People will talk about him like he’s a black hole on offense but given how we want to play with pace, he helps a lot with that being able to grab a board, handle the ball well, and that spin move is working right now.

He’ll likely go through a stretch soon where the floater touch isn’t as automatic as it feels right now, and his offensive value will take a hit for it. But he’s a smart player who understands his limitations and largely is playing within himself. Really impressive stretch

As much as I love what Jalen Johnson and NAW have done for the Hawks this year, I would definitely argue that Dyson is the most important player on the team. When he’s not on the court the defense overall is noticeable worse, which isn’t a surprise, but the offense just don’t flow as easily either. His ability to get boards as a guard and move the ball in transition has been extremely impressive this year. Really fun to watch.

And yes, there are a few players above Dyson in Net Rating if you lower the MPG requirement. 30 mins is pretty standard cutoff for high usage players, that’s why it was chosen. The main takeaway from this post should not be that Dyson has been the best player in this stretch, or that he’s been better than other players that have a higher Net Rating on lower minutes. Just that he is playing some elite basketball in spite of his ongoing (but getting better) 3P shooting woes.

He keeps the offense moving and the defense locked in. Really doesn’t surprise me one bit it shows up in the Net rating like this

Also 26% from 3 tells me his shot is going to come back. And from what I’ve seen of his work ethic so far, I’m going to guess he’ll be putting that work in this offseason and come back even better
