Nobody has made me fall in love with and appreciate basketball like Jokic has. I do believe that he is the best player in the league, but Wemby is making sure that I will stay watching basketball after Jokic is gone.
Super random but if you wanted to cherry pick a stat against Wemby’s case for MVP is that he substantially less minutes per game than Shai, Jokic, or Luka.

That’s a 6.8-minute gap compared to Luka, which is significant when you’re evaluating total on-court impact over a full season.
For context, Giannis holds the lowest mpg ever for an MVP with 30.4mpg back in 19-20 season, which is still higher than Wemby right now.
Now compare production:
Giannis (2019–20 MVP) 29.5 PPG 13.6 RPG 5.6 APG 1.0 SPG 1.0 BPG
Wemby (this season) 24.2 PPG 11.3 RPG 3.0 APG 1.1 SPG 3.1 BPG
So here’s where it gets interesting:
Giannis = more scoring + playmaking volume
Wemby = defensive outlier (3+ blocks per game is stupid)
BUT Giannis did it on a 1-seed, historically dominant team, in slightly more minutes.
My takeaway is that even though Wemby is a maxed out NBA2K player and already elite NBA player, he is not quite dominant as Shai, Jokic or Luka yet.
Also, the rest of the Spurs are really fucking good. Stephon Castle is a criminally underrated player and he is a great piece to pair with Wemby.

Sga’s case is resting on being the 1 seed right now. Jokic has the stats, wemby has the momentum, sga is relying on most voters having made up their mind a few weeks ago and being the safe bet having won the ship last year and being on the 1 seed again

Which like, OKC and San Antonio are the two top seeds in the league. Which like, even if you disagree with that idea of the “MVP”, it’s still a reasonable take.
IMO Shai is the MVP, but the only other argument is for Wemby. Jokic pre injury would’ve been in it, and Luka if he’d been this recent Luka (and the lakers had been this good) would also have a chance.

I don’t think Wemby is the “best player in the world” yet but I agree that he will be, and I’d probably vote for him for MVP if I could.
Jokic is central to making the Nuggets the greatest offense of all time, but his dominance is reliant on his teammates around him and his defensive limitations mean he really needs the other 4 guys to really bring it.
Shai is great, but the Thunder would be a serious playoff team (but not historically great or a finals favorite) if you replaced him with just any starting point guard in the league.
Wemby isn’t half the offensive juggernaut that Shai or Jokic are, but has anyone in history has been so game warping on defense? Idk if anyone’s counted how many shots opponents nope out of just because Wemby is nearby, but it’s a really high number and leads to so many turnovers and bad shots.
I think the Thunder would be around .500 without Shai this season. They have really lacked anyone else that can create offense for most of the year. They would be scrappy and annoying, but down the stretch in close games how are they getting any buckets?
