Jaylen Brown on the jokes about him having no left:
“I think there was some truth to it. I had a major surgery on my left wrist in 2021 and then I reinjured it in 2023… at one point I could barely dribble the ball with my left hand.”
Gotta like the honesty
He just seems real and relatively normal. Him being into numerology is weird, but totally harmless.
Wasn’t this guy into black israelite stuff a few years ago? I’m not sure if he still is or stopped because of PR.
He posted a video of some black israelite group protesting outside of Barclays but then took it down and said he mistook them for Omega Psi Phi.
He is also a practicing Muslim, pretty incompatible with black israelites.
You’d be surprised how much “incompatibility” can be handwaved away when there’s people to hate.
Not really surprising if anyone has been paying attention to politics.
Tons of Muslim people voted for Trump
Pretty sure Kyrie is a Muslim too. These are young men with a lot of free time.
Kyrie is also a practicing Muslim, which didn’t stop him from associating with those at all.
I think there was a bit more honestly, I’ll check when I have time, can’t look at it now.
So is astrology and numerology
Kanye said “George Bush hates black people” then turned into a Nazi
Bold of you to assume logical consistency these days
Have you seen Kanye’s list of people who “betrayed” him? Its neither logical or consistent lmao.
Explaining blackness to Reddit is one of the dumbest and most wasteful things anyone can do. I learned that from experience
Reddit in general but r/nba in particular feels like a sanitarium about this topic. Shocking considering, you know, the demographics of the league.
I guess idk enough about black israelites then, cuz while I didn’t think they were necessarily muslim, I didn’t think they were incompatible with muslims either.
Care to offer a brief explainer to the uninformed about why they’re incompatible? I’m only curious and definitely don’t wanna start a whole argument about this lol
It’s incompatible with any recognizable form of Islam, but then there’s Nation of Islam types who aren’t really considered Muslims by most but call themselves Muslims.
maybe I was conflating black israelites with nation of islam and that’s where I got confused.
Evangelism is arguably incompatible with Jesus and here we are
yea this some celtics fan cope, just look at Kyrie
It was legitimately a stupid misunderstanding.
When Kyrie got suspended he was backing Kyrie because he was a union VP and Kyrie was getting punished outside of anything agreed to in the CBA.
Black Israelites decided to do a march in support of Kyrie. Jaylen thought it was a black fraternity, and not the black Israelites, and reposted a video of the march. People called him out on it and he explained the mistake right away and said he never meant to support the black Israelites. And he posted a photo of the frat and their colors legitimately looked very similar to what the Israelites were wearing.
Dude says plenty of shit which is not harmless
Like what?
Such as?
go head and tell us?
Dude is an antivaxxer. And he supports Black Hebrew Israelites.
crazy they don’t got google in some places still. 3 people asking you to name shit we already knew.
The guy answered the question and you still wanted to say something dumb so: If you’re gonna say something like it’s fact, the burden of proof is on you.
“Jaylen brown has said harmful stuff”
“Like what?”
“Lol just google it you casual”
Peak reddit. Everyone else is dumb just Google it for proof. Sounds like the jackass I met who tried to tell me that Bath and Body works products have chemicals to make kids gay. He followed it up with do your research.
This isn’t the same as the “do you own research” crowd. These are things that were discussed on the front pages of r/NBA and considered common knowledge among regulars here. It’s like Karl Malone being a pedophile. I don’t expect the general public to know that but I’d expect any regular here to know it.
Now assuming everyone here is a regular is off base and elitist (if you can consider this elite?). But it’s not the same as the “do you own research” idiots.
Ah yes, the front page of a subreddit with millions of subscribers that is constantly getting botted and astroturfed. A very good source for “common knowledge.”
Whipping out ‘burden of proof’ in an internet argument is also peak redditor lol but i had a similar conversation this reminded me of too
definitely deleting these comments tomorrow, my bad guys
i always think burden of proof is the funniest argument in an internet argument
like, i don’t really care if you actually get smarter from our conversation, i’m just letting you know you’re wrong and the information is readily available if you’re interested in finding it
So fake news is ok. Got it
These people literally won’t engage in conversation even when you ask them to provide reasoning behind their beliefs.
