
Oh wow you’re so right that we shouldn’t generalize, that’s why christian fathers famously don’t intimidate the boys their daughters date!
You don’t know any of these people you weirdo. Making those assumptions of them says more about you than anything
Yes, obviously women are the real misandrists.
Ridiculous comment
Ime is making a hard case as the most overrated coach in the league. Doc is in shambles.
Damn, Doc can’t even win the hatred of /r/NBA. He truly is washed.
The better Joe Mazzulla looks, the worse Ime looks.
Though Ime isn’t drowning himself in glory, either.
I don’t even understand why he is mad lol. Sengun was wide open, the paint was clogged and his teammates weren’t doing anything
Shaq was left wide open from 3 plenty as well, he wouldn’t launch them though.
Wait what? The was not right shot for Sengun.
Ime is such hot trash. There’s 8 seconds on the clock you’re not gonna get a better shot than that.
Udoka “What kind of shot was that?
Sengun “I was wide open!”
Udoka “Get the fuck off the top man… get your ass off the top”
or something close to that, I think he’s saying top here like top of the key but hard to say
In which case Ime is right- if guys start picking their own spots instead of where they’re supposed to be, it’ll get even uglier bc it kills cutting and movement.
I was ready to be really critical of Ime but that context of true really matters.
He was wide open though lol and none of his teammates were really doing anything and the paint was clogged. I would be mad if he didn’t take the wide open 3
I wonder why the defenders didn’t get closer to him. Didn’t even put a hand up. Almost like they want him to take a 3. Wonder why.
Yea but there was literally nothing going on in this play at all. Kd was standing in the corner, Amen went to set a screen but his defender stayed under because Amen can’t shoot so there are 2 defenders ready for Sengun if he does drive, Reed was just standing at the right wing 3 pointer, and Jabari was just under the basket. Literally the best option here was for Segun to shoot. If he is a bad shooter don’t setup a play for him to be at the 3 point line. I would rather my player shoot a wide open 3 instead of dribbling into a clogged paint. This whole play call was shit from the start
The point was he wasn’t even supposed to be at the top of the key to even get the ball in the first place and his positioning there is essentially where your primary ball handler should have been which is hard when some 7 footer is bringing his defender over so of course there is no spacing for the rest of the players to make a play.
The guy with the ball isn’t even being defended and the rest of the defensive team was keying in on the next pass already, basically he put himself into an iso and his defender just dropped back lol.
Sengun should never be putting up 3s
You are a fucking idiot if you think someone wide open shouldn’t shoot especially when Sengun is the 2nd best scorer on the team. Clearly you don’t know basketball dumb fuck
Shoots 31% from 3. Which isn’t even the point.
Someone needs a nap
He is low 30% in 3s. And most of his 3s are wide open. He is a really bad shooter. And he is wide open for a reason (like Ben Simmons or Westbrook).
He was a really good shooter in Europe. Just can’t shoot the NBA 3 for some reason.
He was shooting real well during Eurobasket last summer as well and started the season super hot (I think 5⁄8 against OKC?). I thought he would make a jump this year and continue the shooting but his 3 just died after the first few games.
I mean i get that but there was nothing else going on in this play. KD was just standing in the corner, Amen went to set a screen but his defender stayed under because he knows Amen can’t shoot, Reed was just standing at the right wing 3 pointer, and Jabari was just standing under the basket. There was literally nothing else to do but shoot in this situation 😂😂 this was a horrible play call
Jabari was coming across the base line as Amen went to screen. Sengun just didnt let the play finish developing cause he saw an open 3 which isn’t his shot. You say there was nothing to do, when he had both a cutter and screener and didn’t use them at all.
Jabari cut and wasn’t open so why would Sengun do anything with that. And if you watch Jabari was literally walking under the basket before Sengun shot. And if he uses Amens weak ass screen(watch his screen) he would’ve still taken a 3 or a long range 2 😂😂 the best option was to shoot the wide open fucking 3 😂😂 i get that he isn’t the most efficient 3 point shooter but he is capable of making them. If he made the 3 Ime wouldn’t of said shit. This play call was ass. And Sengun is the second best scorer on the team… rewatch the video and actually look at what’s going on
You still have 9-10 second left on shot clock. You can easily run another simple play with the remaining shot clock.
That was by design. The best defense in the nba is leaving 30% shooters wide open and doubling players who matter. The warriors want him to take that shot.
There was still 8 secs on the shot clock when he shot, he could’ve passed to Shep to try and make something happen. Whether a pnr or go a set an off ball screen. Better options were available. Ime is trying to send a message to value possessions as they head into the playoffs.
He’s shooting 31%. Literally hurting his team every time he attempts a 3. If he wants to shoot 3s he needs to work harder
Hes shooting 31% overall but 42% on open 3s (though a small sample size). This is a fine shot for him to take
Thank you lol
Dude he is wide fucking open 😂😂 if you watch the play his teammates are literally not doing anything. He isn’t the most efficient 3 point shooter but he is capable of making them. I mean shit people use to clown Ben Simmons for not shooting wide open 3s but when the second best scorer on the rockets shoots a WIDE OPEN 3 while his teammates were doing absolutely nothing he gets benched… If he is such a bad 3 point shooter don’t run a play with him at the 3 point line. Bad coaching right here hence why the Rockets won’t win anything anytime soon. Joe Mazzulla would’ve told Sengun to shoot that shit if he didn’t shoot hence why Mazzulla is a champion
Right now you want me trust you and not Ime. How do you think your opinion stacks up?
