Victor “The Alien” Wembanyama appears in the official Artemis 2 broadcast to wish the astronauts a safe journey
“Please puny humans, advance your technology and build space lasers to keep the Martians from taking me back!” Ok Wemby…
Iguodala is still alive idk why hed be scared of martians
I WANT IGUODALA 🗣️
Deathbeam pointed at earth
Fate of the universe on the line…
Once Wemby will be too strong for the league, Silver, Mitch Johnson and the NASA will have to trick him on board of a new spaceship and send him on a desert planet where he won’t be able to harm the league anymore.
World Breaker Wemby is a nice, alliterative nickname.
I read this as space ladders
Jaylen Brown is punching the air rn
Steph & Kyrie too, they’re in shambles
Won’t anyone think of Derrick White?
He even invited Bill Nye to his shoe launch!
Are we even sure he believes in the moon landing
That’s Derrick White ur talking about
And Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving,…
At least Tyler Herro believes in it, since it happened after 1950.
Pretty sure Barack Obama speed dialed Steph to set him straight.
There was some controversial opinion Jaylen Brown was believed to have
But I do remember he was antivaxx tho
If you’re a conspiracy theorist, you probably don’t believe in the moon landing.
I think we’d prob be horrified to find out how many NBA stars don’t believe in the moon landing
Pro athletes in general. They don’t usually have the most thorough education, for obvious reasons.
And people dont want to correct them either cause of either fear of consequences, them being rushed through programs or creating fake ones at prestigious schools like Duke did with Zion.
Universities unfortunately have no shame when it comes to college sports. It’s all about that sports revenue for them.
Yeah, most places don’t cover the moon landing until sophomore year.
They all believe a dude died, but only for a couple days, and then came back from the dead to “forgive our sins” (not sure how being dead for a weekend forgives humanities sins).
But video evidence, physical evidence, and 100% of the smartest scientists in the world agreeing that obviously the moon landing happened is just a bridge too far. Even though it probably would have been easier to land on the moon than to do the massive global conspiracy they’re talking about …
Pretty disappointed in derrick white for falling for some idiots conspiracy theories.
….has any questioned Lebron on his astronomical/lunar travel stance?
The French education system probably does a better job than the majority of the US….
Seeing as Americans have voted for a demented senile pedo rapist for a second time after we saw how he handled the pandemic… Yeah Americans are dumb as fuck.
Source: I live here.
No idea why you are downvoted because it’s true lol
Some Americans love and I mean love to talk about the level of their private schools (only way to compare schools). In France, you get field trips domestically and on some years internationally, (they’re funded by the state (as in France)), you learn how to swim and you have a half day on Wednesdays, you get the option to joining sports clubs for a small fee.
You get access to healthy food for the cafeteria and a balanced diet (you pay for la cantine sometimes but it’s not exhorbitant). You read a lot of literature, not just the basics and you’re taught a round about education which continues for the Lycée (then it changes in your final years).
Outside of the price, if you’ve been at both (private American school and a good public school in France), you get a better education in a roundabout way in France, albeit minus the monstrous prices and the way maths or the metric systems are taught in the States.
Many Americans have backwards reasoning when it comes to international comparisons.
Their logic is America = the greatest nation in the world so how we do things in America is obviously the best.
So saying things like France schools have better foods, better literacy, provide a more well-rounded education, etc. may make it seem like France does things better but if France did things better then America wouldn’t be the best at everything and since we KNOW that America is the best at everything we know French schools can’t actually be better.
One of my friends is a 7th grade social studies teacher and he legitimately believes in American Exceptionalism.
the propaganda down there to make that sort of thing common is crazy
[deleted]
My question would be is it better to be a good teacher of biased propaganda or a worse teacher of objective reality?
I think the former would lead to worse outcomes than the latter.
I’m pretty sure that’s genuinely part of history curriculum here. I remember in 8th grade history we were talking about WW1 and the role nationalism played in getting people to go to war. And my teacher casually said something like “actually, according to the curriculum we get from the state, we’re supposed to teach you to be nationalists for America”. And even 13-year-old me was like “so this is all just brainwashing?”
Yeah tell me about it. Having done both school systems, well before I knew of the political intricacies that were in place in order to keep a portion of the population, excuse me for better terms, dumb or failing every literacy metric, it was baffling how it could call itself the “best” at everything. You had, like you said, teachers repeating that propaganda all the time.
For example, I simply couldn’t believe the idea of having shitty food for Lunch or going to the fast food/ restaurant, around the corner whereas in France, you had a well rounded meal all year round, with different food and nutrition every school day provided by the system.
