I feel like the point of the rule is so fans can see their favourite players more often and minutes does not accomplish that. I feel like seeing a star play for 29 minutes or 35 minutes really doesn’t matter at all. But getting to see them at all vs not is huge

Someone who’s team played in a bunch of close games or games that went to OT can sit out an extra 3-8 games if it was minutes based. And if teams try to game it, we might see players in during blowouts but just standing around not contributing which isn’t fun for anyone. Whereas if you want to try and game the current rule, it just means you play another game for 20 minutes which is a huge benefit to the fans

Sucks but I’m glad the rule is in place. I wouldnt mind lowering it a little bit more (maybe to 62 or 60 games) but I’m tired of stars playing half the season and expecting to get awarded. Load management + tanking + the nba making games as inaccessible as ever is killing basketball for fans who deserve better.

Why? It forces players to play. Jokic has played every game since coming back so he can stay eligible. Isn’t that awesome? He doesn’t have to play, but he wants to for the awards. If this rule wasn’t in place he misses out on games.

How can anyone justify someone playing significantly less games being more deserving of an award also, that to me makes no sense. Ants 59 game season or James Hardens 70+ game season? I’ve seen people mention Giannis like he hasn’t played 36 games this year

I disagree because then in blowouts you are more likely gonna have guys like Jokic, Wemby, SGA stay in extra minutes just to make sure they tick off the requirement asap. Hurts bench’s players and role players, which sounds stupid but I don’t need SGA in the game up 30 with 6 minutes left in the 4th.
