[Highlight] Wembanyama dominates with 26 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 lob dunks in 26 minutes
This is no coincidence. David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Wemby. Derrick White needs to investigate this.
He’ll say Wemby isn’t real
Jaylen Brown already said that he’s the best human two way player and Wemby doesn’t count because he’s an alien (or Fr*nch)
Bro as a Celtics fan would you happen to know of Derrick and Jaylen get into constant arguments about life? Since Derrick said he doesn’t believe the moon landing is real and Jaylen is like a genius
Jaylen Brown believes in astrology and zodiak signs. He’s just as dumb as Derrick White 💀
Oh, well I’ve got no follow up to that.
Astrology is the dumbest shit
My astrology readings on yahoo in the early 2000s amounted to nothing. Astrology is dumb as shit.
The word youre looking for for Jaylen Brown is pseudointellectual. Im sure they get along splendidly
Thanks, that’s a pretty good way to describe that.
They’re just coworkers bro
i’m just here to ork the cows
No he’ll say Wemby is probably real but he doesn’t believe in him.
“That motherfucker back there is NOT real”
I’m inclined to agree with him on this one topic.
We got rid of Derrick White because he would’ve exposed the conspiracy from the inside
Megamind had to be kicked out, he started figuring things out…
he should’ve stopped at 20 points to honor bam’s average ppg this season
That was a nasty line by you
Some would say the nastiest. Heard it bowlth ways, B
Psych reference?
Edit: Nvm Brendan Schaub reference it seems
And “that was a nasty line by you” is a Chael Sonnen reference. Legendary press conference with Tito Ortiz
Got the Chael one.
“I’ve heard it both ways” is one of many catchphrases that the main character of Psych uses
Wishful thinking to think I caught a reference in the wild
You know that’s right
Heard about Pluto?
I love how the NBA gifts the spurs a generational big everytime they’re bad
Honestly? Same.
Yeah I love it too.
Thank god they go to an organization that can actually develop them and help them maximize their potential.
Why do good things keep happening to good people?
Don’t worry - they don’t.
That explains the thunder.
Tell me you just started watching the nba
Nah thunder haters have existed for a long time AMA
Please exmpline one period of time when they were hated by the majority of the league prior to chip and I’ll give you a cookie.
who said anything about the majority. I just was saying there’s fans who don’t like the thunder
Ok what caused the hate that “existed for a long time”?
playoff series going back a decade+ ?
When Clay Bennett took the team to OKC.
It’s because of Popovic.
Wow Spurs have been great in the last decade, but never forget the Bruce Bowen era. I wouldn’t necessarily call Spurs the good people 🤣.
It’s like the Patriots being bad for a second and then end up in the superbowl again.
How did the Patriots end up with pick #199
With Timmy they weren’t even bad… they just had an injury season if I recall correctly.
We were in danger of falling off the radar, with DRob’s aging and back injury. The basketball gods saw this, and thankfully stepped in.
I love how every hyped top 5 pick works out for the Spurs when other orgs repeatedly end up with underachieving “generational” prospects. Almost like there’s a pattern there….
Duncan, Robinson, and Wemby would dominate on any team and be extremely successful lol
Where’s your proof that they would’ve succeeded anywhere? We have proof of other hyped prospects Zion, KAT, Wiggins, Ayton, Paolo, AD straight up floundering to underachieving relative to talent/draft day expectations. That’s proof to the contrary. Or do you think Minnesota/NOLA always end up with “generational” prospects destined to fail, and the Spurs pick with the similar level of hype just magically gets lucky every time?
KAT, Ayton, and Paolo were not generational prospects by any means. KAT has lived up to expectations roughly, and Paolo isn’t too far behind them. AD and Zion (esp. AD) have been great when healthy, though I am dissapointed Zion hasn’t improved his game more, he basically plays the same as he did when he was a rookie. Alton and Wiggins are the only “busts” on this list, even then Wiggins is an all star and NBA champion
Duncan and Robinson were both 4-year college players, so they were much more known quantities than a lot of these guys that come out after 1 year. Wemby was already a phenom in the European leagues.
I love how the NBA
What is there to be mad about?
