You have to be pretty naive or ignorant to not see how much Americans are still demanding change. Our system, however, is painfully rigged at this point. The demand for change is like taking a bb gun to an aircraft carrier fleet.

We have 100 senators to represent over 350 million people in one of the largest countries by area as well. We have 435 representatives in the House to effectively represent 350 million people across one of the largest countries by area.

It is incredibly hard to unify a giant, culturally diverse, country such as the US to do something like a general strike. And if we do, many of us are dependent on our jobs for healthcare for our children and spouses and ourselves.

It’s easy to throw stones my friend but it is a lot different to live here and try to be a part of the change.

Many refs are obviously involved in gambling. It’s beyond naive to think that players, who make many times more than the refs, are susceptible to falling into the gambling trap, but somehow refs are immune. This is obviously happening and it makes the league unwatchable at times.

The actual final straw can seem small or insignificant but the actual technical is a cumulative thing. Union protections are strong and unless someone is caught doing something provably corrupt (Tim Donaghy level) they ride out their contract. to me that’s such a bunk argument, that’s an insane number of calls for anyone, and scott as another ref would know likely know when Tim is in a game and if he didn’t he would realise after the 2nd or 3rd voicemail, not the 100th.

Separately, even if he wasn’t involved, they were best friends, he must have had some inkling that Tim was placing bets and if he choose to not act on the information then he’s just as culpable.

IMO he’s definitely as guilty as Tim if not more by now

This is what people don’t understand, there are two huge issues in play:

Evidence of wrongdoing that doesn’t require jumping to a conclusion. There have been suspicious circumstances and relationships, but nothing pointing to him being compensated for his performance or evidence of him agreeing to push a certain outcome.
A union that says “you can’t get rid of someone without a clear and obvious case for wrongdoing.”

Lots of refs are bad. Someone will always be the worst. Corruption is something you have to prove. If you can’t actually prove it, all you can say is “bad ref” and a union will protect those.

The whistle always favored whoever was behind, which for most of the night was the Rockets. Ticky tack fouls called on one end, but then tons of contact allowed at the other end. Then Wolves challenge an offensive foul where Sengun is still clearly moving and it somehow gets upheld. Rockets go up big, then suddenly the whistle starts to go our way. Just the dumbest game I’ve watched since Christmas which was another Scott Foster masterpiece.

The honest answer is that the NBA referee union is incredibly powerful and there is no mechanism to fire a tenured official unless they are literally caught committing a crime. Tim Donaghy went to prison and his close associate (Foster called him 134 times) is still working playoff games two decades later. The league investigates, finds nothing actionable (because the standard is criminal not statistical), and everyone moves on until the next bad game.

Yet all Silver does is trying to hide the issue by talking about something else - tanking. We all know who the tanking teams are, if you buy tickets and you aren’t aware of that, that’s on you. Not officiating. Bad officiating, to put it lightly, or let’s be honest, gambling in some cases, truly makes the game a bad product. It destroys the integrity of the sport. I’m talking about how whenever people mention the details they are downvoted, the details that serve to explain why Foster was never punished nor the investigation reached any conclusion that condemned him.
