This is false. Nike does weird shit for tennis players all the time. Dimitrov wore a custom pair of vapors. Nadal used the same outsole with different uppers, fed used a different shank and outsole combination than what was retail.

Nike can easily throw an old shoe into a special production. They do it all the time for tennis players, the truth is that Jarrett Allen isn’t asking the right people or his agent sucks at advocating for him.

Kyries are honestly very good. Kobes vary but I have a pair now that I really like. Really liked last year’s LeBron’s but they can feel a bit heavy. Really don’t like the GT Cuts and they seem to be “Hyperdunk” of this generation.

I really loved those early Kyrie models with that barebones cushion system—it gave you court feel that you couldn’t really find in any other performance shoe. Plus having the traction come up and around the sides was sick for getting low to the ground and making quick moves.

Cushion has zero impact on joint health believe it or not due to the “cushion paradox.” Overcushioned shoes and high heels promote poor gaiting, leading to heel striking and just simple ignorance to the actual impact of running and jumping. Cushions don’t actually disperse a significant amount of energy when striking, although they can make you feel like you are. Too much cushion can actually trick your brain into striking HARDER to find better balance, because too much cushion makes balancing harder.

I respect it. I’ve personally had a ton more twisted ankles from very cushioned shoes specifically because they are far more unstable. There’s a decent middle ground. I’d NEVER play in xeros for instance but I love playing basketball in my altras and have never turned an ankle or had any rattling.

25mm seems to be my sweet spot. 35 mm cushion with a high heel is just incredibly excessive and still promotes heel landing rather than landing on the forefoot or even midfoot. After a jump which is a much better technique for shock absorption that no amount of cushion will make up for.

As a casual wearer of Kyrie 3s I can confirm despite years of gentle use and storage, the outsoles dried out by about 2021. I still wear them to walk around in but the soles are rock-hard.

as someone who wore a pair of kyrie 3s all the way out, i wish i had another pair too. absolutely some of the best and most responsive basketball shoes ive ever had. cooked my best friend in 1s every day for a summer in them. never felt any issues related to the lack of cushion. always felt secure, responsive, light, and grippy at crazy angles cuz the rounded sides. id probably put them #2 behind kobe 6s.
