Ironically Draymond wouldve fit like a glove on the Lakers pre-Luka injury. They were rolling but outside of Vando don’t really have any great defenders. Draymond has regressed physically but his defensive IQ is still elite and he wouldn’t eat into the big 3’s shot diet.

This sub will never appropriately rate what a first round pick means. Dray being worth a lottery pick and being worth the 26th overall pick are worlds apart in value

And we also have to be honest about the team. If it’s Steph and Giannis, maybe Draymond, and the role players they have and can find for cheap that’s not a championship caliber team. Steph is getting closer to 40 and having Draymond and Giannis as non-shooters is incredibly difficult in the modern era. So the team wouldn’t be good enough, Giannis isn’t going to be happy (probably quickly), and they will have mortgaged the future.

Outside of somehow doing the trade and turning Butler into a Al Star caliber player with magic deal making skills how will they have a team that can compete with OKC or the Spurs in the West? The youth and depth those teams have is crazy and both should expect to get better not worse.

Steph is 38, how much longer does he have?

It is over. Steph played 70+ games the last two seasons and GSW was not a factor in the playoffs. If you add Giannis you have to give up a ton of assets. Plus, if you run out Steph and Giannis, how many games do you believe those two actually play together?

We will see. People assume that Giannis will get this enormous package, and if people are viewing what the Warriors could offer as just okay I would expect to be very disappointed. Giannis is still a great player but he is on the downward side of his prime as a player who does not shoot the ball well, so fitting him in on a championship team not built around his skillset will be harder to do unless he went to one of the teams people assume aren’t interested like OKC or San Antonio. That combined with a growing list of injuries and concerns about how his game will age…I just don’t think the Bucks are going to get some great combination of young players that are valuable assets align with a plethora of high quality picks.

And we have to ask ourselves, is a team that is middling in their talent going to give up everything except maybe their best two players to add Giannis to a team that probably wouldn’t be a true championship contender? In the past under different CBA rules we could see a team risk it and try to work on fit and other players later. It’s a lot harder to do that now.

But there are always surprise teams. So I’m curious to see what happens.
