[Highlight] Jeremy Lin provides an excellent analysis on Luka’s offensive tendencies
great breakdown, lin needs to do more segments like this
Yes yes yes. Love Lin”s presentation style, I was not familiar with his game
Dude went to Harvard so he can’t be bad at presentation
Eh lots of people can get through these schools with subpar soft skills tbh
Yes, but still better than people like SAS who thought hot takes, screams, repeating the same shit over and over = good
I’m not a fan SAS what so ever but I would say the guy made the right choice going with that style. His annoying ass style got him a ton of attention and money.
Somehow people just like the throwing temper around and love the ragebaiting content.
Dude landed a big contract with his character so yeah I guess he’s very good at it.
I know what youre getting at but go ahead and try to name an ivy league professional athlete that lacks in these skills youre referring to. The athlete part (aka non nepo-baby) kinda screens for what youre trying to say i think
Eh.. maybe. Harvard like most of the ivy’s has an alumni interview component. They have to be passable
Asian tho
Did you see that suit he’s wearing? I don’t think the Harvard culture rubbed off on him.
Did you see his dreadlocks?!!!
lin should be a mainstay
Dude plays dota. He loves strategizing.
His Harvard degree putting in the work
Forget segments. He should try his hand at coaching.
Redick: podcaster to HC
Lin: 1 segment to HC lmao
He got his own annual summer camp for kids.
Are there any pro athletes that dont?
Amazon really bullying people into this style of commentary. So good for the sport
For real, I could watch a half an hour segment of him breaking down Luka’s entire bag
This is the nitty gritty analysis that I love to see, more of this is always good
Keep Lin on TV please, dude brings positive energy and great knowledge
It’s nice to have ball knowers on espn occasionally
Legler was alone for so long
Even if he wasn’t Jeremy Lin, he’s doing great breakdowns of a common move in game and showing off some cool knowledge. It’s good TV
These are common luka moves in like split sec decisions. And dude does this several times a game. Tiring to defend that guy
I tried guarding him the other day. No thanks!
Really well spoken too. A real natural at explaining it all without skipping a beat.
Always loved him since he admitted to playing dota2
Omg he does?! Thats so cool
https://youtu.be/BU4QxyY4dR4
Man, did I just learn something versus the usual commentary? Lin did a great job breaking that down.
It’s annoying how rare this is. Please have Lin do this weekly
Wait? But I thought people like legacy talk, GOAT Talk, dethroning Kobe in their Top 10s talk, Jaylen Brown left hand, SGA Foul Bait and Jokic Luka fat talk?
Sign me up for some Jeremy Lin weekly analysis.
I swear sometimes goat talk is fun but literally 90% of the people do it, having someone do some more technical analysis like this is fun
Can we also talk about how fuckin sleek that suit on Lin is tho?
Hadn’t really thought about this until I read this post, but growing up watching ball, I used to learn so much from the good color commentators like Hubie Brown and Mike Fratello. But if I were growing up today watching ball, I wouldn’t be learning jack shit from 99% of the color commentators. Kind of sad. The watering down / dumbing down is more subtle and insidious than just the super obvious stupidity of the ESPN talking heads.
Yep. Even the best commentators like Zach Lowe or someone like that don’t teach you anything. It’s fun to listen to but it’s really been nice having segments with Amazon prime and stuff like this. All of NBA media should do at least one segment like this.
Yeah hahaha, I can’t believe it, a basketball analyst segment actually analyzed basketball and thought me something. This was a great watch and makes you remember about all the plays that he did do all these
On ESPN no less. I imagine some executive calling the producer and screaming over the phone that the segment needs more arguing.
Wish there was more of this in the NBA media rather than people like perk saying jb for MVP and Luka for all NBA 2nd team
there’s a reason why it took Tim Legler until the past 2 seasons to actually get color commentator privileges for NBA games on ESPN despite being hired by them 20+ years ago…
Giving Tim Legler the prime color commentator slot is the biggest W ESPN has taken
Tim Legler is so good to listen to.
because his temples are bald. post-lobotomy-chic
Because gamblers want better insights into the games they watch on TV?
