Looking at all this love for Kon is amazing. It got me thinking though, what would this guy do for people to start on hating on him, because let’s be honest, he will eventually gonna be hated. Honestly there’s a good case for both players and no one should be upset if either won, but given both production and record, I would be shocked if KK didn’t win.

His efficiency and being one of the key pieces to Hornets run as of late has been really good.

I’ve noticed Kidd loves getting Flagg garbage time reps. In blowouts he’s often putting up 6-8 points in the last 2 minutes when the other team has backups in and not playing defense

I find it funny how all the peeps trying to put Cooper ahead just spams stats, but Kon is literally making the Hornets a contenderish team immediately.

This perspective is completely underrated. I don’t know who is out there rating perspectives. But they rated this one too low.

To be fair, it’s pretty merited in this context.

According to ESPN’s net points metric, Knueppel has contributed 153 points above average on offense this season. No other rookie is above 18.

Sometimes that phrase is meant to convey lack of ambiguity and not actual magnitude of difference. For example there’s no way to argue 99 is bigger than 100 so if you were trying to debate which number is bigger, it’s “not even close” but at the same time they are literally close.

It is a dumb phrase that invites argument because at this point anybody who uses it should know how listeners/readers are going to interpret it though.

i mean, cooper flagg is playing like a generational rookie right now. it’s just that kon is also playing great.

i hope both players end up being generationally great because as it stands right now they are both fun players to watch.

Harper has Wemby/Castle. VJ has Maxey/Embiid. Kon has Lamelo/Miller

I’m not saying I think Coop isn’t going to be that guy, I think he will likely develop into that and that almost any other year he’d be rookie of the year. He’s had an amazing season.

But Kon has had a better one. And had showed up big in so many big time games. This kid is having one of the most insane rookie years we have ever seen. It would be bullshit to give an award based on what we think the future is.

There’s nothing that Flagg has done that really disproves that idea though. He’s still a super young rookie having a great season. Kon may be the frontrunner for ROTY, but I’m pretty sure every GM/ Front office considers Cooper to have the higher upside/ ceiling overall.

Either way, rookie performance doesn’t necessarily translate into being generational (depending on how old a guy is). Giannis was about the same age as Cooper in his rookie season, and he was nowhere near as productive right away. Shai, Harden, Curry etc. are all other guys who weren’t as good as Flagg is now, but are/ will be all-time greats.

What’s crazy is that Coop is living up to the very high expectations we all set for him before the season and is STILL gonna lose ROTY.

Potential and ceiling matter, but immediate impact is more impressive for a rookie. Coop still has that upside, and even for a generational talent it’s perfectly normal to be on a path that’s slower than Kon’s.

Kon is going to win ROTY but let’s be honest if the trade is kon for Flagg the hornets would do that trade ¹¹⁄₁₀ and the mavs (ignoring Nico) hang up every single time. Kon is an elite shooter, but Flagg is a two way foundation of a team and a future face of the league.

I think Flagg would look very different if he had kyrie this season and to play how he has with literally no starting level pg is insane. I can’t believe how good on offense he already is even in a really rough situation.

Awards should be based on performance and narrative not on “potential” and I do think it’s easily Kon at this point for ROTY. But I don’t think anyone would bet on Kon having a better career than Flagg but that’s not the discussion here.

He doesnt get the generational tag because he’s never gonna be more than a 2nd or third option. His potential is Klay Thompson and no one ever really called him a generational player. Historic rookie run though.

It’s rookie of the year though. While I don’t think you can make took deep a judgement just yet, i think nearly any team would still take Cooper over Kon given the chance today if all things are equal.

I have no issues with Kon winning. His 3 point shooting has been crazy, he’s played more games, and they’re on the verge of playoffs and maybe an upset win. Hornets are a good team.

I think if the games played were flipped then it would certainly be Flagg’s to lose. With their per game impact so close, only makes sense to look at games played when the gap is so wide because it’s fair to conclude Kon has had more cumulative impact than Flagg this season.

Genuine question why is VJ Edgecomb not in the conversation at all? He came into the league putting up crazy scoring immediately
