How does a team like kings supposed to improve under new proposed anti-tank measures?
It was already posted but these are the following proposals for the anti tanking measures:
*1. 18 teams in draft lottery (seeds 7-15 in each conference) – flattened odds, with bottom 10 teams having an 8% chance, the remaining 20% odds distributed in decreasing order for 11 through 18, and and a lottery drawing for all 18 picks.
22 teams in lottery using 2-year record (seeds 7-15, plus the four playoff first round exits in both conferences). Lottery teams would reach a minimum win total floor in each season, such as 25 wins. If a team falls short of the floor, it gets slotted to meet the floor. Top 4 drawn as part of lottery, as is currently.
18 teams in a “5 by 5” lottery – bottom 5 teams have equal odds for the top pick, with lottery formed for picks 1-5. Bottom 5 teams have a floor at 10; those that fall out of top 5 get sorted in a separate drawing.*
Admittedly I’m a kings fan so I am biased. But the same questions apply to Wizards, Pelicans, so on. I acknowledge that our owner and FO are dumb as a rock, but I am curious what are we supposed to do to get better?
Under these proposals we will be competing with playoff teams for the lottery pick. We aren’t a FA destination, we don’t have trade assets, and we don’t have young talent. Legitimately, are we just supposed to rot as a franchise under this proposal? I am already close to getting turned off from the kings due to how badly we are managed, I don’t understand how much longer we are supposed to keep watching trash basketball if we can’t even try to improve with the new lottery system.
# EDIT:
If you’re about to comment something along the lines of “don’t pick Marvin Bagley” or “don’t trade Haliburton” or “get a better FO/owner” I’m not responding. This is not actionable on our part and doesn’t contribute to the conversation. I acknowledged that we have bad management, your comment is useless.