Most school classes follow a college/university schedule, for example in college/Lycée (it’s equivalents are high school/middle school) you have one class for geography, then maths, then language (Spanish, English or Latin). Now some might say, “well it’s the same here” but the level of depth in that ‘*same*’ education is not comparable.
The factors that hamper the US education are many and complex, but I’d argue the biggest issue is that there is a high amount of fractionalization of people and bad practice in pedgagogy (I understand the sentiment of the IDEA and I agree with it in principle; but LRE makes it impossible- you cannot accommodate the lowest achievers and the highest achivers in the same class/enviornment;it’s like putting an NBA prospect in practices with JV players and expecting them to improve).
The US, in order to have higher standards, needs more rigor earlier and instead of reducing rigor, finding ways to meet lower students were they’re at while maintaing the a higher level for the general population.
There’s a reason for the phrase “the highest indicator of student success is zip code”, and there needs to be initiatives to fix the issues to go with that. Part of the flight from public schools is they’re isolating and creating a higher barrier of so the standards can be higher without encouting legal issues. In a lot of ways, education has been dumbed down to be more legally compliant, and the American solution has been charter and private schools instead of working to fix the public sector.
the highest indicator of student success is zip code
I’m convinced most of this is just the extent to which parents give a shit about their kids’ education. IDK how smart I am, but my parents really drove home how much it mattered to do your best in school, and I was surrounded by kids whose parents felt the same way.
I think deep down I’m a lazy person, so if I was born to normal parents in a typical American town, I don’t think I would have made it as far as I have.
I find that deplorable because many children have been unfortunately left behind (Bush for that counter slogan and what has followed since, has blood on his hands yet again) in the American school system. The French school system has its shortcomings, it still has systemic issues that need to be addressed, but as a kid, I was thoroughly disappointed by the American side of things.
I absolutely agree how the American school system punish kids based on geography as one street compared to another meant you had access to education that was worlds apart. Also kids in the States never seem to really repeat the year, some schools because of their quotas, let a lot of kids that need remedial studies pass and the tests were very easy compared to France. The system needs remedial the problem as always and the reason why there is a significant exodus to the private, and why teachers in general are paid in poo water is : politics. As long as education remains a political issue, the general population will continue to suffer.
kyrie head will explode when he thinks about any round thing in space.
dont think I’ve ever liked another teams player this much
Funny enough, I liked Tim Duncan a lot also.
I mean, when the man wasn’t busting you ass on the court, he was just a car and D&D fanatic.
Getting the team to play Star Craft on flights is iconic
And funding Hurricane/humanitarian relief efforts
Yeah, that was cool too, but those LAN parties went hard.
David Robinson too, probably one of the kindest people to ever play the game and one of the more underrated all-timers imo
It’s crazy how, apart from one playoff series, Robinson generally outplayed Hakeem when they matched up but that 1 series is literally all anybody thinks about when comparing the two.
As someone who has both players extremely high on my list of favorite non-Warriors, I think it sucks that justified Hakeem praise is so often accompanied by unjustified Robinson downplay. It’s even more unfair because Rodman basically admitted to quitting on the Spurs in that series, which led to DR getting sabotaged on the defensive end.
Loved Tim because he played really simple, great defensively and he didnt care too much about fame. He hasn’t seeked it either since retiring.
Ngl I’m rooting for the guy to win if we are first round exit
When we inevitably flame out in the second round (as is tradition) I’m going to bandwagon so fuckin hard for the Spurs.
Hes got this weird balance of being cocky without being arrogant and also humble and level headed at the same time. Truly a unicorn
Cockiness becomes less offensive when the guy being cocky can back that shit up on the court.
Giannis?
Yeah I’m a life long rockets fan, so there’s some built up apprehension. But the guy is just likable, and that team is just likable.
Him and Edwards will be the one Im watching once Steph retires.
It reminds me how I felt about the splash brothers before they made me miserable for a decade
He’s the man
I don’t think I’ve ever hated a player as much as him and Steph. How people enjoy watching players destroy their team I’ll never understand
Yeah it’s safe to say that this guy is now the face of the NBa
No problems with this
This is so weird played younger than him have accomplished more but don’t get this type of admiration lol.
“Safe to say” I swear to god Redditors live in their own world.
he probably will be in the future, and he’s close right now, but it’s Luka
https://trends.google.com/explore?q=%2Fm%2F0110q02h%2C%2Fg%2F11fxc1n884%2C%2Fm%2F0135s_cz%2C%2Fg%2F11j0n2hz6c%2C%2Fm%2F0gxrc1%2C%2Fg%2F11h3bgwhhq%2C%2Fm%2F03wbkl5%2C%2Fm%2F0pdnj7h&date=2024-04-02%202026-04-02&geo=Worldwide
No one thinks this
I don’t get why that would be the case? I personally don’t like Luka, but he’s clearly the face of NBA. We could go by past year stats instead so that the trade talk is not included and Luka is the most known player both in the EU and USA.
