I don’t support hitting your kids, but there certainly has to be discipline. It’s insane to me how a lot parents nowadays just let kids do whatever they want in hopes that they will eventually grow out of it. That’s not parenting.

I’m in my 40s and was spanked early on. It became quickly apparent that it was momentary pain, then I’m back to Nintendo. Changed to taking Nintendo away for a week, and I feared that much more without the violence. Kids don’t need to be spanked, just disciplined.

I wasn’t spanked or beat as a kid and I did not turn out to be a brat. My husband was beaten as a kid and he also did not turn out to be a brat.

The difference is, I love and keep in contact with my parents. He does not and has had to deal with the trauma related to his upbringing. Just anecdotal evidence of course, but take of that what you will.

Question - how did a basketball sport talk show end up on the subject of spanking? There’s some kids that were spanked who ended up no good. There are some kids that were gently raised and ended up no good. Sometimes the details of day to day parenting matters more than the specific method.

I worked with the public a lot of years… before that I had no idea how many grown children existed. Some of you are 30, 40, and even 50 years old walking around thinking you can demand you get preferential attention. Some of you think you can lie about others to get what you want. Some of you think you can cry and have public meltdowns to get out of being responsible or to get something you want even though you did not do what you needed to do.

When I see that behavior I immediately know you were given timeouts as a kid. I know your mother forbid your father from spanking you. Or your dad was more interested in being the favorite parent than he was interested in making sure you were going to grow up understanding boundaries and rejection.
