Bro it is kinda hilarious sometimes, like as long as someone’s arm is close to where both his arms need to go for a shooting motion, he manages to pull into form and drag one of his arms across theirs and get a foul.

Never seen anyone do it like him to be honest, he gets a lot of fouls by the process of pulling into his shot which gives you another extra way to get fouled that a lot of people aren’t prepared for

There’s a clip where Shai literally just jumps into the path of Josh Hart and pushes off and the idea is you basically give him all the space he would require to make a natural motion because otherwise he will conduct performative acts to get the call.

And that’s not on Shai it’s on the refs.

You just have to keep that same energy for both teams though and again that’s on the refs.

The weird thing is that refs will often not call these soft bait fouls but not for Shai. They stay consistent with him. Same happened with Embiid.

What’s even crazier is that someone like Ant will get hard fouled multiple times a game without calls.

I think fouling baiting is kinda weak and not very fun to watch, and the way SGA has based a noticable part of his game around it is kinda lame, but…..with that being said SGA is actually insanely good at it lol – his body control compared to other NBA athletes is pretty wild, especially when you considered the speed at which he does it, and the fact that he can angle his body and limbs so precisely at speed is hella impressive. I would say I respect or enjoy it very much, but the athletic feat is definitely impressive

I genuinely do not judge Shai or any other star player who knows how to get a good whistle. They are trying to win and doing things that help their team win. But I really do think talking about this like it’s a totally normal basketball skill is stupid and bad for the game. A player could be really good at doing a backflip, and that’s a skill, but I don’t want teams to get 2 points per backflip so now basketball is kinda all about doing backflips. It’s become a seperate minigame tangental to the actual basketball happening, and it’s frustrating to me that it’s sometimes now talked about like a core skill like having a handle or floater.
