There are “PRIME” accolades for a players best 3/5/7 year period.
There are SINGLE SEASON accolades for someone who is currently doing something that is unreal.
Wemby falls into the last category. No, you can’t say he’s better than say Prime Gobert. Because Wemby hasn’t even had a prime yet. But is he more impactful than Gobert was in his DPOY seasons? I’d say yes, but it’s closer than many think. I’d say this season he’s been better than most any player in the history of the league has been for a single season.
He stays healthy, I don’t think there is much of a doubt he’s getting the career and PRIME accolades. But he certainly is having one of the best defensive seasons of all time. I’m not sure how anyone, teenager or adult or toddler could think otherwise.

What you have to understand is that if he’s holding the ball and then he stops holding it and that results in an opponent player holding the ball, that’s 1 turnover.

Sure, but just as much of it is that Gordon gives the team one more good perimeter defender to work with. Jokic is at his best when he’s able to roam around and prevent breakdowns, but once a drive gets past the FT line, he falls apart because he’s slow, can’t change directions, and can’t jump for contests well. With AG providing more stability on the outside, it gives Jokic more time to preempt the offense and keep himself out of danger.

Oh yeah, dude was taking it seriously tonight. He’s still 7 feet tall with long arms so he can put up a half-decent fight in a pinch, he’s just more likely to lose value via fouling than he is to gain it by protecting the rim in a lot of situations.

And he plays better defense.” Well, we just saw Jokic do both of those things against the hottest team and center in the league. I agree. If the discussion was between Wemby and a similarly good offensive player like Jamal Murray or Brunson then Wemby should win. But Jokic and SGA are just way better than Wemby on offense so Wembys defense doesnt quite make up for it (since there is a separate award for defense).

Ironically the fact that Wemby (and to a lesser extent Kornet) can do a decent enough job one on one on him makes it “easier” for Jokic in this match up IMO, like I liked the possession with Keldon Johnson on him WAY more then with the centers because it’s like that that you can actually force turnovers, switch the Murray 2 man game AND force the ball into Braun.
