Crowd for Nets vs Wizards at the Barclays Center today.
These team are a combined 35-119, but the arena is still filled up.
This is the best tank off of the year…a year of many tank battles. The crowd came to see a moment in time
We still got our other tankpionship game with the Pacers on Thursday. Another sell out game incoming
I believe a small lottery percentage for the bottom 5 teams should be awarded to teams with the highest average attendance.
Some will say this just favors big market teams but not many big market teams are ever actively tanking/rebuilding and bottom 5 teams
Don’t make it raw attendance, make it % of capacity. Only issue you will run into is I’d guess most games are “sold out” anyway with it being people not showing up or not being able to shift tickets on the secondary market.
Exactly, teams would just dump cheap tickets to corporate sponsors to inflate those percentages.
I hate that this is immediately what everyone would do hahaha. Like fuck an actual competition,
Yeah, I went to the Warriors 600th straight ‘sellout’ a couple weeks ago (against the Nets) and I legit don’t even think the arena was half full. Super funny moment when they made the announcement about it being the 600th straight sellout during the game. Everyone was looking around at all the empty seats and laughing
“There were dozens of us in the arena that night! Dozens!”
But the nets only have 20 fans according to reddit.
Most people, including reporters and analysts believe this. When Zach Lowe did his live show in Brooklyn he thought it would be all Knick fans. Him and Beck were shocked when a good amount of people started cheering for the Nets. Obviously the Knicks out number us in terms of fans several times over, but the Nets certainly have a healthy fan base.
They’re bunch of clowns lol there are a lot of fans but I’m not blind to the reality that this isn’t a good time to be a fan when the team is tanking, a lot of us are hybernating and will come out when we’re competing.
Nets and dc have been near the bottom for ages lol.
Except the Nets were good from 2019-2024
The best tanker in history vs the best tanker of today
Nets games are also just generally really fun. Barclays is a great arena, tickets are cheap because the team sucks, and there’s generally just a high camaraderie of watching a bunch of pretty bad/mid players duking it out in real time.
Obviously I don’t want the Nets to suck forever but you can see SO much pro basketball in that arena for dirt cheap these days. I nearly sat courtside to see Wemby play there and it was like 1/6th the price it would be at any other arena.
and yet somehow this is possible in NYC so it’s not even like you’re in some random suburb of a smaller city and going to a game is super out of the way.
Nets/Clippers games are great value if you just like basketball.
Hard disagree that the arena is great- I think it’s pretty awful especially compared to MSG. I don’t think it does anything particularly well and it’s like they tried to turn it into a giant nightclub imo. Cheap prices are nice, but if someone got a choice between seeing a game at Barclays or msg, I would spend considerably more for the experience at MSG, and I’ve been to a bunch of games over the past decade at both.
The power of $20 seats, baby!!!
Just curious what the price of the tickets were. I would absolutely go watch the game if the tickets are cheap.
not related to the nets but kings tickets are regularly like $20. why wouldnt i go lol
Because it’s the Kings
20 dollars for an NBA game is a great price lol.
The “Yeah, the team sucks donkey dick but tickets are so cheap, it’s a great excuse to have a social outing with good friends and maybe get shitfaced if youre into that” experience is one of the few silver linings of having a bottom-dweller team.
Unfortunately, I think that once a team ascends into the marquee team echelon, it’s damn near impossible for tickets to ever come back down into those prices. It would take like 15 years straight of tanking for the Knicks or Lakers to ever get that cheap. I remember during the post-KD injured-Steph mini-stint, the franchise was still trying to price gouge us for $200 tickets for nosebleeds and a dogshit product where the team was clearly trying to tank to salvage something out of Steph being injured.
Yeah, Knicks Lakers Celtics Heat Bulls and maybe post-Dynasty Warriors are all in the tier of “Even when we suck, we have enough rich people who want to go to games in our city for the tickets to be expensive”.
Any other team just requires a good season or two of tanking to have their prices slashed.
Yeah, the downside of the nuggets being good is the tickets are way more expensive than they used to be with an especially massive hike after ‘23.