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=%2Fm%2F0110q02h,%2Fm%2F0pdnj7h,%2Fm%2F0135s_cz,%2Fg%2F11j0n2hz6c,%2Fg%2F11fxc1n884&hl=en&legacy
I don’t think you understand what those links show.
Explain then.
From what I know. Being the face of the league isn’t a box-score stat, it’s a measure of visibility and cultural mindshare. Google Trends is the most objective tool we have to measure which player the world is actually paying attention to. Since the data is normalized relative to the other players in the set, it clearly shows Luka has the largest global footprint.
People search names for their own reasons according to what the media is putting out. Your links show how variable it is over time.
Now add LeBron. He is still clearly the face of the NBA.
Steph is also recently about tied with Luka, but had been leading him for awhile before that.
In the US, it’s LeBron #1, then Luka/Steph/Wemby about tied for a distance second.
obviously? people here were talking about new faces of the league
No, you and the person you responded to both said “now”, not “new”. LeBron and Steph are still the faces of the NBA, so you’re both wrong.
For new faces of the NBA, Wemby is about equal to Luka according to your Google Trends argument, both worldwide and in the US. Luka did have some more/higher peaks after big games, but their averages are about the same. Considering he’s much younger and has had less time for his fame to build, Wemby will probably surpass Luka.
That’s literally what I said
Using Google Trends as a benchmark for this is kinda weird, but even then I’d reckon a good amount of people would just search “Wemby” rather than his full name.
What im getting is people don’t even know how google trends work
Implying what? That “Wemby” searches are logged under “Victor Wembanyama”? Because a quick search shows how that’s simply not true.
WRONG
By this standard Jaden Ivey might be the face of the league
His personality is drier than tim duncan lmao, not every superstar needs to be “the face of the nba”.
Bro wdym wemby got a nice personality what makes you think it’s dry
Bro is intensely locked in, leaned into the alien stuff, and honestly a whole list of things
People don’t understand that Wemby might seem physically intimidating, but he was put arrived on this earth to play basketball and rescue cats from trees.
My pod, meant for Kansas, clipped some satellites and ended up near Versailles. Still waiting for the heat vision.
as if sga is interesting at all
Sga is even worse, Ant is the face of the NBA.
Yeah the homophobic deadbeat, that’ll do
Except Redditors don’t decide who the face is, so … yeah. Ant is absolutely a contender for that title.
sure, 0 top 3 mvps and hes face of the nba…
LMFAO that’s the funniest shit I ever read
Thank god the ant face of the league media narrative died because bro has no aura and is actually not even as good as Brunson
ANT is not the face of the league, but not for any to the reasons you mentioned
Peak Reddit take
These people are delusional, pay them no mind.
Lol. LMAO
Username-post combo breaker lmao
What a fucking downgrade from Steph and LeBron lol
Not sure if you know about the paternity lawsuits…
Yeah cuz that’s how fans (outside of white ass Reddit) decide who the face is, so true!
Ants personality is being absent of his kids life. Pretty cool if you ask me
There is genuinely not a single person in this world who isn’t a Timberwolves fan who thinks of Edwards over Wemby when they think of the NBA.
I mean, clearly it’s Luka with Wemby at second
You’re too desperate in these comments, man. I agree with the others saying that you’re reading too much into these charts.
desperate for what? I find the idea of face of the league to be a moronic thing in the first place, but people on this sub love dumb shit like this, so I was trying to help them look at actual statistics instead of voices in their head. There has not been a single argument I got, except “this is wrong” and that was the end of it.
That’s not true. Various folks have pointed out that you’re missing other Wemby names, that these trends are relative, that Europe affects these, that the trade is inflating these, etc. Face of the league isn’t “Who gets googled the most?”, it’s who is most culturally dominant and would be the first player picked to represent the NBA. That is most definitely not Luka.
you mentioned the things I already said about this, it was not other people but me that said all of this lol, can you show me proof of Wemby’s name missing though? The other person definetly didn’t, i couldn’t replicate or find that after trying multiple times
wrong
And Luka isn’t? Do you even watch his post game interviews?
Wemby is the most manufactured star. You’d think this is WWE
Look at Wetbanana man, so inspirational
You mean Hector Banana Bread
Probably Top-3 All-Time NBA meme from a non-Basketball fan. 😂
Benadryl Cabbagepatch
I honestly love how this space mission has resonated with pretty much everyone.
