The Hornets now have the 6th highest point differential in the league despite being the 10th seed in the East
That’s pretty impressive honestly
Haven’t they just had a few really huge blowouts or something that’s inflating their differential? Or is that old information at this point?
They’ve had a bunch of massive blowouts but they’ve also consistently taken care of business against bad teams
There are some teams in the top 10 cough Nuggets, Timberwolves, Rockets cough that wish they could routinely beat bad teams by 20+ points
We’ve been taking 4th quarters off in 2026 as much or more than OKC lol. Tre Mann minutes make my day
My Mann!
Did he finally get a jersey in his size?
Baby iverson still exists in all his too many XL glory
His on/off (court attire) is the best in the league
There’s 2.5 games from the 10 seed to the 5, the east is hell
Yeah I feel like the whole “The west is just so much better thing” is pretty overblown tbh. Seems like the bottom of the West playoff picture is actually gonna be all .500 or below teams, and the bottom of the east playoffs is on pace for 43 wins.
East seems a lot more interesting in regard to the non-top 4 teams.
Play-ins in the east will probably be more entertaining.
I really hope that the Hornets make the playoffs.
I feel like the east play in has always been more entertaining than the west, I remember Coby dropping 40 and helping the hawks win the number one pick lol…Wait a min the bulls have helped 2 franchises win the lottery
West in most people’s opinions has the 2 best teams in the league but the east is deeper.
The west is so much better in the sense that my top three contenders (okc, sa, den) are all in the west, and the lakers and twolves are comparable to the top east teams in terms of strength. The bottom of the west is not good (my poor warriors)
Okay look I get not feeling Detroit over the top contenders in the West but they are definitely levels above the Lakers. T Wolves post deadline have an argument for sure.
Nah it’s not a few. They’ve now won 11 games I believe by over 20 points and are currently 2nd ALL TIME (according the stats tonight) in win differential for a season (something like +17.3 points)
It isn’t just a few at this point though. The main thing is that the team went from being close but not quite good enough to start the season when there were lots of injuries, to being much stronger now that they’re healthy.
Yeah I just looked at their recent games on ESPN and every win is a blowout. Kinda wild. The do seem to lose almost all of their close games though. What an interesting team lol
Losing close and winning big is usually a great indicator of a team that’s about to break through
What about when it’s only winning big and losing every close game though? It seems legit enough to me, but curious about the historical results of teams with similar profiles. I wish I was better at knowing where to look for stuff like that.
Well, of the games that ended with a 1-4 point margin, it seems to have improved later in the season:
+2 win 3⁄10 against Trailblazers -4 loss 2⁄19 against Rockets +2 win 2⁄11 against Hawks +2 win 1⁄29 against Mavericks +4 win 1⁄24 against Wizards -2 loss 1⁄8 against Pacers -1 loss 1⁄7 against Raptors -1 loss 1⁄2 against Bucks -3 loss 12⁄7 against Nuggets -3 loss 11⁄23 against Hawks -2 loss 11⁄17 against Raptors -4 loss 11⁄4 against Pelicans -4 loss 10⁄25 against 76ers
That philly/Toronto and Pacers game winner fucked us lol had we just played better defense and or made a better decisions we would have 3 more wins
Young team that isn’t accustomed to actually having a chance to win rough games
Good recipe for success
11 wins by 25+ and 5 by 30+, including today’s 44pt blowout and the 55pt one in January
16 wins by 25+. Last year they only won 19 total games.
I’d rather not play them in the playoffs.
Cmon it’ll be great! Charles is so close with Joe
Hard pass. You guys are going to shock some people in a couple weeks. Happy for you as long as it’s not us!
Yeah I just looked at their recent results and they lose almost every close game and almost every win is a blowout. Kinda crazy, I wonder how common that is cuz it seems sorta anomalous
Celtics in 2023-24 were up by 30 more times then they were down by 10 if I recall correctly. This performance by Charlotte the last few months has been unreal.
were they losing almost all their close games though?