Straight up said “I’m not interested in having a discussion” when you ask them about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/pvsXt5tNMc
I feel like before you address anything else, you should address that they are right and you were wrong.
High chance that if someone is asking for proof of shit JB said, they’re likely asking in bad faith to downplay anything he has said/done
nah i just literally wanted to know bc people make shit up or mischaracterize things all the time on the internet, especially reddit.
Yeah your other replies in this thread really drive that point home
What about…
Nah if you are the one trying to make a point with zero proof it’s absolutely fair to question it. Regardless of the second person’s motive it is absolutely an appropriate ask. Even more so when you are anonymous and tons of other anonymous readers should also get facts or just be similarly misled
It’s insane that people disagree with this opinion. Without sources, everything said here is just being said by a username that also may or may not be a real person.
“Oh just be a regular here starting from 10 years ago” - some people in this thread.
And yet, when 10 other people told them what, they continued to ignore every single of those posts but made 10 other posts on reiterating what you just said to the 10 that didn’t.
Obviously they are saying it in bad faith and they already know. If you weren’t also a bad faith actor, you would also recognise that now.
Incredible reply. Not informative at all, but funny.
Conspiracies are more harmful than you think.
dude what lol? i’m agreeing with you…just saying the people replying to you can easily find what you’re talking about on google
Oh shit, I read your comment wrong. My bad.
I can agree with that.
What conspiracy lmao it’s fuckin jaylen brown
Educate yourself.
On what, the jaylen brown conspiracy?
Neither of these are confirmed. Confidently spreading misinformation on like this on the internet.
He once retweeted black Israelites, which he said he mistook for a black fraternity, apologized and took it down. He’s also never said anything explicitly antivax
He retweeted shit about antivaxxing. And if he mistook BHI for a fraternity, he is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Which is fine, but he should stop having such strong and controversial opinions. Leave that to people who actually know shit.
The “he supports black hebrew israelites” narrative is such bs but you were just fishing for something to say besides the antivax part which was valid. Dude literally retweets one thing then immediately deletes it, apologizes, and explains that he thought it was a different group of people. There are plenty of valid things to criticize him on without scraping the bottom of the barrel to call one mistaken tweet from 4 years ago as him being a diehard supporter of hate groups.
All Hebrew Israelites aren’t the same. he’s not anti vax just against certain ones lmao. Gross mischaracterization
So it’s fine to act like he knows better what’s best for children than scientists and doctors?
You dont understand. He plays CHESS
He’s actually TOO SMART to play basketball.
😂is that what i said? is a man allowed to have reservations about certain vaccines as opposed to ones that have been tried and true for decades???
is every christian the same? so neither are hebrew israelites. go outside yall.
He is allowed to have a dumb opinion. But he went online and spread his misinformation to millions of followers.
You clearly have no idea what BHI is.
no i know what they are. kendrick lamar is an israelite, is he and jaylen brown the same as the guys berating people in the streets? is every christian the same as KKK because they follow the same religion? GO OUTSIDE
“Not anti vax just against certain ones.” This would make him anti-vax.
Relatively minor compared to some things players say but I think it’s likely he’s been captured by the black Israelites, something that’s probably more common than we think in the league
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/boston/news/jaylen-brown-clarifies-tweet-extremist-group-support-kyrie-irving/
A lot of players have come out over the years as supportive of what Desean Jackson and later Kyrie said. And for a group so activism focused, very few have spoken out against it
So the harmful things he says are fine because other people say even more damaging shit? Or because others do it too? How about we hold every person accountable for what they say?
I agree, it’s pretty crazy thing we’re ignoring, especially for a community that considers racial issue inseparable from the sport
KD outright supported DJax after he posted that Hitler was right lol. This runs deep, and it’s not talked about often
Might get flamed for this, but it’s why I haven’t been able to take the league’s activism seriously, when they can’t even call out the extreme bigotry amongst their own members
I wonder if people keep this same energy for Steph Curry saying the moon landings were fake.
