I think what the pitchfork mobs will miss is that no one else on OKC got a whistle all night, OKC second best player fouled out, and multiple offensive fouls went against Shai including a call that took away a game-winning three.

For better or worse, the Pistons were playing Shai 1-on-1 coverage with g-league level players. If that’s the game plan, and the Thunder run 90% of the game through Shai, and he gets two feet in the paint on 40 possessions, he’s going to draw a lot of fouls, almost half of them going uncalled. Not even baiting, just getting hacked, shoved and tripped all game, with 2 or three soft calls in there as well. And it nearly worked for the Pistons, they had a chance to win at the buzzer on a clean look– it wasn’t a bad gameplan but when you foul a guy all night he’s going to get a lot of free throws.

Tiktok brains will think he was swastika-flopping for 53 minutes straight while Dort and Wallace piledrived any Piston who dared to touch the ball.