Remember the tickets for Kobe’s last game we’re cheap until he announced his retirement
Yeah 100%. Laker game minim tickets is so high up there. I would kill for a 20 dollar ticket
I coincidentally took my daughter to see Nets/Kings at Barclays for $16/ticket last year. A kind Nets employee upgraded our seats so we were right behind the Nets tunnel for most of the game. Was an awesome time.
I think it was Bill Simmons who said he got the Clippers ticket (when they were bad) because he got to see the visiting teams play
These tanking teams are running g league squads out there. Might as well go to those for $5 or whatever then
You still get to see whatever team they’re playing for $20 lol
Exactly. I’d go and see Ant or Wemby fucking up guys for 3 quarters for 20
Those tickets went for like $45 for the back row of the upper bowl. Still not too bad.
I’ve seen tickets as low as $17 for games this year.
I bet it’s at least a $100 if they’re playing the Lakers
nique clifford puts up some sexy 8 points. worth it to me
All jokes aside, I hope he pans out. I enjoy watching him play when he’s on
Do you live in Sacramento, but cheer for Minnesota because how bad the Kings are?
i didnt watch any sports at all until last december where i watched a sports highlights clip and the first video recommended after was vikings coming back down 0-33 at halftime and i thought it was so cool and the jerseys were sick so i picked the vikings as my team. so now i like all minnesota teams, my mom loves seahawks and dad was a chargers so those are like my “secondary teams”. i didnt have any connections to basketball so i basically was like wtf why am i only watching the wolves, i love purple and im from sacramento so now i watch a lot of kings too
What he say fuck me for
I regularly buy lakers or Clippers tickets to go watch the heat. These days mostly clippers. Cheap(er) tickets are cheap(er) tickets.
I always thought heat tickets were pretty cheap…. Edit oh I see- you mean vs bad teams..
Maybe OP lives in the L.A area?
Staples Center is off the Metro Rail so it was easy to get to. The Intuit Dome…not as easy.
Yea, moved to Cali for work.
$20 to chill with the only fanbase that still cheers for this team? Bruh. Missing out.
we have rugby games with $20 tickets that will sell 5,000 tickets in a 50,000 seat stadium. those teams are far better in their sport than the kings are in theirs. this is why i don’t understand complaints about nba attendance - even the worst teams are getting huge numbers.
just checked google and it looks like the hawks had 94% as the worst attendance last year which is crazy
A big portion of the seats are bought by corporate.
And if they don’t attend, you just have huge swaths of seats empty (even though they are paid for and count for attendance).
I remember a few years ago, someone posted a clip of a Rockets game, asking why the stadium was empty. Houstans chimed in and explained the phenomenon.
that sucks from a viewing pov, but i guess it’s great for the teams if they can show high attendance
Yea it sounds like a vibe until you realize you’re getting a worse view of the game and you’ll be paying more for a beer than the ticket 🤣
I’d probably still do it though. I hope when we get a team they suck 😂
We gave you Keon. You should be nicer to us.
Same for the Wiz, can get in the door for 15 bucks this week, sub 60 for second bowl seats too
I’m a Kings fan who lives in Portland and I’m surprised those tickets aren’t cheaper. I regularly get Blazers tickets for $10 and they’re playing way more entertaining games than the Kings right now
People pay like $50 for standing room only bulls games lmao
Which row
Nets games are premium events for tourists. Super cheap compared to a Knicks game.
When I was there for an away game I felt like 50% of the people there weren’t actually fans.
There was a British person behind me who was amazed at how they could shoot free throws
Lol. I’m British. My cousin had never seen a basketball game in his life — now he has seen one. He went to see the Nets when on holiday in NYC just a few months ago. Pretty much because he had a free evening, it was cheap and he was staying not far from the Barclays center.
Im Aussie and I’m a nets fan. Tbh with you i see a lot of nets gear in Sydney where i live than any other teams, ok the lakers are probably a close second. Im not saying they’re all fans but i could be wrong. It’s just surprising to see.
is it Kyrie and Ben Simmons or independently of them? (I understand neither guy is an Aussie legend but idk what their influence is)
I see a bit of both, most people i see wearing jerseys here are from KD and kyrie and sometimes the legendary Patty Mills, definitely not Simmons lol.
