Narratives play a huge part in the mvp race and I’ll keep saying this: if Luka drops 40 and lakers win the two OKC games in april and the nuggets fail to beat the thunder the game after there’ll be a big momentum for Luka to win MVP.

Lakers are a blessing and a curse, every bad game puts you 3 spots down in the ladder but two strong wins against the reigning mvp propels you into the national media spotlight in a way other teams just dont

I think it’s as simple as SGA is having one of the most efficient seasons of all time for a guard on his volume, on a team that’s going to probably win 65 plus games, and Victor is impacting the game as a whole, and particularly on defense, in ways that are very hard to comprehend

I think it’s okay to admit that there can be seasons where multiple players have MVP caliber years and preferring someone over one guy doesn’t mean there’s anything against that person, but that you simply acknowledge there are other guys with worthy cases that resonate more strongly with you as a voter

Luka winning MVP would absolutely be justifiable in my opinion. So would SGA. And so would Victor. The league’s in a great place and the top talent we have right now is mesmerizing

Lakers over/under was 46.5 and we’ll win around 53 games so they’ve definitely out performed. Based on that, Wemby would be MVP although with LeBrons decline and Austin’s injuries, it’s pretty shocking LA will hit 50 wins given the rest of the roster.

I once commented that Luka is the best offensive player this year and got downvoted. Like dude is leading the league in scoring and is 3rd in assists.

Jokic won all three of his MVPs when there was no true tier 1 player on a 60+ win team

He wasn’t competing against TWO of them on 60+ win pace teams like Luka is this season ever nobody ever considered Booker or Tatum real candidates to win the award

Really can’t fault SGA and Wemby…. They’re both having generational seasons.

They are 10 games behind the Spurs man, come on. They both have the same amount of games played at 61, the dude who has 10 more wins will get more MVP consideration.

He had an even better season in 2023-2024 and was only a very distant third in the MVP voting. He was completely unguardable and borderline superhuman that season. If that season was not enough, I don’t know if any season will be unless he becomes a two-way player. His lackluster defense is terribly overblown though. JxmyHighroller did a good video on that.

Jokic averaged basically a 30 pt triple double on 50/40/80 last year lol. Luka is crazy but there’s a gap. Luka should’ve won in 2024 though.

Luka’s always had weaker on/off numbers than Jokic and SGA, and now Wemby. Even if you, personally, don’t put stock in those metrics, there’s going to be enough media guys out there wondering why the Lakers are “only” 5 points better with Luka on the court compared to off, or pull up EPM and see how there’s a big gap between Luka in the other three candidates, and that puts some doubt on how valuable his box score stats really are.

SGA, Wemby, and Jokic just have really ironclad cases whichever way you look at it. The only real caveat would be Wemby’s limited minutes.

If you rate these players out of 5 both on offense and defense, wemby is the obvious first and SGA the obvious second.

Luka will have a ⁵⁄₅ offensive rating but it won’t make up for that ¹⁄₅ in defense.

perhaps it would be more clear to you if you attempted to expound the arguments for the others as well instead of just listing all of Luka’s achievements in isolation

Bc Sga has been playing better than Luka, has been healthier, is having a better season right now.

The mvp is based off your performance vs other mvp candidates. Your Jokic example is silly because he won when his competition did not have some crazy high amount of wins over him

Luka doesn’t have enough melanin. Voters have explained this thought of theirs many times. No reason to think it’s not still true 

Ehh voters love a narrative too. Luka wins a chip and I guarantee you the mvp push gets much stronger the following year.

who cares about that? the more important thing is this illustrious, highly prestigious and meaningful blow by stat thats only used for luka doncic.

Because at some point, trying to iso only one person disrupts the team offense that got them there.

Not in the same universe is a bit strong. Wemby is certainly in a different tier, but peak AD defensively was an absolute force.

The only knock against Luka not getting it is team record (overall) but by that knock, Jokic should be locked into 4th

I would love to see Lukas efficiency stats if he wasnt getting double and tripled everytime. Luka would average 12+ apg if he replace SGA on the Thunder

POTM is more stats driven and MVP takes team record into account quite a bit more. And OKC and San Antonio are lapping the field there

If someone is 4th it doesn’t mean that he’s trash, just that people think others have had better seasons. And by all accounts such arguments are perfectly reasonable. Luka is probably the 4th best player this season.

What the hell does this have to do with anything how is this plus for Luka? Wemby doesn’t play 4th quarter a lot because of blowout. He would probably have blocks triple double his last game. If anything this goes into Wemby favor because his numbers would be more impressive with Luka’s minutes. He plays under 30MPG, only top 15 scorer to do that.

He won player of the week twice in a row. And Averaged 40 pts last week. Lost one game in that span by 3 points to the number 1 east team. Got moved down 😂

Its probably the real possibility of the Spurs taking the #1 overall seed now. If Spurs get #1 Wemby seems like the likely pick for MVP at this point.

SGA should still be #1 but it seems fair to put Wemby in the top 2. Whichever team gets #1 seed probably wins MVP. Luka most likely isn’t winning it, no matter who finishes #1. Seems like its either Wemby or SGA.

6’7” PG can surely block his 6’3” opponent