It seems the coach wanted him elsewhere and allow someone who can shoot a 3 to be there.. idk exactly but thats what I think.
He’s shooting 31 pct from 3 this year. There’s a reason he was wide open.
Sengun shoots 30% from 3 lol you think just bc any player is open from 3 they should shoot it? You think if Westbrook or Shaq was open from 3 they should’ve been launching it away too?
He is legitimately wide open dude lmao and nothing was happening on the play. And if Westbrook is wide open he should definitely shoot especially if his teammates aren’t doing anything like on this play. And if Shaq is on the 3 point line there is a problem. Sengun shoots 42 percent on wide open 3s…
There’s 8 seconds on the clock you’re not gonna get a better shot than that.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have entered the chat
That would make more sense to me
A quick Google search shows he’s an awful shooter. Why be critical of a coach who knows the strategy and the strengths weaknesses of his players?
It’s like in rec league ball when all your bigs are jsut sitting around the 3 instead of getting tf in there and fighting in the paint
[deleted]
Maybe “top” like “tophat.” Like “You think you’re fancy? We don’t pay you to be fancy. Go foul under the rim and call the ref a bitch you wannabe fancy motherfucker.”
Ime follows getoffmydickerson
Once again alpi was the one who saved udoka’s ass
Game winner though
I’m not even an nba coach and I’m mad about it
Thats what im saying. Like imagine youre the coach and youre doing your job drawing up perfect plays and a player just ignores it and takes an ego shot.
Especially in end game where each possession is extremely valuable.
Drawing up the perfect plays… for ime Udoka. :) this is a wild statement. :)
Well he had to start with “imagine”
Fair enough :)
Imagine being the key word here. Udoka is not a guy who draws up perfect plays.
Gotta love a downvote train
Have you ever shot that shot
WHEN?!! *Patrick Ewing has entered the chat
The way he dribbles and pulls the ball up from his left is disgusting mechanics.
He got benched for taking a shot he doesn’t practice enough
Where is Patrick Ewing when you need him 😆
Is this 100% after the 3? Seems more like a reaction to a defensive breakdown.
Sengun has been taking and making those a lot more recently, so I wouldn’t really understand Ime being that mad about it — though this could be that possession in the fourth where the Rockets were letting go of the rope and they probably should have worked for a better shot.
Joe Mazzula would never
I can’t believe how bad the vibes are on this team. It may not be his fault, but KD sure can pick’em
It actually is kinda directly his fault lmao vibes were fine until the twitter stuff
This is complete revisionist history lol. They lost key players, there isn’t any evidence at all that the twitter stuff effected anything.
There was a noticeable shift in body language and total effort post all-star break which has just recently started to turn around.
Anybody who actually watches the rockets would not say the vibes are down. This team is missing key players and with a pretty bad roster construction is over performing and is finishing the season with some momentum on a 6 game winning streak. You guys just create your own narratives and run with them.
Sure the vibes are slightly better during these 6 games but it was bad enough they called a players only meeting. A large portion of rockets fans stopped watching the middle of the season because of how embarrassing the team had been playing.
Think it was more so the standing there and just deciding to take a dribble pull up. He didn’t actually wanna shoot that three
Props to Ime for letting him back on court so he could take that winning shot. They are divas but they were gritty to get that win
He gone
I agree they will trade him tomorrow
Ime hates Alpi
ikr lol Ime is lowkey scary too 😂 I wouldn’t wanna make him mad
But he trusted him enough to draw up the winning play for alpi. Make it make sense, my guy
rocket fans get ready for Kd-Giannis toxicity lol
Can Sengun really get anything he wants like Reggie was saying, especially with 9 seconds on the shot clock?
This type of coaching stuff historically kills teams by year 3. An open 3 in most context is a good shot today in NBA for players. If you want a free flowing offense where folks don’t get afraid of shooting or discouraged, then you can’t be screaming at one of your main guys for taking an open shot. Players get tired of this stuff even if you are a good coach
Fuck Ime.
Ime such a loser man
Segun shoots 3s better on 2k. Maybe he played 2k as himself and got confused?
Hate Udoka because he’s a bad person but Giannis needs this kind of coaching
Ime will be gone next year. You watch.
He looks to much like Adin Ross i hate it here
its starting to seem like things are compounding around Alpo. Wouldnt be surprised if he isnt happy there and eventually wants to go
Was a braindead shot warriors started running in transition immediately off that miss 😂
Can you blame the coach after same team held the record for the most missed at 27?
‘same team’ is definitely one way you could choose describe this completely different roster 8 years later, yeah
It’s crazy how we were kinda all in agreement that Ime was a better coach than Mazulla and we even credited Ime with the Boston finals win, and now the script is completely flipped
This is the first I’ve ever heard that people supposedly created Ime for the finals win. WTF? No they didn’t, not past engagement baiting BS.
That was like, for Joe’s first 20 games. Calm down.
There was literally a Simmons pod after they won the title. They called him third row Joe or whatever
“We were kinda all” is a bit different to Bill Simmons, a man who is paid to spout tripe.
Bills 100 yr old dad has been calling him 3rd row Joe until last year I think
Ime was suspended before 2022-2023. Mazulla won the finals at the end of 2023-2024 after his second complete season with the team.
It’s funny how KD is going to get rid of another coach. Is it like 7 in 7 years now?
I would’ve benched him too
I always rated Doc Rivers as one of the worst coaches ever to work in nba but compared to udoka he is like prime Pop..
Not even close
Nah this post about to make me defend Doc and I don’t wanna do that
