The media and the voters are now hyper focused on an MVP candidate’s defense all because Wemby said defense is 50% of the game when in reality not all MVPs have been elite defenders.

MVP is Most Valuable Player. That doesn’t mean Most Valuable offensive and defensive player, but it certainly can help one’s case.

This isn’t totally accurate though, and i’d venture to say you know that but are misconstruing it to push your narrative. While, yes, Victor has had some offensive down points in the year. His defense has been consistently historic all year long.

Whereas with Luka. He starts popping off in the last month of the season and that means we’re supposed to ignore his entire seasonal output? The MULTIPLE weeks of examples of him just not playing defense at all and instead opting to spend the possession complaining to the refs?

You’re gonna need a better argument if you want to convince people that Luka deserves it.

Luka killed his bid for MVP when he was more interested in arguing with the refs than defending. It showed low effort. It showed lack of commitment. He’s better now but the damage is done when he’s against Shay and Wemby who only show focus and commitment all season.

Honestly I don’t pay attention to player of the month and player of the week type of stuff, and I know Luka has actually had some good defensive games but I really have a hard time believing he has been good enough to justify a nomination. But hey, as a Lakers fan…cool.
