Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has 43 games with 30+ points this season. The rest of the Thunder roster combined has 3.
Most 30+ point games by an OKC player this season
source
Wow, actually never thought about that, but is this correct? Did not J-Will score 30 against Detroit? Edit; Saw your source link, you just have the wrong spelling of J-Will
But wow, that is insane And the more insane thing is IHart on that list. he has scored like 8 points on his last four games, and still being very good:)
I think JWill had 29 vs Detroit iirc
edit: sorry had 30 vs Detroit 29 vs Denver. Wrong D team
Did he edit the post or do you have him mixed up with jdub? Thats the correct spelling of his name.
He edited it
Didn’t realize it was that big of a difference
I know he’s been mostly injured, but J Dub not being the same this year concerns me a ton ngl.
He is gonna get a few ones before the season is over while ramping up, The majority of his games this season was while the hand was still bothering him before the hamstring
Dr. Shin operated on both John Mateer and JDub. Both had longer recovery times than expected. Maybe we should have hired Dr. Hand smh
There was a period around early October where 90% entire state of Oklahomans deified that man.
Probably before the second surgery:)
Then the red river shootout happened
gonna get a few ones before the season
Only 6 games left. Minutes restriction and might sit the B2B @ the Clippers.
6 games left, lets say he play in 4 of them, pretty reasonable chances for at least one where he kicks of, and Utah monday, should be pretty big chance.
I get what you’re saying, but the guy has probably spent the majority of his games this season playing into shape. It’s super difficult for a player to miss all/most of the season and produce at their normal level when they return. Tatum is essentially doing just that, but I’d consider him an outlier. Now if J-dub sucks next year then the Thunder might be in a bit of trouble given his contract.
He’s looked pretty good his last several games. Was like 11⁄12 on the game he reinjured his hamstring, and he’s looked solid here recently (albeit on a minutes restriction).
He was really good against the Knicks earlier this week
He hasn’t played at all but is putting up fairly comparable numbers, they have dipped a little but that’s expected with rust. He looked excellent physically against NY, made their entire roster look like sloths on that one fast break. If he can stay healthy and get some games under his belt he should be fine. Hell, he scored 40 in the finals on a broken shooting hand.
He had 28 in the Suns game where he aggravated his injury and this was only in the 3rd quarter. Was super efficient as well going 11⁄12 I think, before the injury.
He was 12⁄12 I think, his only miss was on the fast break where he re-aggravated the injury :(
nobody gives shai enough credit for carrying the offense on his back man
2nd most injured team per game played this year, 1st in the west.
Wait who is first? I thought it was the grizzlies at 1. I feel like their entire teams pretty much been in the hospital for most of the season
It was Pacers at one point. Not sure currently though.
The fact that he and Chet take up a similar amount of cap space is insane
‘can you believe they call both of us special grade curses? yeah, you and me both’ type shit
The MVP candidate?
yes, the one that people frequently discredit and say that his team would still be elite without him
Because they would. And that’s not a knock on Shai, it’s so exhausting that y’all think saying his teammates are good means that makes him worse. It’s okay that he has good teammates!
I think it’s more about replacement
How many premium players in the league would do really well if you swapped out SGA for them?
That is why it is important when people say that about OKC, bc it’s true
Surprised Chet had a 30 point game.
He’s had some good offensive games sprinkled in throughout the season.
His best offensive performance imo was the first Knicks game where he hit six 3pt shots in the first half. Finished that game with 28⁄8
Or that first Houston game in the opener, he was so lights out in the first half
He’s had a few games this season where he has had 17-20 at half and then ends the game with 22-24.
Some of it is him needing to be more aggressive. Some of it is that the game is a blow out so he sits for most of the second half.
But there have also been games where he is frozen out for a whole quarter for no discernible reason after being hot in the first half. Like literally zero passes his way.
For instance, that game earlier this year when he was 100% from the field, he was 9-9 for 23 points in 24 mins while Shai was 9-19 for 28 points in 28 mins. I feel like Chet probably could have gotten a few more shots up in that game and flirted with matching his career high.
He’s been so fucking consistent, its outrageous.
This sounds impressive, but since you’re framing this as an MVP topic I assume, can we compare the other candidates? Have they all done similar or is this an outlier?
All of this info is from basketball reference.
Wemby has had 16 games with 30+ points. His teammates have had 9.
Jokic has had 23 games with 30+ points. His teammates have had 29.
Luka has had 44 games with 30+ points. His teammates have had 17.
did most of the Lakers 17 other games come from Reaves when Luka was injured?
not pulling for anybody in the MVP race, more just interested how many games they’ve had somebody scoring 30+ in
Bring has 5, ar is the rest. Surprised rui or someone doesn’t randomly have a 30 piece.
This is a crazy outlier. Jokic has Murray who consistently scores over 30. Reaves and Bron don’t go off like that when Luka is playing, but Reaves is averaging over 20 PPG while Bron is still averaging close to 20. Wemby doesn’t score that much, mostly due to him playing less than 30 MPG. If you adjust his numbers to the minutes of the other MVP candidates he’s right there. But the Spurs don’t really have a true secondary scorer, games often end with like 5-6 players in double figures. Castle and Fox have had some scoring nights, Champagnie went on a random killing spree from 3 one game.