But most of the time its just regular nets branded gear, NY is a beloved city for a lot of Aussies who travel to the US so I am not surprised they will buy them as souvenirs, but surprisingly i dont see a lot of knicks gear as much as i see the nets ones.
I have a great memory with Nets. I wanted to see an event in both Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden. The one in Barclays Center was a Nets game and they were giving away gray Brooklyn beanies to first 5k attendants. I missed out on the beanie by minutes and was so upset.
I was going through a rejection, so at the moment, my mind was craving for a sweet small victory. I also had a Brooklyn Nets draft cap. So I decided to ask out people who got the beanie to trade it with a draft cap.
First person said not a chance, sorry.
Second person said no, sorry.
I was upset. But decided to keep it going. My brain needed this victory.
Finally the third person gave me the beanie and didn’t accept the cap back. I started crying out of joy because this mental victory was huge.
Only one of these 3 were American. One was French and one was Australian. Also spotted few Germans, Brits, etc. I was baffled yes it was a lot of tourists.
I learned a huge lesson as an immigrant, in my first year. No one ever gives you anything in US especially if you are a first generation, non developed country origin immigrant. You need to ask, you need to be vocal, you need to suffer rejection and you get it.
Can confirm Nets tix right now are incredibly affordable relative to what everything else in NYC costs
I was in New Orleans in November and decided to go to a Pelicans game for $15. Had a good time and it was their first win of the year!
Crazy cheap compared to Knicks, and if I’m already getting to MSG a couple times a year it’s great to catch random other teams with a fun afternoon or evening in BK…great arena
also decent food
It was $30 for tickets to the Pistons vs Nets game I went to early March (in Brooklyn). Not really good basketball but a good time. Left and looked at my phone, and Bam had scored 83, I was unbelievably confused lol.
Probably around 50 was looking at this game last week and that was the cheaper
It depends on who they play…. If it’s the lakers it’s like 75\( if it’s the jazz or wizards it’s probably 10\)
I wanted to go when the lakers were in Ny and cheapest I found were 250 honestly best bet is to do the two hour drive to Philadelphia
not super cheap? 2nd row directly behind visitor bench is \(446, not uncommon to find something pretty good under \)200 in the lower bowl.
If they play a good team, tickets get bought up and you are at the mercy of resellers.
I had tickets I had to give away. Nosebleeds. Bought for \(14. By game day they were going for about \)35 and up.
Cheap. If you want to watch other teams, you go to Nets games
I saw 30 bucks for the cheapest Nets ticket. About 29 dollars overpriced. I went to their game against OKC a few weeks ago and left at halftime the Nets are an embarrassment to the NBA with the team they are putting out.
embarrassment to the NBA with the team they are putting out.
So like the Knicks for most of the last two decades?
The nets almost always sell out, I wanna say I saw they average like 99% of tickets sold every home game during the season regardless of record or roster. It’s mainly tourists and other non-fans looking for something to do and a FAR cheaper alternative than the Knicks and MSG. Far and away the number one reason the Nets leaving NJ was a good move
sunday afternoon game, probably some of the cheapest tickets available in nyc all year, plus i’ve been getting a fuck ton of Nets advertisements on instagram recently. plus a great activity to do for families after Easter mass.
also i wanna say spring break is just wrapping up? maybe that’s just for private schools though.
I would also be quite interested in data points related to the location. The fact that this stadium is in the heart of Brooklyn and accessible by metro probably makes a huge difference. I bet if the locations were swapped it wouldn’t be as full as this.
I was outside the arena a few years ago and the area is very walkable. You can go down Atlantic into Brooklyn Heights, which is a beautiful neighborhood with some great views nearby. Certainly not the worst place to spend a day. I’d pop into a game if the price was right, even if the basketball itself is a war crime.
We need more walkable arenas with shit to do around it, parking be damned if theres decent public transit or if it needs to be slighter farther away.
walkable
its america
Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown America.
