Nah, this is a bad take. Wemby was phenomenal from beginning to end. Nothing about this game hurt it. Wemby made clutch shots and defended Jokic straight up with success. Jokic never guarded Wemby. This game was more about Fox losing it. I’m not taking anything from Jokic. He had a great game and is deserving of being recognized as the best offensive player on the planet.

Jokic is great and MVP talk is all the rage, but what amazed me most watching the game was:

• Jokic and Murray two man game has reached Nash/Amare and Stockton/Malone level in how difficult it is to guard and how constant and inevitable it is.
• Aaron Gordon health is vital for Denver’s playoff chances. Dude is just a phenomenal defender that a perfect complementary fit for the team.
• Wemby is a freak and the Spurs team is all grit, hustle, athletic and talented as hell, but their lack of shooting will be targeted in the postseason.

He literally has to change his entire shot angle due to Wemby and does it and hits circus shots

If Jokic got foul calls for the same contact that Shai get, he’d shoot 30 foul shots per game. I have seen him bleeding from both arms and neck at the end of games. No calls for the big man. Different criteria.

The goal posts for this man constantly move because he’s so damn good and if he was anybody else this would be considered the consensus #1 MVP but because he’s done this for 5 straight years people just act like it’s normal what he’s doing.

Often the goal posts are moved to his benefit but if we’re being real here the only thing stopping Jokic from winning another MVP this season is team record.

All 4 of these guys (SGA, Jokic, Wemby & Luka) have had incredible seasons that are absolutely comparable to each other and MVP worthy. Only one guy can win it though and it’ll be the guy having that level of season on the team with the best record in the league.

If you flipped Nuggets and OKC record I guarantee you Jokic would be hoisting another MVP.

Brother wemby had 34 pts, 18 rebs, 7 assists, 5 blocks, and only 1 turnover. Jokic is a better offensive player but not THAT much better. Defensively there is a gigantic gap between them. So tell me again what makes you say Wemby’s mvp campaign is done?

It a silly popularity contest, nothing more. If it was a legit “most valuable player” award, based on merit, this would be Jokic’s sixth in a row. Take any player off their team and see how they do. Jokic was leading Shai like 60% + to 35% on MVP tracker, up until the award was announced, it wasn’t even close then and it wouldn’t be this year if the whole damn thing wasn’t bogus. This year it’s a wider spread, 60+ to 28+. I realize it is but a conglomerate metric, and not the game but anyone with eyes and a knowledge of the game knows he’s the best player and what he does nightly for most of a decade now is legendary and unprecedented. He literally transforms his game to the need his team has on a minute by minute basis. No one even mentioned last year amongst being top two or three in points, rebounds, and assists, he was also second in steals, disruptions because of his mind and hands. This guy is one of the very few greatest players to ever play the game in many different ways depending on whatever his team needs to win a game. Also his team emulates his modesty, and play together sacrificing personal stats and numbers to win, elevating the team instead. His teammates love him, and their team as a result; following in the footsteps of the great Tim Duncan, who has six, ahem five Championships to his name and teams credit. For all the accolades and awards he’s won, the public hasn’t given him nearly the recognition he deserves.

Jokic also gives 100 times better post game interviews.

Wemby is more a tall tale than an actual MVP this season.

I’m pretty confident If we ever get back to a respectable competitive sports league again (fingers crossed probably not tho), that the future will not look at the the 2010s and this NBA era’s attitude, management, media, and fan culture kindly.

I hate posts like these, you needed this game to realize that Jokic is an offensive monster who dominates even defensive freaks (Rudy Gobert could testify) ? The season is not just one game.
