At age 22, Victor Wembanyama is already anchoring lineups with an on-court net rating that surpasses peak seasons from LeBron, Shaq, Kobe and other all time greats, with significant room for team context to improve.
Wemby lineups are currently out scoring opponents by 16.3 pts/100 possessions when on court, in the 58 games he’s played this year.
This is a higher net rating than LeBron, Shaq, Giannis, Kobe, CP3, Harden, Luka, Nash or Kawhi have ever posted in a single regular season. Many of those guys have played with very high caliber players and rosters.
In my view, it’s one of the most absurd achievements in recent memory, and both Wemby and surrounding key players like Castle, Harper, Vassell haven’t peaked yet.
Wemby might genuinely be authoring the most empirically dominant seasons of all time before we know it.
