This year will be the 4th straight year Giannis has either missed the playoffs or never made it past the First Round
The last time Giannis and the Bucks made it past the First Round of the playoffs was 2022 when they would lose to the Celtics in the Second Round.
For more context, Giannis was hurt for 2 games in 2023 but came back to play and he missed 2024 playoffs entirely from a calf strain. For the 2025 playoffs he was healthy. And now he will miss the 2026 playoffs.
At the beginning of the 2023 season, Giannis stated he wanted the team to stay aggressive and chase another title and made it clear he didn’t want to stay somewhere that wasn’t competing at the highest level. The organization response was to trade Jrue Holiday for Dame Lillard. This landed Jrue to the Celtics where he became a significant piece to winning the championship that year.
That same year, the Bucks started out 30-13 under Adrian Griffin until Giannis surfaced doubts about the direction the team was heading in, which prompted the organization to fire him and hire Doc Rivers in his place.
Two huge decisions that Giannis brought to the table that are some of many reasons why this current Bucks team is a failure and has a bleak future. Is this a good example of why players shouldn’t have so much say in the direction of a team?
Seeing this reoccurring patterns of postseason injuries as he ages, would a contending team be smart to trade a haul of assets for Giannis?
