Joker points at NBA trophy behind him. Udonis Haslem: “I got three of those things.” Joker: “Not against me.”
top tier banter
I don’t know if it is obvious (because Haslem was really old), but Haslem was technically still on the Heat team that Jokic beat in the finals.
He actually retired after Miami lost in that finals.
That’s partly why Jokic gives him crap about it. They’ve had similar banter like this earlier during the season.
He played the final few minutes or whatever of the last game and he did the slowest 180° turn I’ve ever seen
Herro threw up a lob to Haslem and bro straight up disintegrated while falling down, one of the more hilarious clips I’ve seen, dude looked like he’d sold his legs 5 years ago
I legit thought he hurt himself and considered it elderly abuse by Herro
That was SO funny I couldn’t believe Herro threw it up that high, UD just looked back and shook his head laughing
Forgot about that, that was rough.
https://youtube.com/shorts/CF6Dw4JXY6I?si=tckVZwyhtvilxlcQ
Spo had Haslem guarding Tatum, and he looked like he was bout to break his spine 😭
Hahahaha fuck it’s wild that I can actually visualize this exact play, I laughed so hard not at Haslem, who was old as shit , but at Herro who actually thought that pass was a good idea
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Haslem was a decent rotation guy for like 10 years but his last few years he was a player coach. Dude looked like slo motion out there
It was under the table money for him taking a paycut in the big 3 era. The Mavericks offered him 33m for 5 years and he turned it down to sign 20m for 4 years in Miami.
He also helped coach those teams in practice more or less
And it worked honestly, those teams worked hard. You could feel it when he left.
Haslem kept Butler on the leash
Finally the dog got loose
I remember this same show had a segment with Haslem, Dirk, Blake and Nash on “When did you know it was your time to give it up” and Haslem’s moment was like 7 years before he actually retired lol
Why do I feel like I have a fever dream of him scoring 18 points in a few minutes in a random game at the end of his career
Heq popped up in the last regular season game that year and it was wild
He did scored 24 in his last regular season game, but even then he looked stiff.
Every time Jokic has been interviewed on prime Haslem has talked about how the nuggets whooped their asses in the finals. He has a ton of respect for Jokic.
Haslem had been on the team since they were the Miami Cold.
This started with Joker saying “back when we won a championship - UD you’ll remember that”
It really is
There is no price I would not pay to see this version of Jokic play in the 2000s and early 2010s.
Jokic in the 60s would have been accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake
Jokic in the 60s would have destroyed US-Soviet relations and prolong the Cold War.
Uuhhh… Serbia was part of Yugoslavia, not the USSR
True, but the fact that Yugoslavia was supported by the US it would have hurt the USSR’s feelings probably.
Yugoslavia supported by the US? Nah, the US destroyed Yugoslavia. Ask any Yugoslav.
In the 90s post Soviet collapse yes, but in the 50s up to the 80s the US and Yugoslavia both did not like the USSR at all. Josip Broz Tito accused Stalin of literally trying to assassinate him.
“Stop sending your assassins or I’ll send one to Moscow and I won’t need to send another one” - Tito
“Yugoslavia supported by the US? Nah, the US destroyed Yugoslavia. Ask any Yugoslav.” -
Ask most ‘Yugoslavs’ that aren’t Serbian (which is about 65% of them) who destroyed Yugoslavia and you will get a different much more complicated answer than “the US”.
The US isn’t the reason that Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia wanted to break away from Yugoslavia but Serbians blame the US for some or all of them being able to break away.
Very few people in Yugoslavia would have used that identity of Yugoslav. They kept their original identities. Which kind of gets to the point that the country wasn’t very closely tied and Serbia dominated the bloc. Serbia was what actually destroyed Yugoslavia. You can say the US destroyed FRY which is more complicated but the USSR was gone by that point
they destroyed Serbia, not yugoslavia gtfu with this nationalistic bs
Yugoslavia was part of the non-aligned movement, it was fairly neutral with both sides since Tito wanted to be able to have a flexible foreign policy
Jokic in the 60s would have inspired the next generation of white players to still get absolutely demolished in the NBA.
EDIT: I don’t think it’s controversial to say that, in general, black players have dominated the NBA since the 1960s
Many of the best players in the 70s and 80s were white so i dont get it
Is jokic the Serbian Forrest gump?
