You can tell Draymond loves him some Wemby. I respect a lot of what he said here.

I also dont think its talked about enough how hard of a job voting on this stuff is. Draymond made me think about it when he said you have to make them see it.

And Im biased as hell from the standpoint I find people have always underrated defense. So this rant was always gunna be up my alley.

If wemby gets that number 1 seed I can see him getting MVP

Draymond is an asshole but he’s also a basketball genius and one of the greatest defenders to ever live. If he wasn’t such a dick, his story (2nd round pick, revolutionizing the sport, being the 2nd or 3rd most important player on a dynasty) would be undeniable and he’d be adored. But maybe he had to be who he is to achieve all of that, who knows. He’s our generation’s Rodman.

i’m not speaking purely about the MVP race, but there’s been countless ocassions over the years where guys have been overlooked or under appraised purely because it’s so easy to point at certain aspects of someone else’s game and be like “yup, that guy is winning it”. the discussion has been buried in cement before it gets a chance to actually start.

that’s why Draymond had to be so insanely vocal about getting DPOY until he finally won it after Kawhi robbed him of the award in 2015 because a lot of voters were incredibly dumb.

and i’m fully convinced that the race for the 6MOTY award can be swung so easily just by a player saying something to the media about it, or their teammate advocating on their behalf.

and the understated reality that the MVP consensus can be heavily reinforced by a single game winning shot towards the latter half of the season is ridiculous. this has happened so many times and the NBA sphere never seems to acknowledge it.

the media has their darlings they like to run with, and no matter who you are or what you’re doing, you can’t really disrupt or break into the awards zeitgeist of the season until you speak up.

I hate that I’m agreeing with Draymond.

The worst person you know just made a good point.

If DPOY exists and negates argument for MVP then just add an offensive player of the year.

Often times awards are given following ‘the narrative’ instead of looking at who actually deserves it. What’s the narrative and then you can essentially sense who’s going to win it and stuff like voter fatigue contributes to it.

It’s nice having a race where 3 people could win.

Wemby is competitive as hell… saw it during the Olympics finals a couple years ago. Dude has that tier 1 fire that you just can’t teach

The offensive equivalent to what Wemby does on the defensive side of the ball is like averaging 40ppg. If anyone averaged 40 points with 11 rebounds while taking a team predicted to compete for a play-in spot to competing the for the number one seed, there would be no discussion.

I always joke that MVP campaign starts in the offseason because you gotta make people pay attn to you.

It’s also kind of crazy he’s acting like this because Wemby is in the top 5 of MVP discussions before he said anything so I’m not entirely sure what’s he’s really talking about.

The amount of maturity and wisdom required to glaze an opponent like this is wonderful to me. He’s well spoken and makes the case clearly and eloquently.