Moon landings dont involve radically hating people.
just because its not racism doesn’t mean you aren’t radically hating people. The entire argument is that NASA and american scientists and educated people rallied together to brainwash you and spit a false narrative for their own gain.
You think those people aren’t hated by those conspiracy theorists? lol you don’t remember when Buzz Aldrin got ‘lured into a fight’ by one of these guys?
Radical hatred is the backbone of your perception of the moon landings conspiracy? Surely it’s deceit and selfishness but that’s much more on the back of apathy.
This is a dumb comparison and the kind mfs in the back of lecture halls exhaust rooms with.
That fella blocked me but they seem to just be really interested in Jaylen Brown conspiracies.
Maybe because the thread is about Jaylen Brown? They also never decried 9⁄11, why are they dodging this??
Didn’t block you crybaby. We are talking about Jaylen Brown right now. You guys keep bringing up other players. Lazy whataboutism.
You responded to one of my comments saying “educate yourself” and then immediately afterwards all your comments said it was deleted by the user. It’s perfectly reasonable to think you blocked me.
You just seem very short tempered about this whole situation. I would’ve liked to understand your opinion on Jaylen Brown and his conspiracies, which is why I asked, but you simply said I should educate myself instead of engaging in conversation. Lazy educator.
I wish Steph Curry was tarred and feathered for saying that.
Dude shut the fuck up 😂😂
So dumb to live life like a pussy
Spreading misinformation is living life to the fullest? Did I get that right?
The article says that he doesn’t support the group but was happy to see people supporting Kyrie’s return.
From the article
“Yeah, I didn’t have my reading glasses on. I didn’t know who that group was,” Brown said. “My instinct when I first saw that video is I come from a community torn every day by systemic representations and images of violence in our community. So when I saw that video, it struck a chord, just for different reasons. I saw a large group of people from our community showing support for [Irving] and his return. So me being proud of that support and being proud of our community for doing that does not mean I endorse or celebrate some of the things that were being done or being said in my community.”
The group he was supporting was protesting Kyrie’s suspension for posting openly antisemitic material and the people in the video are distinctly black Israelites from the way they dress.
Is he saying he’s randomly quote tweeting videos of protesters at Barclays without any idea of what they’re protesting lol? And he was completely unaware of the Kyrie situation?
In the interview he explicitly states that he doesn’t support the group after learning about who they were. He didn’t know who they were, he just saw people supporting Kyrie’s return and he liked that.
If you’re a busy person, you’re not exactly going to know every nuance of what’s going on on the internet. So, I don’t feel like it’s difficult to believe that the process was something like: JB goes on twitter -> JB sees video of people supporting Kyries return -> JB thinks that’s cool -> JB tweets in support of people supporting Kyries return. Maybe I’m wrong and he did know, but he said he didn’t and he hasn’t shown support for that group afterwards so I think it’s fair to take his word on it.
Kyrie’s suspension was for posting explicitly antisemitic material. It’s not a small detail, it’s very publicly the reason
Even the concept of blindly quote tweeting videos of random protests is silly, but nobody should be buying he didn’t know why Kyrie was suspended. And even if he didn’t know, going out of your way to blindly publicly support without quickly googling first is a dangerous level of ignorance
I’m not saying he didn’t know why Kyrie was suspended.
I’m interpreting his words here as “I was happy to see the community supporting kyries return, but I didnt know who exactly that group was, and I dont support their views”. He sees Kyrie as a former teammate/friend, but also as views him from the eyes of someone who’s supposed to help lead the player’s union. I’m not really reading much further into it than that.
But also, it’s 4 years ago. If I saw this 4 years ago, with the context of the time and everything, maybe I’d have a different view on it.
Nah that shit is not harmless. If you don’t value truth it’s how you start believing a lot of other insane shit that is not harmless - which Brown does. “Truth is a virtue” is a cliche but it’s for a reason.