Forrest Gump is the American Nikola Jokic
Or might have end the cold war. Didn’t you watch on youtube how rocky balboa ended the cold war?
We would have needed a Miracle on Pine situation.
Not really. He would’ve just been a bigger, better version of Mikan, Jerry West, Cousey. They saw Wilt, who was an alien.
Turns out a bigger better version of Milan is kinda unbelievable though.
His handles alone would be considered unfathomable
The disrespect to Pete Maravich
Any superstar from this era would absolutely cook plumbers league tbh
Any superstar from the Golden Era would destroy these snowflakes today!
Russell and Wilt ran their team’s offenses by passing from the high post lol, jokic’s game is old school
He’d fit right in vs Bird and Magic in the 80s too
All the ATGs would dominate in most eras even if maybe not right fit. These guys are ATGs because they were unstoppable in their primes.
What the fuck is an ATG
Ass to grass
Or in basketball terms, Taint to Paint
All time greats
Anti-tank gun
Alpha tier goober
People just be throwing out random acronyms like this shit is commonly used
It stands for “Agic: The Gathering”
Arjorie Taylor Green
Ancient time gooners
All sTar Game
All Tsar Game, who you got?
I’m building around Ivan the Terrible
Audacious tingle grabber
We need a complete shutdown on pointless new acronyms until we can figure out what the fuck is going on
Ass Thrashing Gangbang
Also most of the ATGs would probably adjust their game to better fit in whatever era you throw them in even if they didn’t need to change a thing to dominate.
hey jokic…jeff ruland is here. we’re all good.
Ruland without injuries is a huge “what if” that makes one wonder what the balance of power might have been
This era with the spacing and the defensive rules is better for his game.
With all the players inside the 3 point line it would kill his playmaking. He’d be a more traditional post player, still a great one but his skillset would be limited.
Bro he would just shoot 3s they wouldn’t know how to gaurd him
Jokic could hit 70% at 3s and dumb ass 70s coaches would’ve benched him for a center even thinking of doing something so ludicrous back then
Well yeah because there wasn’t even a 3 point line until 1979.
Same way they guarded Dirk
Dirk took one 3 a game . Most of his game was high post isos. He was one of two players at the time that could go the whole 4th quarter doing iso every possession and win playoff series. He was pretty much unguardable. It honestly wasn’t good basketball but he was entertaining to watch
There would still be plenty of room for his playmaking to cook. There were some good playmaking big men in that era e.g. Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Arvydas Sabonis. Hell, Bill Walton had enough space to do heavy damage with his passing in the 70s. Jokic is a significantly better scorer and passer than all those guys. He would fucking dominate in the 2000s - 2010s.
Can I ask why you emphasized Bill Walton like that?
No you may not ask. Have a good day.
Lmao
Just part of emphasizing the 70s thing, nothing about Walton per se (who was a great player).
You’re probably the only realistic one here. I’m a huge Jokic fan but realistically he’s in the perfect era for his play style and his weaknesses. His lateral speed and lack of vert at C would 100% matter more playing in the 90s and 00s when a high volume 3p shooter took 3 3s a game and the paint was clogged.
I don’t think people realise how beneficial switching, drop coverage and modern day defensive schemes have been for him. But also, people don’t seem to comprehend how little individual defence matters these days in general.
Joker vs the 07 or 08 Spurs team would’ve been a helluva matchup.
Timmy with his defense would be so interesting
He’s some kind of Manu Ginóbili in Shaq’s body
deadass the best description of Jokic ever
Imagine him and Shaq going at it
I’d love to see him playing in the 2040s and 2050s too
He’s on the All-Time Nuggets team in 2K and it’s very fun.
Jokic quick wits like his no look passes
In a second language always makes it more impressive
Third language, he speaks horse as his second
That’s all hays and neighs.
Second Denver sports legend to speak horse
To be fair, Udonis Haslem averaged 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 points and 0.4 steals in 28 games in the NBA Finals in his career
And managed to convince himself that he shut down Dirk in 06
He held Dirk to a 30% clip when guarding him. Whether you consider that shutting down or not is up you but he did a great job
Depends how many possessions it is, where did you get the stat?
Haslem was his primary defender the entire series. Antoine Walker and James Posey occasionally chipped in. But the whole team exhausted Dirk with late digs and doubles, it wasn’t just Haslem 1-1 for 48 minutes.