It’s a travesty that it took ESPN so long to hire him as such
There’s posts from the Youtube channel Thinking Basketball that gets posted here every so often and it’s the same discussion. I think the idea is just that the average dude that watches on TV probably won’t care about deeper stuff like this.
I think that’s, more on the presentation than the content itself. I find it hard to believe that someone watching basketball would “not care” about this great segment by Lin. Thinking basketball can get a little pretentious and longwinded in their content, but there is something between that and Perkins spewing his bullshit, that would absolutely improve the experience for 99% of people.
yeah when I hear perk, stephen a, and all these ‘insiders’ i turn shit off immediately. when I hear dwade, blake griffin, jeremy lin, dirk, i know i’m gonna learn something or see the game differently
This is key for all media. Its never been the content. Its always how the story is told. Thats why even the most cliched, predictable hollywood stories can be entertaining and engaging. And how shows like Mythbusters can take science into a whole new level of entertainment.
I’m not saying Lin is entertaining here at all (I think its a bit dry - and that’s fine - its instructional), but its more entertaining than other break downs I’ve seen.
Either way, I’d be down for a weekly format like this with Lin.
Absolutely
Like, all credit to Lin, this is a fantastic breakdown and it’s really well-presented. No doubt
But it’s not like he’s the only guy that can break down Xs and Os
If fans start expecting or demanding content like this, we’ll see more of it. From Lin or from others
(and unfortunately the opposite is true. If content like this isn’t driving engagement, then why the fuck would they go with this when a Perk rant gets a million views?)
This is one thing that the NFL does better than the NBA, get casual fans interested in the Xs and Os. I hope the NBA can follow suit
No idea why anyone watches that bum after the ridiculous racist comment he made about jokic
No argument here
Idk why anyone watched him before that comment.
There was that one episode that Gilbert Arenas ‘debunks’ a youtuber analysis and i felt like damn that was actually a pretty good watch. He really knows his shit but he plays his goofy character for is chanel.
I wish more people would do analysis, it’s way more fun over guys debating top 10s
Media should have way more segments like this, actually breaking down and explaining how a guy operates in iso is so interesting to watch.
The best I can do is Stephen A Smith making up facts and screaming incoherently
The best I can do is Stephen A Smith making up fats
Keep Jokic out of this!
i remember porzingis being on one of these and it was a good watch
Simple analysis but I have already learned a lot from those few examples alone. This should be the content that is encouraged rather than Chuck or Shaq shouting into the clouds
I apologize Mr. Lin, I wasn’t aware of your analyst game ~
He was great. This is definitely the content I wanna see more of instead of talking heads shouting over one another with hot takes.
I like learning about San Antonio women
Lin making McMahon be part of a Luka glaze segment is comedy gold
I’m not a Mavericks fan, but McMahon has done a crazy amount of glazing for Luka over the years. What’s with the reputation that he doesn’t like him? From what I remember about the Luka trade, McMahon was the messenger for why the Mavericks organization eventually soured on Luka, but he still glazes him.
Before the trade he was always known as the reporter who would take shots at Luka. He’s just a leech no different that windhorst
Mcmahon is the kinda guy who will randomly ask prickly questions at a press conference right after a couple of weeks of glazing. He and the Mavs have a love hate relationship.
Randomly ask prickly questions after weeks of glazing VS randomly betray you in the middle of the night after years of treating you like the superstar you are. I think McMahon and the Mavs are a match made in heaven lol
Where are you even getting this from? Every Mavs fan knows Macmahon had a some kind of a hate boner for Luka. After the trade it seemed like he just had a bigger hate boner for the Mavs organisation maybe
That is a snappy looking suit. Bonus points for wearing oxfords.
Yeah he looks sharp asf
The shoes make the suit
i came to hate on the suit, looks like he’s going to a new year’s eve party with those lapels and the pants are so tight
but i don’t even know a suit, what do i know
Great analysis from Lin. Hopefully ESPN bring him back instead of blacklisting him because he want to talk about basketball instead of screaming like a clown like SAS and Perkins.