I mean that’s what this whole thread is. Jaylen explicitly said he did not support the black Israelites after realizing he mistook them for a black fraternity and reposted, and has never said anything explicitly antivax
Idk why everyone thinks he’s antivax. I can link a post where he literally was saying he was glad the league and his friends and family were vaxxed lol
Half the country believes in nonsense propaganda and think it’s ok for government death squads to murder people on camera
Nah I feel like he’s kind of Kyrie coded
Edit: I don’t really have evidence but just feel this way
Bro implied that Naismith didn’t invent basketball and really it was indigenous people who also happen to be black aka tinfoil Black Hebrew Israelite shit lol. He’s definitely like Kyrie except wasn’t so overt about it.
It feels like he hung out with Kyrie a lot but wasn’t paying attention the whole time, so he’s only like 80% as crazy.
You guys are trying real hard to paint him as something he’s not.
He wore shoes painted by someone else showcasing the ancient Mesoamerican game that many have compared to basketball. Rubber ball goes into the hoop. Big whoop. I’m sorry that’s so offensive to some.
And he wasn’t the only person who off first reaction made the mistake of thinking the Israelites were a black frat. Not everyone is familiar with who they are. But whatever, keep trying to make him into Kyrie 2.0. It won’t change anything.
I remember someone saying that he’s Kyrie Irving but smart lmao
I remember hero ball doing a jab at that where he was speaking philosophy before getting interrupted in the s2 finale.
Idk man Brown is like a shade above Kyrie with this shit
Yall giving him too much grace imho
He’s not some insane deviant but he is extremely corny. The faux academic thing is about as cringe as it gets. Plus, the whole anti-vax really highlights that he’s just a moron that thinks he’s smarter than he is.
And the always smelling bad thing
Should have been honest from the start, this is perfectly reasonable
I’d love to hear Luka be honest about why he doesn’t give effort on defense.
injured wrists, back, and head.
Funny how the media covered it up… They just want to oppress the left.
It was the right thing to do
IF IT AINT RIGHT IT AINT RIGHT
RIGHT POWER! RIGHT POWER!
/r/TheLeftCantDribble
If it’s not right it’s left.
The second joke definitely trumps the first
both your jokes are terrible
He’s gonna be all right
Corny as fuck… but I respect it.
Between the hair stuff and left handed admissions I like JB more and more because of his honesty
yeah i feel like hes gotten some shit around here for “talking too much” this year, but ive really grown into a big JB fan this year with how personable hes come across in all his stream clips etc… Besides the fact that hes an absolute baller
Until he spouts out weird conspiracy shit lol but seems like a decent dude
No one show him the recent NASA news 🌕
Here is Jaylen Brown touring NASA facilities before giving a presentation about student athlete engagement with STEM: https://science.nasa.gov/image-detail/brown/
He once tweeted about how much he loves Bill Nye, and then was so excited to actually get to meet him. They have since become so close that Jaylen gave the dedication speechat Bill’s Hollywood star ceremony last year.
All of which to say, I think JB is probably stoked about the recent NASA news.
And here is Jaylen Brown’s snake oil magnetic “wellness” necklace:
https://www.hapbee.com/pages/jaylen-brown-ambassador?srsltid=AfmBOoqBf5NswH5NtgytldsGEqQ2lzdAKWK86H_xhhUaQoP-kC_F51Kc
He is an investor and part of the company. Don’t fall for his fake “pro-science” persona.
Who’s to say which one is his real beliefs and which one is an act?
That shit looks pretty flat to me. Every direction I tilt my phone it disappears.
You mean NASAnta Claus? No thanks
What conspiracy stuff?
all JB’s prefer the left.
I mean the hair thing is like half honest cuz he kept claiming he was gonna go bald fully and just never did 😭
I mean honestly what else could he have done about the hair thing lol. Deny it and double down? Wonder if he still uses it tho lol
He’s all right
There’s no other way to take that
That’s a great attitude. If I was getting this news I don’t think I’d take it this well.
That’s a great attitude. I got to tell you, if I was getting this news, I don’t know that I’d take it this well.
What do you mean?
https://youtu.be/Vevyf7blQ-4?si=d_L7e0DhUYrQ3f3g
He’s a monsterrrrr!! Ahhhh!!
GET HIM OUT OF HERE
Yes, that’s more the way I take the news
I hate this doctor!