SGA is BY FAR the most important scorer on OKC. But you gotta take into account that JDub was injured for most of the season. Chet isn’t really a scorer, he gets around 20 and that’s it. When SGA plays, he’s the 1st option and as he’s so efficient they don’t need a true 2nd guy during the regular season. But come playoff time, the “others” need to step up. They can’t survive against elite defenses like the Spurs with only SGA scoring.
But they are still 8-4 without him, including all their injuries
he mvp
J-Dub and Ajay have both been out for long stretches. I would not expect anyone else to get 30, especially the way we spread out the bench minutes.
You’re overlooking Viet Curry
Meanwhile last year we were getting Aaron Wiggins 40 bombs
Similar story with MN. Ant - 31, rest of team - 2
When tf did Chet or ihart do that lmao
You’d probably remember if you watched your team play
Oh ok
Ball dominant guard on league high usage scores all the points, more at 11
Ball dominant guard with the 2nd most efficient scoring rate in the history of guards averaging 30+ ppg. SGA is at 66.6 true shooting, Michael Jordan only ever got to 61.4 percent.
FTA Per Game
1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. 9.4
Chet Holmgren 4.1
Jalen Williams 3.9
Ajay Mitchell 3.0
Isaiah Hartenstein 2.4
Isaiah Joe 1.8
Jaylin Williams 1.5
Jared McCain 1.3
Aaron Wiggins 1.2
Alex Caruso 1.0
FGA Per Game
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 19.6
Jalen Williams 13.8
Chet Holmgren 11.4
Ajay Mitchell 10.5
Jared McCain 8.5
Aaron Wiggins 8.5
7 . Luguentz Dort 7.7
Isaiah Joe 7.6
Cason Wallace 7.6
Isaiah Hartenstein 6.5
But if his other teammates had the same FGA per game and FTA per game, their numbers would be far better. So this is not a fair comparison.
Im confused, are you arguing that our other guys should get the same amount of shots and free throws as Shai?
No, but If a player takes more shots, it’s normal that they’ll score more points. If we take these two categories into account, do you really think if you put SGA’s teammates in his place, only three of them would score 30+ points just once?
Of course I dont think that, im still just not really sure what your point is? “If they shoot more, they would score more” applies to quite literally every player in history lol.
This is nothing but a statistic on Thunder supportive scoring. I dont think the point is to compare them to Shai, it’s probably to compare them to other supporting casts
I think he’s just trying to say the scoring is very balanced after SGA which makes it harder for a guy to go off for a big game.
Like, for comparison, everyone on the Lakers with a 30 point game this season averages more FGA/game than Jalen Williams (2nd on the Thunder), but no one else on the Lakers averages as many FGA/game as Ajay Mitchell (4th on the Thunder). Rui Hachimura (4th on the Lakers) could realistically end the season behind Aaron Wiggins (6th on the Thunder)
If you adjust Patrick Mahomes stats to league average he is a league average quarterback
Good, fuck the Chiefs too
Yeah that happens when one guy runs the offense…
I mean… if it works, it works.
I’m not saying its a bad thing. I’m just saying its an obvious consequence of 1 person lead offense.
Jokic probably has a similar stats.
Spurs on the other hand have like 4 balls handler on offense, so I’d suspect it would look quite different for Wemby.
I suspect Lakers would be similar too if it weren’t for Austin Reaves stretch when Luka was off.
Jokic and Jamal have the same amount of 30 point games this season (23)
Lakers have 17 games combined between Austin og Lebron
Denver, not even close, Jamal has teh same amounth as Jokic at 23, and they have 6 more between PWat - THJ - AG
Spurs has 9 games split between 5 players.
Oh my god.
If a guy runs the offense and it leads to wins, that’s impressive.
Look at Jordan during the 90s.
Yeah, especially if that guy is a perimeter player. SGA’s buckets come from difficult shots. He gets fouled a lot and he definitely has found a way to game the system, but the shots he makes are still insanely difficult. His midrange game is basically like Jordan’s and Kobe’s - but more efficient. People hate him for the FTs, but he’s an elite scorer without them.
That’s cool but Jaylen Brown is the MVP this year
Dont know why this obvious bait is being downvoted
Give him SGA’s whistle and he’d have more 30 point games
If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike
Verstappen said it better
Pretty easy to score 30 if your teammates let you lol. Luka has 44 despite playing with players more inclined to score. Just shows you who the real MVP is. You think if SGA and Luka were on the same team it’s not gonna be Luka with the ball lmfao. 🤪
It isn’t easy to score 30 points 43 times in a season.
Luka aka “If-Man”
34 PPG isn’t an if. SGA scoring 60 is an if. (If they ever go to 3OT vs the pacers)
What is an if is if Luka will ever win a championship lmao
Maybe if he got to play the pacers last year, we would! Not everyone gets that lucky to play a team like that with injuries like that!
2025 Pacers spank the 2024 Mavs. Their run and gun style would have Luka gassed at half time
Thanks dude, I needed a laugh today :)
you doing tricks on it
Coulda played the pacers if they didn’t get bounced in round one
2023… what happened to OKC in 2023. Oh wait. Luka.
hang that banner!
Wow must’ve won the championship!
The funny part is that in 2023, OKC and Dallas didn’t even play. The Thunder lost to the Timberwolves in the play in. If you’re gonna bait at least have it be based in fact.
LMAOOO I’m deadddd
maybe he could do better than getting spanked by the Wolves in 5 as the favorite 3rd seed lmao.
Painful bait
