2. 2013 ECF vs Pacers - Game 3 5 pts, 2-8 FG, fouled out - no impact.

3. 2018 R1 vs 76ers - Game 5 11 pts, 4-15 FG - ugly shooting in final playoff game.

4. 2011 Finals vs Mavs - Game 5 23 pts, 6-13 FG — late turnovers, defensive mistakes.

5. 2012 ECF vs Celtics - Game 6 17 pts, 6-17 FG — invisible while LeBron carried (45/15/5).

6. 2007 R1 vs Bulls - Game 2 6-18 FG, 7 TO - inefficient and sloppy.

7. 2014 Finals vs Spurs - Game 4 10 pts, 3-13 FG - looked physically done.

The key difference in guys seen as winners vs guys seen as chokers is having elite teammates who can carry while you’re off.

I’ve said this before, but the only playoff series I hold against harden is the 2016 spurs loss. Otherwise, he has never lost a series that he’s been favored in.

Prime Wade is a way better finisher around the rim. Like 10x the finisher Harden is or was.

Prime Wade’s defense blows Harden out of the water several times over. He has like an insane amount of blocks as a guard, besides all the other aspects of defense.

Prime Harden’s passing and playmaking wasn’t on display like it is now, but presumably it wouldn’t be that much worse, which puts him reasonably far ahead of Wade.

Something that Wade will always have over Harden that people overlook as being parcel of being a good player is being able to play 2nd fiddle. Yes, you can be THAT guy, but if you can be the guy behind THAT guy, I think it’s a testament to your ability to understand the game of basketball in its totality. Harden is kinda doing that now where he’s taken backseats to more potent offensive threats with his last couple teams - but he’s still the primary ballhandler and offensive engine for them. We didn’t see much of this from Wade due to injuries, but it seemed like he had that in him when he became deferential to Bron.

So is it head and shoulders either way? Honestly I don’t think so, but I think people look at the scoring comparison and weight the bulk of their argument there. That’s 100% how casuals and average people in general think about ball. I respect that Bev is an NBA player with NBA level experience, but the over-emphasis on scoring affects even the guys at the top.

I am so tired of people riding Harden like he was some incredible player. He was a regular season stat stuffer. Year after year he was horrid in the postseason. Never once did Harden come remotely close to 2006 DWade in the playoffs.

I think Wade’s legacy is better than Harden’s. Harden will have longevity and total numbers because of that on his side, and his peak was awesome, but I think Wade was just a better overall player and knew how to win.

They had different games.

Harden was elite at 3’s and facilitating and for a while had a crazy step back midrange game (between 2013-2016) that he later abandoned under D’Antoni. He was a solid post defender, decent at steals, but not so great in any other aspect. Also played a really iso heavy style and was on the best of all time in the pick and roll.

Wade lived more off midrange and was the much better perimeter defender. He was also better at blocks and steals. One of the better defensive guards at his position. He was also a good facilitator in his own right, but not as good as Harden.

They were similar at ability to get to the rim, elite finishing, playing downhill, and drawing fouls. Two of the best at drawing fouls ever. Although Wade had that crazy peak during the 06 playoffs.

I think Harden was probably the better player overall and don’t think it’s that close. It is close but not that close to where there’s no clear winner. But I don’t think the Harden high usage play style leads to championships in general. Although I think Harden was the closest to ever doing it in the 2018 season. He would very likely have a championship if it wasn’t for the Chris Paul injury.