Soon-to-be 1st Team All NBA Jaylen 😭😭so proud of his journey
Sounds like he has nothing left to prove.
He was underestimated all-right
You got to hand it to him.
Olympics with a left hand dunk winner
He and JT are playing for statues outside TD Garden at this point.
Lol I thought this was about him not having any hair left. He should just shave it off to prove he can rock the bald look.
Pun intended?
it was the only intent
The “can’t go left” jokes were outdated in 2024 honestly
Yup this year especially he’s greatly improved with it
Now do the Le_______ jokes.
He still got iffy handles for a one rung below superstar
and he still averaging 30 🤷♂️
I don’t see how he’s one rung below superstar anymore at this point
Even with no left.. JB was more than alright 🥁
He was and I feel bad for calling it out now..
That makes lots of sense. That’s why he was so pissed off with Kyle Lowry when Kyle purposely hit him on his injury
Yeah Kyle Lowry is a little rat fuck for that lol
I don’t get how he always gets overlooked for dirtiest player. He does so many things with the intention of injuring the opposing player
This is the part where we feel ashamed of ourselves, right? /s
On a serious note though, we never have the full story of what’s behind the scenes of these hyper-documented and scrutinized athletes.
It’s the same with JT. He was clearly hurt a bunch of times and just never mentioned it or used it as an excuse.
2022 finals his body was destroyed and now I have to read about how he was locked up by Wiggins for the rest of my life
You guys would have won even if he was healthy, but Luka was so banged up going into the 2024 finals that he was wrapped up like a mummy pregame. And he got eviscerated for that series.
Tbh it’s more that he hasn’t disproven a lot of the observations since then, he struggles defensively and seems to get absolutely worked over every time he’s matched up against JB. Granted JB is just that good and Luka is playing the point forward position with reduced mobility compared to when he first came into the league.
Yeah, outside of the Kyrie year, the Celtics have never actually finished worse than an ECF with Tatum/Brown leading the team.
That first major wrist injury Brown is talking about is when Boston lost to Brooklyn in the 1st round. It was a season ending surgery right before the playoffs.
And then obviously Tatum last year tearing his Achilles in the loss to NY.
Those are the only 3 times Boston has missed the ECF in their 9-10 year career.
Even then, they were playing hurt during a lot of those deep ECF/Finals runs. Brown played the second half of last season + playoffs with a torn MCL, it didn’t get mentioned until the offseason. In 2022, Tatum fractured his left wrist a couple of months before playoffs and then reaggravated it against Milwaukee in the playoffs.
And they often don’t have time to recover. The Achilles injury is the first time Tatum has had time off in a while. Last we heard about his wrist was that he had opted out of surgery (partially due to risk and partially due to long recovery times). The deep playoffs already take a toll and then you factor in Olympics, FIBA, shortened covid offseasons, etc.
And despite all of that, they’re unusual in how they both consistently show year-on-year improvements to their game.
But they’re corny and lack aura so…
Melo claimed when he absolutely torched Heat with 50 points on all jumpshot that all the difference was that he finally felt healthy. All reporter knew was that in the previous month he was shooting horribly from the 3pt line. Some Warriors fans also screenshot so many occasions where it looked like Curry got some injection in his leg. And part of why Dirk now in so much pain was he kept playing through minor injuries no matter what, even after his superstar career long gone.
So yeah, we’ll never know the full story of these players.
This is basically how the Warriors won the finals in 2022, they had a bunch of dudes who could force turnovers and it seemed like nobody on the Celtics could counter it
Not just that, but our bench collapsed.
Boston that year was unusual because they were the only playoff team without a proper 3rd option. The Celtics just relied on Tatum and Brown being one of the highest scoring duos in the league.
Every other team had some dedicated 15-20ppg guy. Boston was getting by via comittee. They were relying on 8-10ppg guys taking turns in having big nights. Smart was unreal in the Brooklyn series. Grant Williams had 27 in G7 against Milwaukee. Horford stepped up against Miami. White, who hadn’t broken out yet (and was really struggling under Ime Udoka), had a big G1 against Golden State.
That fell apart in the second half of the finals.