Yup. NJ was struggling to sellout during their finals runs. While with Brooklyn someone is going to be looking for some event at any time.
Yeah it’s still an afternoon basketball game in New York City on Easter Sunday. Tickets were probably like, 12 dollars and you can bring the whole family.
yea exactly, run this game back in DC and it will be a ghost town
Perks of being in a big market
I mean it is New York and there is plenty of tourists and people in general
And MSG is daylight robbery, even when the knicks were bad tickets were absurd and it could be cheaper to see kyrie, KD, and harden play over in Brooklyn
tbf the garden is an experience.
no doubt but they fucking make you pay for it
Went to a Pistons-Knicks game there last season (happened to be in NYC that weekend), MSG is cool, but it mostly just felt like an old arena
Nothing wrong with an old arena that does everything right for a fan’s experience in terms of ease of getting in, amenities/food/drinks/bathrooms close to every seat and lack of traffic/ease of public transit on the way out along with the history of literally the greatest arena ever made.
Getting in and out was about the same as any other arena. The lack of traffic and public transit was great, but that’s just NYC for you. It’s location was by far the coolest thing about it
And Brooklyn has more residents than the entire metros of other nba cities: Milwaukee, Portland, Sacramento, Indianapolis, Cleveland, OKC, Memphis, SLC and New Orleans
Wha tourist is going to a nets game
Someone looking for something to do for cheap on a holiday weekend.
Ones who couldn’t get MSG tix
Exactly. Paying \(25 vs \)200 is a no-brainer
Did you not see the video?
It’s a great deal for foreign visitors who are casual fans and may never get another opportunity to see a live NBA game
It’s NYC, People are always looking for something to do, and its Kids’ day, so those tickets are probably cheaper than usual.
95% of the arena probably don’t even know they’re watching a G League game.
How many Kids’ days do the Nets have? I went to the Nets-Cavs game on 3⁄1 and that was a Kids’ Day. Surprisingly entertaining game too.
This was the 4th one this season
It was a great atmosphere. Nothing but good things to say about Barclays
I like when the man throws the ball into the circle, yes yes.
fun fact, Jesus actually resurrected at 30 AD Nets-Wizards game.
Don’t you know your NBA history? Jesus plays for the Hawks.
After a two-year hiatus, Jesus Christ returned to the NBA last night, taking the court with his former team, the Atlanta Hawks. Christ, who quit the sport in May 1994 to focus on spreading His message of universal love and compassion, made His triumphant return last night against the Bulls, just in time for Easter Sunday. https://theonion.com/christ-returns-to-nba-1819563859/

This was a joy to read. Thank you for sharing it.
On oldie, but a goodie.
Tourists. Almost always tourists who can’t get in to the Garden. This might look great yet we have the fewest amount of season tickets holders in the league
So what. Selling out is cool and good for the nets and basketball in general
And since they’re not die hard fans, they’ll root for the home team most of the time too which makes for good energy even for low stakes games.
Yup
Unless any big star comes to rob the nets and it just becomes sad seeing the arena cheer for the away team.
Yeah unfortunately thats the major downside lol
And this is why the Nets are never gonna relocate, much to the majority of this sub’s chagrin. They still sell a lot of tickets even if the fanbase is fickle and the team is ass. Sometimes, average folks and tourists just want to go to an NBA game and if they can do so for ~$10-20 a ticket, why not?
Don’t worry we’ll get better again and dominate NYC before you know it.
This is a generational Tank Bowl tbf
Why is this surprising? Will Riley draws crowds 🤷♂️
Talk about loyal fans
It’s Kids Day with games and cheap concessions. That’s how they juiced this abysmal tankathon. I’m here with my kid btw so: guilty as charged!
FYI most games at Barclays is 75% Jewish and 1⁄2 of them are orthodox due to it being Brooklyn .
It’s Easter they are bored and most didn’t pay for the tickets .
Every NY stadium is a majority businesses with season tickets . If you own a medium a medium size business if you call every vendor one will have free tickets .
