I’ve never been happier for someone to win a ring than Dirk. For years he had to hear about how he didn’t have what it takes, and not only did he prove everyone wrong, he ran an absolute gauntlet to do it.

I think Dirk and the Mavs would’ve had a very good chance of getting 2007 instead of yall if we matched up with anyone but the Warriors. That team was our kryptonite that year. I didn’t get over the 2006 finals and losing in the first round on 2007 until Dirk brought got a champion in 2011.

But it is both. Dallas was a pretty big underdog maybe not massive but the team was good and also caught fire at the right moments (i.e. Peja and Barea combining for 40+ when closing out the Lakers)

For reference: Miami was +175 at the start of the season to win the title in 2011 vs. +2000 for Dallas.

To compare: OKC are title favorites this season at +240 while the closest teams to 2011 Dallas in odds this year are Orlando and the Clippers at +1800, so 2011 Dallas beating 2011 Miami had a larger gap in title odds at the start of the season than Orlando vs. OKC this year and that’s with Caron Butler factored in as part of the preseason title odds and he blew out his knee mid season in 2011

Only LeBron haters and kids born that year downplay that roster.

I’m not gonna make the mistake LeBron stans make and call that team stacked to fit a narrative or whatever but they were 100% a worthy champion top to bottom

A big factor in the Heat being fun is that they were a superteam, but they were beatable, especially in 2011. Their 2 best guys werent a perfect fit and had kinks they needed to work out. They had Joel Anthony, Mario Chalmers, and washed up Mike Bibby as their 4-6 guys in playoff minutes. They were such a flawed team despite being so great with their best 3 guys. Everyone went in thinking they could beat the Heat while simultaneously thinking it was unfair that the LeBron-Wade-Bosh were all playing together.

LeBron tried to embrace it but couldn’t, it was part of the mental stuff that lead to his finals collapse. He has always wanted to be loved.

Wade on the other hand thrived, he would rock a top hat and be twirling his mustache if he had one.

a lot of jordan’s mystique comes from how little he engages with the media. it would ruin a lot of that if he had a podcast.

For Dirk to not be like “ehhh, it wasn’t a big deal, just basketball stuff in a hard series,” and to be able to open up and emotionally process it in a format that will be published to the public—as a German, mind you—just goes to show how much it irked him.

Major props to D Wade for being like “yeah, that was lame of me.” It’s so cool, it makes me almost like him.

Most of us mature a lot between 25 and 45 (or however old DWade is now), and cringe a little at shit we did back then. Good to see DWade is no different and can own up to it. Dirk being mature about it helps a lot, too.