Lin is gonna get fired for being smart, another couple million to Stephen A
”- There is one way to stop Luka..
Very funny but also true.
Great analysis to go with the great fit from JLin
Still happy that Lin got a Ring in the NBA, then he got to go back home and win a championship with his brother in Taiwan.
Lin was born and raised in California, not Taiwan.
…he got to go back home then win a championship with his brother in Taiwan.
here ya go
lin is too smart for espn, need him on some real analysis show
tl;dw luka has all the counters off the left to right between the legs.
Yeah, all you have to do is be is super tall, super wide, super strong, have an amazing handle, have unlimited range, and have the softest touch within 10 feet. Easy.
I’m super wide too so technically I’m 10% Luka Doncic.
Hey!! Me too!! My man!!
It crazy that you can be so good at something that basically nobody on the planet can stop you.
Harden crossover, Giannis dunk, Steph 3 pointer, Jokic floater, Ant drive off the mark, MJ stretchy arm, Caruso tackle. Just the absolute apex of skill and atheticism.
You forgot payton pritchard end of quarter half court heaves and Kevin Durant social media multitasking.
KD ruining the vibe of any team. All-timer
Lin also does say it’s only like a portion of his skills too whhich is even crazier.
Jeremy Lin exemplifies what a media member should be. Eloquent, actually watches the games, loves basketball, and swag.
Jeremy Lin exemplifies what a media member should be
I’m not saying Jeremy is one to hold a grudge, but after being described as “unathletic” (!!) – based, I presume, purely on his player photo – he went on to not only prove them wrong, but also show them how it’s done.
(And don’t even get me started on that one ESPN headline that got a staffer fired.)
This is so clear that even I, a moron, learned something
Hallmark of a learned man. Can explain things well.
Really like him describing it as ‘reads’ that shit tickles my brain so good
Lin looking dapper showing off those moves in that suit.
Also excellent integration with the video clips
Total casual. He didn’t even once call luka a bum. He won’t last long in media.
Zion might have a softer touch but we simply don’t see it as often as we’d like to
Close range maybe. Luka extends that floater range further out. Luka’s basically, “what if Trae Young is 6’8’ and gets to throw around his weight”.
We need more of this and less Steven A yelling and Kendrick Perkins hot takes
Like this. Rather see him than Draymond or Shaq.
Damn, Lin dropped too much sauce in one segment. Gotta save some if he wants to become a full time analyst cus he’s good at it
That was fantastic!
A true ball knower!
More in 10 mins than what First Take provided in last 10 years.
Great breakdown by lin. They should bring him in more often
Jeremy Lin has always been high IQ
Love to see Lin man. My favourite player of all time
this is what the people want in sports media, not Steven A Smith’s ass yelling at the camera 24⁄7
Wow. Lin is great in that. That’s what I want to see, not the bullshit analysts with their bullshit shows.
Learned more about basketball in these 5 minutes than I did a lifetime watching ESPN
Great analysis, quality content
It’s wild to see the game progress to where shooting a 180 step back 3 doesnt get you benched…
Because they make it now.
Now that’s a breakdown
Brb bout to re-watch Linsanity NYK highlights for the 23486th time. 😭
Love Lin’s analysis, this is what we’re supposed to be getting frim sports analysts! Get him away from ESPN before they influence him lol
Damn he was so smooth with the explanation, hope Amazon can add him to the team next year, he would be a perfect fit there.
This is what they should do more about.. not all that drama and shit talking from those old heads
Jeremy showing that harvard degree
Jemery look like he about to go to prom and a hotel after.
I crave these types of breakdowns. Not dudes yelling about top 5s
hahahaha I learned a lot based on his explanation I will do it in my next pickup game
When I see stuff like this, I wonder how many players use these skills themselves? Like does Jeremy when he’s playing over seas or wherever, use some of the skills he’s observed from people like Luka in his game? Or is it one of those things where I can see what they’re doing, but I couldn’t replicate it efficiently because of the talent or skill gap?
