Smart was still a better 1 on 1 defender. White for as great of a defender as he is really isn’t Boston best POA defender and can sometimes actually play pretty poorly when matchuped against some of the elite scorers. He absolutely makes up for it for being one of the best offball defensive guards ever, but Smart and White were completely different types of defenders.

Smart was the guy if you just wanted to elimate 1 guy (and he could guard everyone like Embiid and Porzingis) while also getting those big time hustle plays. White is instead one of the smartest defenders that is always in the right place.