But anyone pretending he wasn’t a core part of the ‘06 team just because he didn’t score 25 points a game is an idiot.
Literally every player from that 06 team including Shaq sing praises to UD for slowing down Dirk, but bunch of redditors who were born after that series will try to shit on him because he didn’t score at a high clip.
That series was also apparently rigged because Mavericks fans cry about it to this day, so it doesn’t matter how good anyone on the Heat played even if Wade basically turned into MJ
People truly forget it’s a team sport cause you got a few superstars lol
Jusy wild to me that was 20 years ago. Holy fuck I’m aging like crazy..
W info thanks. I gotta go back and watch that series highlights again. From both teams.
they’re not gonna show you defensive pressure causing dirk to miss shots in the highlights
Bang! Bang! What a shot contest by Udonis Haslem! — my favorite moment of the series
James Posey with those knee high socks
He was cooking with that exact same combo a few years later for the Celtics iirc lol
These kids weren’t alive when defense was a thing of course they talk shit in the comments
You saying on-ball defense counts, but help-side doesn’t?
Video doesn’t lie.
And he did. The stats and eye test show.
One of the times where Games Played is the most impressive stat
Those were big rebounds though……da fuck do i know
To be fair, you’re a scrub
Jokic was too kind not bringing this fact up lol
To be fair, Haslem was a great team guy and strong defender, which is not something that always shows up in the stats.
This is the most engaged I’ve ever seen Joker be in when not on the bb court. I can’t even imagine the state he would’ve been in had the Nuggets not won this game.
I attribute it more to the fact that Amazons nba show outclasses the Shaq/Chuck and friends show by a large margin.
Jokic even said he loves this show, multiple times now.
His first post game interview with the Amazon team he said “thanks, this is much better” at the end.
It’s a great group. Theyre knowledgeable and really like the game
That’s a big thing. Tired of listening to dudes who just whine and complain about the modern nba and “back in my day.” You that old and you haven’t grown up smh
He complemented them pretty much every time he was on air with them.
Ya, he legitimately loves talking to that group.
I am just tired of shaq shitting on players ngl.
Jokic loves talking to former players, just unfortunate that Shaq/Chuck is on some bs because there was a time Jokic loves talking to them.
Former players who aren’t hating on the game. Inside you got Shaq and Charles saying some dumb stuff.
Prime is better compared to the salty old guys who even past their primes in broadcasting
Jokic got that red face like a good and proper alcoholic
What’s going on with the saturation here
His hand looks like it has henna on it
to be fair theyre filming a screen that he’s on.
Filming a screen, thats on the set, that the OP is filming from his phone on a tv in his living room
It sounds like VHS and cassettes back then.
I had a cassette that you could listen to two bands behind the last recording if you pumped up the volume
the ol’ steak and whiskey complexion
Tomato hands joker looks like he is wearing white face
Wemby broke his nose?
During the game Wemby smacked him in the nose so hard it bled
“got henna on it” lmfaooo
Lol Prime doing they thing this year. Players feel more comfortable talking to them too so we get moments like this.
Bezos sucks but they know how to make TV.
They don’t constantly shit on the players which is probably why the players like talking to them.
They didn’t know how to make the wheel of time though, or LOTR.
Jokic definitely has dominated the Heat over the last few years
Outside of 2018 that Finals was easily one of the most one-sided that I remember
The Heat have three wins against the Nuggets since 2018. One in the bubble, one in the Finals, and one this year after Jokic left mid-game with an injury. Everyone like to rag on the lopsided Lakers-Nuggets rivalry, but the Heat have been a much worse punching bag for longer
As a Hornets fan living in Denver this brings me joy
Josh hart also slide tackled butler in round 2 and he was a shell of himself the rest of the playoffs, especially the finals. Nuggets were inevitable that year regardless.
Dude still averaged like 25pts after the Knicks series
Do you recall the games? He was far more limited. He was on a ridiculous run all playoffs so his numbers seem good but was not the same player after getting the ankle injury.
I do recall, he was named ECF MVP. He was gassed in the finals after the 7 game series
So you don’t think injuring his ankle in the 2nd round had any effect on his level of play slipping and the heat having to rely more on the likes of caleb martin, gabe vincent and struss (martin especially in the ECF) for scoring?