Your comment reminds me of Ant’s stepback 3 at the elbow.
I’ve noticed that this season, that move is now a staple across the league.
5 years ago, I’d have trouble naming 5 players in the league that could pull that shot off.
Now…
Name any generic role player SG in the league. There’s probably footage of them attempting that move.
So yea it’s a copycat league.
Luka’s bag would take some time though.
For one, that 180 stepback 3 is recent, even for Luka. I don’t remember him shooting it that much with the Mavs.
Lin doesn’t mention that the 180 usually comes with a shove to dislodge the defender, creating extra space. You need weight behind you, to be able to move a defender. Most of the skinny guards won’t be able to pull it off. Maybe players like Julius Randle, Tatum might test it out.
More Jeremy Lin, less Kendrick Perkins.
Lin is great here
Great breakdown, he made it very clear to visually understand.
this was fantastic
It’s been a while I actually learn something about basketball on tv
my goat
Very much real take instead of listening to these clowns.
Honestly amazed by the speed and fluidity of Lin‘s movements as he guides us through Luka‘s bag. Like, if it already looks like that when you‘re breaking it down, pausing and explaining while in a suit, imagine how unstoppable the play is at game speed
What a great clip.
Thorough basketball analysis… on ESPN?!?!?
Seriously they need to give Lin a segment like this every week this was incredible to watch
Man I enjoyed that so much and I am gonna try to add that to my game. Thank you JLin
TIL: I don’t know ball.
Welcome back to the NBA J Lin. Stick around, ESPN desperately needs you
We’re bouta get a linsanity run for ESPN analysis
Jokic has the softest touch in the nba tho
Previous segment Perks agreed with Lin’s analysis. That’s a win lol
Great breakdown, I actually learned a lot from those examples of how methodical Luka is!
as they used to chant during the raptors championship run in garbage time, WE WANT LIN
Ok now I know how to LOCKDOWN Luka
More of THIS, less oldhead BS.
I wanna see Shane Battier’s dissertation on Kobe on TV
i really just prefer chuck complaining about how shitty the games gotten, wtf is this?
ESPN?! Never thought I’d see the day
I see an ESPN logo but they’re not talking about the GOAT debate, I’m confused?
Need more pros speaking on basketball instead of some all time ranking BS
Real insightful analysis. Thanks Jeremy “purge” Lin
- Everyone liked this
Lin as a head coach would be fun
Is this the greatest ball analysis of all time?
No surprises as Lin is a Harvard graduate. Presenting his idea clearly is like second nature.
No mention of the idiotic “pLaY SoMe DeFenSe”?? This is actually amazing.
Music to my ears. ESPN, pay Lin to save your basketball analysis. Hell, pair him with Legler and bring back Zach Lowe. Occasional throw in Perkins if you need a punching bag or someone to get you clips to go viral and you got a hit basketball show on your hands
We should remove the all the negativity and replace them with these kinds of info.
if only ESPN was still worth watching. i’d watch the fuck out of Lin as an analyst
I am no hater, but this isn’t some monster analysis lol. It’s good, credit to Lin, but nothing excellent per se. It’s just that this sub loves the memes rather than actual analysis.
great breakdown, but why is ESPN talking about sports? feels weird idk
I hope JLin goes to Prime. ESPN sucks
Harvard graduates are just different…
This is what we’re missing in the NBA. Instead, we usually get old talents who boast their championship (or records) than analyzing games. They even rarely watch the games lol
Wow. Lin is legit as a commentator. Ivy League professor
I don’t understand why you can’t keep your right foot up. I understand if he gets by you it forces the drop step but what if he doesn’t get by you? I always thought Lukas favorite shot is step back 3 going left. I’d force the double having him drive right, especially when he’s on the right side of the court
This reminds me if Vince Lombardi in the old packer days, they had about 10 plays, everyone knew what they were gonna run……now try and stop me…..they executed way too good.
That was Lingit
Terrible fit tho :(
Excellent analysis, but that suit is terrible.
^ this guy asks for underwear advice on Reddit
what’s your point?
