Based on estimated wins added (which I’m pretty sure is just extrapolated +/- so nothing too accurate) they’d be the 5th seed without Shai. He leads the lead in biggest EWA which obviously implies he makes a bigger impact on his team than any other star.

Edit: Looking it up it might just be the value added stat (which is just points scored over a “replacement” level player) divided by 30 which isn’t nearly as representative as the stat name implies. Still pretty impressive though.

Your star doesn’t get double teamed every play if the team is a “ super team”

Shai makes them a superteam, any other player and it’s a different story. There’s not a more efficient and less turnover prone high volume scorer in the NBA. The Thunder offense blows, so it’s important for the center of its offense (Shai) to create high quality offense on his own and hit those shots at a ridiculous clip.

Yeah I mean the narrative that has been sometimes pushed by people in this sub—that this team is good without SGA and they carry him and therefore he should not be MVP—has always been bizarre. This team is nothing without SGA.

SGA makes the team better, and the rest of the players also help SGA

No hate to jdub but his offense has been really inconsistent for like the last 30 games he played and it’s so funny how people who just hate shai try to pretend like he’s this god tier second option discredit him. He’s a good player but he’s been pretty mediocre (probs due to injury) for a bit imo

His offensive role is just a really bad fit for him. It’s one of the problems with the style OKC plays. Some guys conform well to the 3&d role with few touches and dribbles. Wallace plays better the more time he has the ball. 

I was really hoping he’d take the next step with the extra responsibility when guys were out but it may very well be he’s a rhythm guy who needs the touches to get going.

The Thunder’s offense completely stalls when he sits, it’s like watching two different teams. Dude’s creating everything and still getting doubled every possession.

I was going to ask you what calls you specifically took offense to, but I noticed you’ve been going on about the Heurter foul in OT. Im not sure how a discussion can advance beyond that, because even the most marginal contact to a jump shooters shooting arm while in the process of shooting has been a foul for the entirety of modern day basketball. It doesn’t take much at all to impact a jumper