They didn’t have herro
For the whole playoff not just against them
And that Miami team without him dicked down the east just to prove how dominant the Nuggets were that postseason
its like when bam said “i still hate u coach” when being interviewed by mike malone lol
I would give him MVP based solely on this interaction, tbh
It’s hard for me because I want to hate on him for denying the Cinderella run but he makes it impossible. Absolute baller and definitely robbed by the media giving MVP to the second best player last season.
Still don’t know how Miami made it that year, they beat some good teams.
Gabe “kobe bryant” Vincent
They had two Kobe’s
Caleb “kobe bryant” Martin
Caleb Martin should have been the ECF MVP.
They also lost their first play-in game and still made it to the finals.
Boston forgot how to play basketball for the first 4 games of the series
Ill never forget the 3% percent chance the heat were given to win the series and the absolute beat down of game 3
I know what you mean. Pacers have won 5 series in the last 2 seasons and been the favourite for literally none of them.
Jimmy Butler
Love the ritter
You said ritter?
LOL. Nice comeback from Jokic.
Sometimes you like to see all timer players talk some real shyt on how better they are than most players.
ID is so good at this job
Idonis Daslem
Irk Dowitzki
Ikola Djokic
He is. Something that caught my attention is that when he disagrees with a take he tends to do it by building the strong parts of the argument that he agrees with and sprinkling in his differences in opinion.
For example, OKC vs Lakers, Blake said that was a game for JJ to just flush and move on, not even watch or show film to the players. UD waited a little and then went on to say about how Blake was right, JJ should be looking to flush this game past the team, you have some games that the ball won’t go in and there’s nothing to gain by showing that to the players, so they shouldn’t be over analysing the game and flush it away, but shouldn’t flush the excessive turnovers they had and look at film to understand what was happening and how to fix it.
To someone vaguely listening, he agreed with Blake. To someone paying attention, he was saying what Shaq would verbalize as “what is that stupid take, they should be embarrassed and humiliated by watching that tape on repeat to fix these turnovers that killed them”.
As a long time Heat fan. This is funny even Dirk got hit by that stray. Hahhaa
LOL that’s cold. Much respect to The Joker.
You can tell Jokic thought about it then said fuck it 🤣
I love Jokic with personality instead of his previous “European who actually hates basketball and only likes horses” persona
He’s never been that person. That’s what media coverage looks like.
I LOVE this man! He’s so real!!
He does have 3 titles, but his role on the teams winning the title was not quite the same as the Joker’s role on his team winning his title.
FAIR
Can’t even hate lmao
That’s such a cold response without even trying 😭. Jokic really talks like he’s bored and still ends careers
This is very wholesome tbh
Got eeem 🤣
UD you played like 8 total minutes in them big dog
Jokic is such a monster lol. These guys are thanking everything above that the didn’t have to deal with him. Sneaky athletic, ethical, bootstrap type guy. Likes horses.
Rare boast from the humble horse man, he almost couldn’t do it.
Jokes aside, it’s nice to watch someone so good at what they do seem unaffected (for the most part) by the wealth and celebrity it has brought them.
Jokic is so casually savage. Three rings and he still talks like he just rolled out of bed. Haslem had no comeback for that one.
lmaooooo
MORE
Damn, Jokic would’ve destroyed the 2012 and 2013 Miami Heat team
i guess if you remove lebron or wade probably.
Against LeBron, D Wade, and Bosh? Jokic would have put up great numbers, as he almost always does, but those Heat lineups would have been tough to beat.
Always feels a little silly to me when people treat championships like an individual accomplishment. Meanwhile, if you don’t count the 60s Celtics, the player with the most rings is career-7-PPG Robert Horry
Why does the Joker look like he has just been in a bar fight? It feels like he should just say “You should have seen the other guy” in his thickest Serbian accent rubbing his jaw showing a bruised knuckle to fit the way he looks.
Also, Haslam was a role player.
#BUS RIDER
Haslem was tight
I think many people forgot that UD is the team captain of the Heat on those championships.
“When’s the last time you texted LeBron and D-Wade thanks?”
He’d have more with that non-defensive style of play.
Dude this guy. Just keeps getting more and more locked in. On the court, off the court. Just entering his prime of life even though he’s like 30. He’s an excellent player and human
Jokic bragging is a rarity
Can’t make out a single word. Was this filmed underwater in a 100 year old tin can?
