Utah has never once moved up in the lottery in all franchise history, not getting a top 3 pick has been set in stone ever since the team left New Orleans. It’s less about that and more about ensuring a top 8 pick.

Getting a top 3 pick this year is unlikely. There is no reason to expect it. We just don’t want to lose the pick.

Jazz are tanking to keep the #9 pick out of OKC hands. Getting a top 3 pick would be the cherry.

A Key, Ace, Lauri, Jaren, Walker, Zay, Brice, Flip, Cody, and top 8 pick isn’t a purgatory team next season, they’re going to be closer to the 5th seed in the west than the 15 seed in the west next season.

One of the best games this week was between Golden State and Dallas because both teams were legitimately trying to win the game despite slim to none playoff hopes

If we win, it’d be doubly cursed because our pick would go to Atlanta in that scenario. Basically, Atlanta gets the better pick between ours and the Pelicans, while we get the worse pick.

This is the problem with punishing bad teams for exaggerating their badness. Dallas had the 12th worst record in the league last year and got the number one overall, that shouldn’t even be possible imo, not because they aren’t deserving but because teams like the Wizards, Jazz, Kings etc desperately need it and you kind of fuck them by giving them a 6th overall. 

Even if Jazz tried to win games this year at best they’d be a play in team. Basically telling teams they have to go for that instead of trying to get a Welby or Flagg to rebuild with is just not logical. 

If the Bucks win the lottery it goes to Atlanta.

We could already reasonably expect that long before this year. Jazz and Pacers are the only teams in the entire history of the NBA to never move up in the lottery.

In the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons, the Jazz were actually criticized by fans and the general media for NOT tanking. Both those seasons the Jazz dropped back in the lottery and ended up 9th in 2023 and 10th in 2024.

Realizing there is no such thing as “ethical” tanking, the Jazz fully committed last year and still dropped back as far as possible (1 to 5). At least this time they gave themselves a higher floor and got Ace.

The simple fact is that the Jazz are well aware they aren’t getting anything rigged in their favor. Never happened before and never will. I’m glad they’ve controlled their own destiny to the extent that they can.

I live in Utah and work with some Jazz fans. They’re resigned to the fact that they’re getting the 7th pick. Still, I like to poke them and say they’re unethically tanking, unlike The Process.

After tonight game vs The Lakers, The Nets will have 6 game homestand including games vs The Kings, Wizards, Pacers and Bucks then they close the season out vs The Raptors who will likely have their seeding locked up.

They currently hold the 2nd odds if they win 5 out of their next 8 and finish with the 5th best odds.

The youngest team in the league, a Team with no All Stars, A team who’s best player is someone they got in a salary dump finishing with worst odds than Teams with multiple All Stars. Their floor is the 9th best prospect instead of an guaranteed Top 5 pick because those other teams were just so nasty with their tank.

JJJ had an aggressive tumor in his knee. He played in exactly two games, the second being a home game, because HE said he wanted to play in front of Utah fans at least once before the surgery. But yeah, talk about how we didnt play him in the 4th for a “stretch of games.”

It’s a truly tiny percentage the Jazz could fall all the way to 9 from 5th worse odds. This is why it’s so critical the Jazz tank though. If they fall to 6th worse it goes from basically impossible to unlikely, 7th worse is distinct chance, 8th worse it’s almost a coin flip, and 9th worse is very likely.