Ahh ok I definitely misunderstood what you were was saying
Yeah that’s the part that makes it stand out so much to me. Not trying to take anything away from them though, they’re a fun story.
Looking at close margin games (1-4 points) since the new year:
+2 win 3⁄10 against Trailblazers -4 loss 2⁄19 against Rockets +2 win 2⁄11 against Hawks +2 win 1⁄29 against Mavericks +4 win 1⁄24 against Wizards -2 loss 1⁄8 against Pacers -1 loss 1⁄7 against Raptors -1 loss 1⁄2 against Bucks
They have gotten better recently, but terrible before that.
I believe we also rank 3rd in games with 20+ 3 pointers made I believe at 13 or 14 we should surpass Boston and warriors if we get 2 more
I know there were injuries but I’m like 70% sure we would be at least the 5th seed rn if we had just started Moussa from day 1.
We also had a bunch of close losses that we completely choked on
I’ll never forget that first pelicans game where we just didnt score for the last 5 minutes and derik queen had 12 7 4 and 3 steals in the 4th qtr lmao.
Nah that philly game game where we just watched Melo dribble the clock and then throws up a highly contested one leg 3 pointer, And that Toronto game where we let me imes get the final shot and he tries a Kobe fadeaway idk what lee what thinking when Kon was good that game, If we didn’t miller back this season man we would have been lottery again
call five 🤙🏼🤚🏼
😶🌫️
Who’s scarier 2026 hornets or bubble suns?
bubble suns were undefeated and immediately became a contender, on the other hand i prefer the hornets
2026 Hornets. Nobody in the East wants to see them in the playoffs. That offense is a buzzsaw
My worry is they just shot like 80 percent from 3 in a game which like could happen
takes notes
Crazy thing about the bubble suns was they went 8-0 & still missed the playoffs iirc.
They just needed the Grizzlies to fall apart just a bit more than the 2-6 record they finished with to be the ones to challenge Portland for the 8 seed
As a Hornets fan, my honest answer is the Zombie Heat
Bubble Suns scarier cuz undefeated. Hornets more entertaining
If anyone actually watch the Hornets, they’re a group of fucking SNIPERS, Lamelo with a filthy quick release, Brandon Miller, altho quite a bit of a chucker, can get hot anyday, Mile Bridges can shoot as well THEN you have Kon, a fricking rookie that plays like a vet.
THEN their bench have Grant Williams, Josh Green, all 3andD guys, even Sion James is developed into a fucking sniper as well.
I truly believe this team could beat any team on a good day, the fact that their whole team from starters to bench can shoot lights out is ridiculous.
Not to mention coby who hit 6 today
Completely forgot about him lol but yeah Colby with more freedom because he doesn’t have to carry the offense as much anymore.
Coby’s such a luxury to have as a bench microwave guy. IMO watching him plenty that’s probably a lesser role than he deserves and that’s a great thing for the Hornets.
He’s a guy you can count on most nights, not just hoping for a spark.
What do they lack to contend?
IMO? Coach, not sure how competent their FO is and while some ppl might think Lamelo doesn’t have that drive to win, I find him just enjoying the game also scary, he can play so freely and with less pressure than other players that psyched themselves out and then can’t perform on the highest stage.
They also lack a true center, I’m not sure how well Diabate could developed into but they probably need someone like Hartenstein, Kessler, JJJ or Duren but to be honest, I would love to see them go full snipers and have a center like KP or KAT lol
They’ve gone 34-20 since their dreadful start. That point differential is about in line with that. It’s just hard to claw out of a ten game hole. They’re better than all but the top four in the East, especially with a bunch of the teams above them playing poorly.
I honestly think they could beat the Pistons if Cade doesn’t play. Not even because I think the Pistons are bad without Cade, I’m just a huge believer in this Hornets team right now.
Boston would be a tough one, but I’m with ya that people are underestimating how scary this team actually is.
Beating the pistons without cade would be expected by most playoff teams in the East. And as beating the Knicks with no brunson or cavs with no mitchell
Mmm.