Our entire bench combined for 1 made 3P shot over the final 2 games, and that single make came from Luke Kornet.
It meant Golden State could lazer in on Tatum and Brown, because they just weren’t afraid of anyone else on that team.
That’s why Boston went and spent big on Brogdon. The team needed some scoring depth.
This is made up nonsense. Smart averaged 15.4ppg those playoffs - https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2022.html
Smart averaged 15.4ppg those playoffs - https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2022.html
Warriors scoring was more concentrated in their top 4 guys, but the idea that the Celtics didn’t have a 3rd 15-20ppg guy is just plain wrong.
Man I miss 2022 GP2. One of the best defenders i’ve ever seen.
I know it probably goes without saying but Steph was also incredible when it mattered most in that series. Really put his legacy over the top for me, he had way less help than in previous championships.
Brown and Tatum legit looked scared and rattled when they saw Wiggins in front of them defending lol. So many turnovers from just losing their handle
Nah, they were just turnover prone against tough defenses. They lost in 2020 against Heat for same reason.
Nah, we lost against the Heat because it was Theis and Kanter vs. Bam Adebayo
No, it was largely turnovers. Celtics shot a higher FG%, FT%, and 3% and out rebounded the Heat by over 4 a game.
Turnovers it was 85 for Celtics and 70 for Heat.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2020-nba-eastern-conference-finals-heat-vs-celtics.html
Bam was only the leading scorer for the Heat in 2 games. Dragic lead them in 3. And Herro went off for 37 to lead in another.
Dragic lead them in 3. And Herro went off for 37 to lead in another.
Yeah, because Bam was setting killer screens while our bigs looked like they had never seen a pick and roll before.
Edit: we had 20 more turnovers in 22 and won 🤷
Yes, like I said the Jays were turnover prone against more than just the Warriors. The Heat did it to us in 2020, 2022, and 2023. We just happened to survive it in 2022.
Tatum turnovers per game:
2023 Hawks - 2.5
2023 Sixers - 2.1
2023 Heat - 3.7
Of Tatum’s 6 highest total turnover series 1 is 2022 Heat, 2 is 2023 Heat, and 6 is 2020 Heat.
He’s played in 22 series. For 1, 2, and 6 to all be the Butler Heat is not some coincidence.
Broke my left wrist in hs. It was severely compromised for good few years at least.
Man the Warriors really went after him in the Finals, they let him go left and shut down everything else. Good to see JB healthy and able to up his game.
Yes, he’s lost his left hand, so he’s going to be… all right
White Mamba looking like 1995 personified
I don’t blame JB at all, Shii Jordon couldn’t go left and he did just fine in the league. Both of these dudes are champions anyway
I thought OP did a typo there and meant to say he had “no hair” left.
I mean the injuries were obviously a factor I’m surprised people didn’t know that?
Why tf is it 2x speed
celtics are blessed.
It’s more of a scouting report thing than a criticism. Teams know forcing him left lead to him passing, taking tougher shots, or turnovers more often than when he can go right. Good to hear, as a fan, some background on his challenges. Also, respect that he can honestly accept that feedback and works to improve. It’s clearly obvious he has.
he got everything left to prove…
I’m a JB fan now for the honesty
his “I could barely dribble with my left hand” is probably 100x better than most peoples peak dribbling with their dominant hand
JB is so smart he’s talking to one of America’s boldest, stupidest, and most obnoxious people.
[deleted]
You think every injury effects movement, flexibility, etc. the same? Your logic is not sound.
What I am saying is that even when comparing the same injuries people have differing results in recovery.
And you are comparing a broken wrist, which might involve no soft tissue damage to Jaylen who tore multiple ligaments and then pretending they are the same thing.
Pretty much all the arguments you are making are extremely flawed.
Jaylen has been a huge development story as a whole. He didn’t have a great handle in general his rookie year.
I don’t know why you think he’s making something up that’s no valid. The dude knows what his own wrist was like.
What is up with corny bozos on Reddit saying “my sweet summer child”. Give it up your argument was a dumb one. Move on.
Go say that corny shit hanging out with your buddies. They’ll laugh at your lame ass.