It’s hard to find any kind of unifying event these days that we can all just say “wow that’s pretty fucking cool”
Artemis II, Project Hail Mary being a monster hit, new season of For All Mankind, is space travel making a comeback?
I looked at the Sci fi movies before the 2007-2008 financial crisis and safe to say sci fi being big in the media is a recession indicator
☹️
Star Wars released in 77, oil crisis in 79
The Matrix in 99, dot com bubble and Enron in 2001
Pencil in heavy job losses in 2028
Because it dares people to dream and be hopeful. I think you’re on to something
Turns out when you make your surroundings into a living hell, it’s inspiring to see people gtfo.
I’ll take “Quotes from your average NBA player who came from the hood before the 2000s” for $100, Alex.
Plus Exodus and the Expanse Osiris Reborn games coming out, sci-fi is finally making a comeback. I love fantasy but I’m ready for the pendulum to swing back to sci-fi.
NEW SEASON FOR ALL MANKIND IS FINALLY OUT??? Jesus that took forever. Thank you for making my day.
Still gotta finish season 4 myself. Loved the first 2
Is the movie any good? Does it deviate much from the book?
It doesn’t deviate much, if at all. However, it glosses over most of the science and figurative weight of the situation by cutting most of the pre-launch, flashback stuff.
Oh that’s weird. Isn’t the flashback stuff an integral part of the general plot, including the twist at the end?
There is enough there that the twist is still important.
During the broadcast in the UK they interviewed some spectators and one woman said something like “Space travel is the most miraculous thing humanity can do. It’s the peak of our sciences and capabilities and it brings us all together”.
Thought she summarized it pretty well!
This. Here’s a link to a source doing frequent updates on the progress
https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/nasa-artemis-ii-launch/
I didn’t even know some space mission was happening
He’s one of those incredible people that - for example - if he stopped playing basketball tomorrow, he’d just start something else and be equally happy.
Intellectually I think he’s a lot like Kareem too.
The league could use a new Kareem these days. He’s hanging in there, but lacks the profile of an active legend.
I’d hope not especially considering kareems affinity for Israel
kareems affinity for Israel
Where did you get that?
You gotta source that claim. KAJ is a Muslim and a pacifist. Claiming he’s pro-Israel is a massive stretch.
but the television told me its bad to like this
People rank a lot of assholes ahead of other people on all-time great lists and rankings because they’re more fun to talk about generally. Wemby’s nice cause he’s absolutely ruthless at times without coming across like an asshole. Kind of has both interesting and human qualities.
Yin Yang
Yao Ming*
Yeah he’s ruthless but still respectful, which goes a long way for staying likeable.
Oh cute humans… sending rockets to my homeland? How quaint
Wemby is a really smart dude and knows how big this launch was. First time in 50 years humans have even left low orbit. Can’t believe it’s been that long.
Glad this guy is going to be the face of the league for the next decade. It’s truly refreshing after all the stuff coming from illiterate people like Kyrie, Brown or the straight up morons like Isaac and Ivey (and all those who enable them).
I cannot be any more impressed than I am already in these three years but I am sure this is only the beginning. An other-worldly athlete is somehow showing us that you can be an unapologetic nerd too.
Love him
This is so awesome. It’s the good to know the future face of the league is not a dumb moron who doesn’t believe in science. LFG! Wemby
He’s trying to get home bruh.
None of the Houston Rockets recorded a message. just saying.
In the locker room… Houston has a problem.
Anybody got an ID on that NIKE long sleeve wemby has on
He had to introduce himself as a basket player cause he knows the astronauts are a bunch of nerds who don’t watch sports
If they need any supplies, he can just jump and finger roll them to the moon
He’s also our insurance policy against meteors, he can just swat em away
There are people that choose to go through 4 stages of cognitive dissonance to hate on this man. I don’t get it. He looks like the type of guy most would want to have in their group of friends.
He’s probably one of these “hybrids” we keep hearing about
NASA builds a spaceship to get people to the Moon.
Meanwhile Wemby’s gotta duck once a day so the Moon doesn’t hit him on the way by.
Beltalowda
WEMBY GO HOME
It’s crazy how much he knows he has the league in his hands
For the sake of young boys, we have to put athletes in positions where they are interested in science, in reading, in art, whatever. Good for Wemby.
This is fucking awesome. Younger generations need role models that care about science and learning.
Now I know he is winning mvp.
I love you Vic ❤️
Wembognia
Why are we going to the moon when we can just ask Wemby to get on a chair and reach it for us?
It should have been Jaden Ivey sending the message
science is cool
The title made this even more cool. 👽