We started last season 10-15
then went 40-17 to close out the season.
Beware of the Hot team in the playoffs.
The Hornets may have a legit chance at upsetting the Pistons in the playoffs, especially if Cade is rusty after returning.
Pistons are a bad matchup for us. We don’t do prison ball well. Refs watch Lamelo get mugged every time down the court, swallow the whistle, and then hit him with 2 quick ticky tack personals on the other end to begin every game like clockwork.
I agree, but man I would go so wild for that series anyway. If we can only win one series this playoffs, let it be against the Pistons. Give us the chance
Idk we beat them twice last season, Miller was a main factor in both those wins, Game winner and then he had his career high in that OT one
Real question is if they can upset the Celtics
That would be glorious
Tbh Im surprised the Hawks aren’t higher up considering the tear they’ve been on
The whole eastern conference has a really weird distribution that begins with the Sixers as the valley at -.6
It increases going both up and down the standings from there. Hawks/raptors tied at +1.9 at 5⁄6 and then Magic and heat at 8⁄9, +0.9, +2.7 respectively.
Then the hornets are the crown jewel, the hidden 5 seed at +4. After them is a massive drop off with the bucks at -5.6
What does it mean? I don’t know. But it’s exciting
We either win or get blown out by 20 (like last Friday lol) so that’s prob why 😂
Our guys looked super complacent in that game.
I hoped they learned their lesson. OO getting blocked by reed shepard was ridiculous
These aren’t your fathers hornets
Nope, they’re my Hornets, now go to bed son
They’ve been playing at a 60 win pace since the start of the year.
Buzz buzz
As a Celtics fan, I want no part of that shit in the first round.
I am hoping we get:
Celtics - Heat
Cavaliers - Hawks
Pistons - Magic
Knicks - Hornets
When the Hornets win, they win.
The late start for them has been pretty crazy. Feel bad for any higher seeded team going up against them, that’s gonna be a rough first round.
I hope they or the Magic get the Knicks in the first round.
Please adjust for unserious teams like the Kangz and Weezardz.
I didn’t realize we were the only team playing the tankers.
Some teams play the tankers more than others. We had to play the Thunder five times, and only play the Wiz twice. It’s not a balanced schedule.
Damn, that’s crazy. You guys get to play the Mavs/Jazz/Grizzlies/Kings a combined 14 times (and you’ve lost more than one of those games already) while the Hornets only get 8.
Keep cooking
Yeah, there are enough bad teams spread out now.
Uh.. the Wizards and Kings are way worse than the Jazz and Mavs.
Anyway, my only point is that point differential isn’t a great stat. Carry on.
None of them are “way worse” than the others lmao they’re all trying to lose!
Spurs fan hurt itself in its confusion
Spurs fans have been super salty about us lately
Idk if they’re mad they drafted Harper over Kon or what
As long as y’all realize that it’s not a balanced schedule, then s’all good.
Carry on and have a nice day.
My brother in Christ you’ve played more tanking teams than us
Weird hill to die on bro.
Yeah i mean the Hornets have only played the Jazz twice while the Spurs have four times
You play the Grizzlies, Pels, and Mavs 4 times each. That is easier…
Half the league is tanking and a very large portion of those teams are in the west lol
Please figure out how statistics work.
You might want to have a look at each team’s schedule. You’ll discover that each team doesn’t play each other team the same number of times. You are welcome.
For our 3 games against the Hornets, we are -13 in 3 games.
We are 2-1 in those games.
So hornets are +4.33 despite going 1-2 lol
Against the Wizards Hornets are +62 in 4 games
Against the Nets they are +6 in 2 games
Against the Kings they are +52 in 2 games
Against the Jazz they are +78 in 2 games
Against the Grizzlies +38 in 2 games
Against the Thunder +14 in 2 games
Against the Mavericks +29 in 2 games
Against the Bulls +49 in 4 games
So ya. Maybe fine the Jazz for their ridiculous tanking they are doing.
But This Spurs fans point is fair. Hornets are padding a lot on Shitty teams
Lmfao
