This whole issue centers around fans wanting to see stars play in games they paid for. Fans would rather see a stars play less minutes than no minutes at all.

Make it 50 games to be eligible for awards but you must play 65 games for contract incentives if you win MVP/dpoy.

This just isn’t true. His MPG are lower than they were before and his games played are right within his averages since 2018. Unless you’re only talking about 2023-4, but in that case it’s weird to not talk about the fact he only played 37 games in 2024-5.

I mean I feel like I can disagree here to an extent. Players want to play sure, but to say veterans aren’t ok with taking off Regular season games like 2nd night of back to backs or similar situations is crazy talk.

It’s not so black and white. Players should be playing as much as possible. But with the wear and tear they accumulate it’s also supported that load management does have its benefits in keeping them healthy in the long term. The system just shouldn’t be abused or taken advantage of.

what’s going on in my head personally is that i would much rather nba stars are healthy for the playoffs and healthy for more total season than decreasing the probability of those outcomes so they can play another 10 or 15 regular season games a year.

the game has dramatically changed in terms of joint/tendon load per game. 82 is too many now.

i’m not saying how i value these factors is objectively correct. but in my personal opinion, i really don’t care at all when a star player misses a regular season game, and sometimes even find it more interesting to see how teams show who they are when they have to adapt to absences. conversely, i find it pretty lame when star players miss whole playoff series or have careers cut short to soft tissue injuries. i’m confident these outcomes are less likely to happen if players rest more during the regular season, so that’s the logic in my head.

don’t care at all how much these players make. not sure why this is a factor for people. sounds like a bunch of pocket watching to me. whether some dude i don’t know makes 2 mil or 200 mil has zero bearing on what i think of him missing a game vs getting injured.

I want Wemby to have a long 20+ year career is what’s going through my head. If he does that playing 25 minutes an night and 60-65 games a season for his whole career, that’s perfectly fine by me. The Spurs load managed Duncan for years (DNP: OLD) and we got 5 championships out of it.

Why does it matter how much money they make? 5 mil or 10 mil I’m still the same person I was just yesterday. Basketball is a small pleasure I’m allotted in life and these dudes make it possible (not to mention they generate billions for the league and the owners). Yes it’s shitty if I spend money on a ticket and a star I want to see is not playing. But if I’m home it’s not that big of a deal. It’s a lot bigger deal if they get hurt.

The rest helps them play more games, I advocate for players resting so that we can see them as much as possible

I mean in the MLB they play double the games. Even if you missed half a seasons you’re still playing more than the average NBA player

the fines for resting on nat TV are objectively a success to me, but the 65 game rule less so.

Those are super rare exceptions that rarely ever happen, plus the max games that year was 72. Lebron was the lead MVP candidate up to the point of his injury (Solomon Hill)
