[Youtube] Untold: Jail Blazers | Official Trailer | Netflix
My girlfriend is so gonna sit politely while I mansplain the 1999 Trail Blazers while we watch this
This is why god put you in her life. To drop elite ball knowledge on her
“Honey, to understand the story of the Jail Blazers you must first come to know the 1976-77 championship Trail Blazers team led by Bill Walton…“
“ So baby remember that picture of an old man I sent, his name his Harry Glickmen…”
Isn’t mansplaining when you explain something she already knows about? Does your gf have you beat when it comes to ball knowledge
My wife anytime I open my mouth about fantasy basketball:
Just be uh… careful talking about big Ruben lol
How different would the league have been if Sheed had whipped Tim Donaghy’s ass in that parking lot.
Now the league refs have Emirates on their shirt and everything is owned by DraftKings.
Edit: Also wondering how much the doc is going to dig into the pure hypocrisy of tenderhearted white folks pearl-clutching about their ballplayers smoking weed in a city that was already constantly stoned and has turned legal marijuana into a major part of the economy. Probably not a whole lot, though, since Colin Cowherd’s leering botoxed head is here.
It will definitely get into the hypocrisy of the fanbase and it is true to an extent. The weed stuff was blown out of proportion but the team also had a literal sex offender and someone that went on to be convicted of dog fighting. Rookie Zach Randolph had to hide out at Dale Davis’s house because he thought Ruben Patterson would murder him. Jailblazers get sugar coated a lot these days, but any community event they did at that time was a disaster. Disinterest from the players was the best case scenario.
How different would league history be if they hadn’t blown that lead in the 4th quarter vs the Lakers
My roommate Pete would have had his TV for a lot longer, I bet.
Your edit is spot on for many players: Damon, Sheed, namely, who got lumped in with the Jail Blazers. But we also had guys like Qyntel Woods and Ruben Patterson who were legit bad people. Like many things, it’s not just one way or the other.
That is one of the greatest edits I have ever read.
There was another interview with Sheed talking about wanting to fight Walton at a game. Wonder what that would have done to the franchise.
They woulda talked some shit and then smoked out, most likely
If there was one person who wasn’t really a fighter it’s Bill Walton, especially retired Bill Walton. Want to smoke up and listen to the Dead and wax poetic about Boris Diaw or ride comically large road bikes? He’s your man. But fight? No need for all that negative energy
Sheed said it was because Walton talked shit about him getting being a pothead.
Unfortunately the DARE, anti drug craze was just as real here.
“If we don’t win the game, let’s win the fight”
Holy cow, I love that lool. April 14th, I’m there
Like every episode of Shoresy
I hate that canzano is involved in this, dude a fucking troll and consistently painted the blazers in the worse possible light.
Bonzi wells must have been banging his wife or something to hear him angrily confront young black men to their face about smoking weed.
Which is so quaint these days, with the nba finally stopping pretending to care about weed use
Yeah he should be one of the villains in this.
I can’t imagine he won’t be, he’s likely only there to tell the story about wanting to hold a cup of Stoudamire’s hot piss in his grubby little hands
Clownzano is always bad guy when it comes to jailblazers.
I wasn’t expecting a documentary about this era of the Blazers, but I welcome it of course.
Sadly, it doesn’t look to have anything on Ruben Patterson or Qyntel Woods who did far more horrible things than any of those three.
Would be much more interested if it wasn’t under the Untold brand. These docs have been absolutely terrible.
I’m torn. I loved their docs on the Danbury Trashers, Gilbert Arenas gun shit, and Malice at the Palace…but their docs on Johnny Football, Florida football, and Steve McNair were pretty terrible.
Fingers crossed it won’t suck.
Sounds like you have a 50⁄50 chance either way.
Those last 3 you mentioned were terrible and probably ruined it for me. Not to mention the way they scuttled the Prince documentary. I don’t have much faith in Netflix documentaries
Should be interesting
This has the feel of a 30 for 30. What happened to that series?
30 for 30 was an ESPN thing. Simmons said it was the doc he wanted to do more than any other topic and the execs shut it down in about 1.2 sec.
hell yeah, as an oregonian and fan of the blazers at that time i can’t wait for this
The Jailblazers were a truly scary team that was stacked with talent. I remember during that 1999-2000 season, it was believed that either they or the Lakers were going to win the chip at the end. There was a point late in the season where, if my memory’s correct, both teams were something like 48-19, something ridiculous like that, with identical 9 game win streaks, and faced each other. The Lakers ended up winning the game and eventually the title. If the Blazers didn’t end up bricking like 13 straight shots int he 4th quarter of game 7 of the WCF, they would have been the ones coming out of the West.
First day of law school, I was making small talk while talking about different eras of NBA teams with people I just met. I got accused of being racist for referring to them as the “Jail Blazers.” So the nickname, even if widely used, makes me cringe to this day.
