[Highlight] Kon Knueppel hits his 250th 3-pointer of the season
Remember this is A Rookie.
Even this play, it reminds me more of a prime Steph/Ray than a prime Klay which has been his most constant comp. I think that take was hated on earlier this season by those not watching but people are starting to see it.
Kon, all season, was getting assisted at an extraordinary rate by the metrics. It would suggest he sits in the corner and gets the ball kicked out to him. That was the minority of the time.. It ignored how often he drives to draw attention, kicks it out to someone, and then relocated like Steph/Ray would do for an open 3. He doesn’t stop moving which makes it very hard to keep track of him defensively.
This dude is a rookie and my current comp is Ray freaking Allen? I’ve been a Hornets fan forever and don’t miss watching our games. What is this life??
+100000 people were acting like he was Luke Kennard because of the assist % but not watching the actual plays. He collapses defenses and he’s a hell of a screener which is what frees him up. Hes not sitting there waiting for LaMelo to drive and kick and its not like defenders are leaving him on plays like that anymore anyway
Yea I’m thinking this guy could just be SG Steph
Yeah, and to be clear, I’m not saying same peak or whatever. Just his game replicates it so well.
Shooting splits of 49.5⁄44.4⁄84.1 since the team got healthy. These aren’t corner pocket 3s, these are kick-relocate or off the PNP or running through off ball screen 3s lol.
This draft class is one of the best I can ever remember seeing and I’m 45 and have watched hoops since I was a kid.
Then you should remember you should wait a few years before you judge a draft class
Boooo, fun stealer, boooo
Or he can say it’s one of the best since he was 45. Depending on what you judge them on, he could be right.
Kon is one of the most impactful rookies we’ve seen in a long time. If he never improves at all, his rookie season is generational.
If you want to know why I say this, it’s because if we look at Cade, Wembanayama, Paolo, the ROTY for this decade his season is so crazy distinct. He’s playing winning basketball in his first year, and I’m not even saying purely by record.
All these other guys were inneficient, turnover prone, and except for Wemby were huge defensive liabilities.
He’s got their volume while doing so efficiently.
All these other guys could go on to have much greater careers but if you judge a rookie class as production by rookies he may very well be right. It’s amazing. We get Flagg who has a Paolo or Cade like season but even better, and Kon who does things no rookies since the drafting young phenom pre Tim Duncan has done.
This guy may be pretty good.
How did Duke not win it all last year
Harper and Bailey were both on Rutgers and they couldn’t even make the tournament.
I feel like it’s not talked about enough that the Hornets have a rookie who’s moving like prime Klay Thomspon (on offense) as a 20 year old. His game is already so refined, you couldn’t build a more perfect off-ball weapon in a lab if you tried.
Charlotte needs to go after Giannis
Hmm feel like it might be smart to guard this guy behind the 3 pt line…
Future Hall of Famer
This is something teams should look at if they’re near rebuilt, like say core around 23ish years old or older.
If a guys has NBA size, and an NBA ready 3, they will be ready to contribute much sooner than guys who have other skillsets like playmaking and shot creation.
Kon will only have time to expand on his skillset, but he’s a ready contributor now. Something most ROTYs haven’t been this decade.
This is a reply to your comment and not a comparison to Kon. The Lakers felt that way with Knect. Then I don’t know what happened to his shot.
Yeah no doubt. But it is true that they had some success with Knect, at pick 17 you’ll take a year of productivity on a mature team tho.
The Konman
that off ball movement reminds me so much of Curry.
I’m curious if teams will finally start respecting him and sticking to him as hard as they do to Curry
at his size it’s going to be more difficult to slip away the way Curry does, but yeah they are going to have to cover him similarly.
He was playing high school basketball 1 and half years ago
Year 2’s gonna be rough for him
Rookie is a dawg
This will be the guy who will remove the fascination for Steph. A lot putting steph in top 10s will realize that it is not so special anymore.
