Ben Simmons played PG at montverde and LSU, but in the nba, him at PG was ultimately unworkable. He was a PF that could switch defensive matchups 1-5, yes, but the sixers fans were begging and pleading the entire time they had him to get an actual lead ball handler, which he was not. … yes. At least to the 2nd part. Elite defender and great playmaker. Even scoring wise there are worse players than him. It was a lot thanks to his size mismatches and good team around him rather than pure talent, but 16pts on 58ts% across his 4yr prime is better scoring numbers than most the league. Of course he made his fucking team better, what the hell are we even talking about here. Did he have a lot of untapped potential to be even better? Absolutely. He had a disappointing career. But to think that he wasnt a positive impact at some point is crazy revisionism and recency bias.

That’s not it. Ben’s 2pt FG% is better than Steph, Harden, Wade, Kobe, etc and slightly better than LeBron, Luka, and SGA. So he’d still be more efficient than those guys if they didn’t take 3s either.

He was just very efficient (on moderate volume) as a 2pt shooter. Though, like Shaq, his TS% is lowered by his FT%.

Yeah, his volume was like half of Luka, LeBron, or SGA before his meltdown (16ppg). It’s a pretty decent number, but obviously not superstar scoring like the other guys.

But he was what the statistics say he was. An efficient 2pt shooter on decent (not spectacular) volume. It’s not a lie or a damn lie to be honest about that.

Adrian Dantley is at 54 percent but despite being only 6’5”, the size of most SGs, and 5 inches shorter than Simmons, he was considered a SF. I know he wasn’t that good overall since he didn’t really do other things super well, but that one is still super impressive. That number of 54 percent is also brought down at the end of his career when he was past his prime.