If you ship a lot with FedEx or ups your rep can always get you free tickets . The more you spend the better the games you can get lol
Mr Whammy’s there no doubt
NBA fans when tanking teams have empty arenas : “I don’t like this “ NBA fans when tanking teams fill out arenas : “I don’t like this “
Our last game against the Nets I was surprised at how many people were still in the arena when they were down by 30. Respect to their fanbase. Gonna be fun to watch when they are better
Imagine being a player on a tanking team, facing another tanking team. What’s the mentality? Is it like, “that dude is trash at missing shots, I can miss way more than him”
Believe it or not, the players are still trying their best. It’s the coaches who drag out anyone playing well.
I believe it. It’s gotta be such a mindfuck tho.
There’s a Sicko Convension happening in town
I’m confused, I thought the league was on the verge of dying
I live down the street from Barclays Center and there’s always large crowds for Nets and Liberty game days in the neighborhood. I like Barclays Center! It’s a very nice arena
See? Tanking can also be good for the league.
True basketball connoisseurs!
It’s nets kids day. Imagine taking your child to see wizards v nets. Jail.
This game is either going to be 13-18 or 299-302 no in betweens
It looks like almost everyone had the day off.
Tix are cheap and it’s one of the final times the fans can see their team until November. The final home game is this Thursday in fact
It was kids day. And tickets were cheaper like 100-150 dollars for a couple rows behind the basket.
Was it one of those days where the team donates tons of free tickets to the boys and girls clubs
If tickets are $20 I’d just go to go
Cheap tickets
The city of New York loves Trae Young
You can get Nets tickets on groupon for cheap, cheap. I took a girl on a date to the game KD got hurt for like $40 or something stupid.
Maybe Americans underestimate how much of a tourist thing this is. When I was in the States I watched Heat vs Wizards when they both sucked, and Jets vs Titans when they both sucked. It was awesome just being there.
Tbf Barclay will always mostly be filled with other teams sports fans, or tourists. When I went last I hardly saw any nets gear lol
When theyre playing a non-star team is pretty netural but when the stars come to town, so do the bandwagoners.
Bread and circuses babyyy
Weekend afternoon games are moneymakers
Stadiums give out free tickets so that it doesn’t look empty and they can still make money off the concession stands. I was given free group tickets to multiple nets games.
Tickets are cheap af and ppl ain’t doing shit else lol
Ahh, messi is playing today?
To be fair it is harder to try to lose than to try to win. So this game is competitive in a way
$5 tickets!
I bet most people there don’t even know what tanking is and just want their team to win.
Ayeee
The blow it up bowl, i tried watching but I couldn’t make it through the whole game lol.
Misanthropes, all of them
The tickets were probably dirt cheap. The nj nets don’t have many fans. I remember years ago when they still played in the izod center that tickets were going for literally 1 cent.
As a kid my dad and I got to see a bunch of the biggest stars on visiting teams play in jersey. We were too poor to go to the garden
NYC a transplant city and it’s way easier to go see your team play in Barclays compared to MSG. I’ve been to MSG once to see the Bucks compared to Barclays a dozen times.
Is the area generally safe?
Safer than Philly
Easter tourists.
There is literally thousands of open seats LOL
Would have to pay me to go watch Nets vs Wizards
😂
Free tickets maybe?
Wizards let a guy score 83 on them
And the 6th pick goes to the Brooklyn Nets,… and the 5th pick goes to the Washington Wizards lol
WHY???
I’m very much of the Knicks > Nets camp, but at the same time, Barclay’s >>>> MSG
I see plenty of empty seats in the lower bowl area, the hell you on about op
And people wonder why Memphis should be relocated when they average 3.5k/game of attendance
i was watching knicks v grizzlies last week and it looked like half the seats were empty 😭
AI crowd
In one of the biggest cities in the world. NY fans have a distorted concept of what fan support is like in the rest of the country. They don’t realize that without their city’s population, they’d have shit attendance just like any other mid-ass team.
That’s elite-level salt—might need a timeout for your blood pressure.
Coming from a Miami fan?
There are A LOT of empty seats there. Look more closely. That place is like 50% full.