Doing all this in 26 minutes cheat code
And there’s a good section of basketball “fans” that will say appreciating his game and effort is glazing lmao if you really love basketball, you should be in awe of this man is capable of.
Should be #2 in the mvp ranking at least. No idea how Luka apparently hopped him just because of a hot stretch
Cause 60 points
Cause LA
This is such a dumb thing, in the last 35 years a Lakers player has won it two times.
I’m talking about just the Lakers being pushed in the mainstream media. There’s no denying they get pushed way more than any other teams
all you people do is whine about how bigger markets obviously get more press than smaller ones. that will never change, get over it.
if wemby was on the lakers he’d be getting Kareem level treatment, no fucking shit
Yes we know, that’s what is being pointed out. The idea is that good players should get pushed no matter what “tv market” they play in, because if preference in awards and sponsorships are given to those in larger markets, players will prefer to go to those larger markets, thus making “super teams” that make the sport more boring (parity is a good thing).
there hasn’t been a repeat champion since 2018. nothing you’re talking about has happened or is happening
Never said repeat mvp. In the last 35 years any Lakers player has won the award twice. Kobe once and Shaq once.
There is no LA bias
i agree
Shaq and Kobe, both in championship years. No MVPs after the first chip of the 3peat due to losing out both years to this guy LeBron James.
Ever heard of him?
Thirty-Five years bro, lmfao
Nash’s 2nd is probably the only one up for debate in the entire 35 years. Go take a look.
The point is, he said players get higher mvp votes because LA.
When the reality is an LA player has only won 2⁄35.
There is no “LA favoritism” for the mvp award.
Nah, we just lost and Luka had a subpar game. Luka is back to being the 37th in the MVP ranking.
Wemby should get it though and I don’t want to diminish SGA, who is ridiculously good. Just that Wemby is the best defensive player I’ve seen.
I think the most surprising thing to a lot of people is that he is way ahead of schedule. He wasn’t supposed to be this good for another few years. Same for the Spurs. All the “experts” had this happing in year 5 or so
Thats what people not understanding hes 22 years old lmao
I was expecting play ins this year, not the 2 seed.
Last year was our play-in season, cut short with the blood clot 😎
Wemby was expecting 6th seed so you’re not far off
I actually think he would be a menace at year 5. Can’t complain when he exceed the schedule lol.
Went to the game to see Wemby for the first time in person. He made about 6 plays I didn’t think were physically possible. I still don’t know how he was able to maintain balance and not fall down when he got his own putback dunk in the 4th.
I can’t imagine how his second block on Powell looked like in person. Or him catching the transition pass one handed and passing a bullet straight to Fox then getting a lob.
I still don’t know how he was able to maintain balance and not fall down when he got his own putback dunk in the 4th.
It’s because the medical staff around him (both from the Spurs and his own personal staff) focuses on building his stamina and flexibility, rather than strength.
They understand that Wemby doesnt need to bulk up or be stronger, he needs to be more “bendy” and “damage resistant”
I dont like it, but dont feel like Im allowed to complain about draft lottery luck lol
You guys drafted LeBron tho
Thats what Im saying
Wemby is the most impactful player in the world
And he is still only 22, his offensive game will get even better.
On D for sure, not offense though. I’d give that one to Shai
Offense is much better as well he opens up everything for his guards look at the offensive rating when hes in the court vs off not everything is points
Feel like that has more to do with rotations. Someone probably has the data with the type of lineups he plays with
Look at net rating when he plays vs when he doesnt they become an average team and a negative defensively.
How does that dispute my point at all lmao
What do you mean? When he literally hasnt played in games at all their net rating takes a nosedive that has nothing to do with lineups hes in.
Check out other starters. Are you saying they have negative net ratings? Lmao
Of all Spurs lineup combinations with >35 minutes together over the season, every lineup with Wemby has a higher net rating than every lineup without him. The worst Wemby lineup is 4.3 points higher than the best non-Wemby lineup.
sure, SGA, luka & Jokic are all relatively better at offense. But Wemby’s offensive impact is way bigger than his numbers. I could add a few stats but just watch the game. he creates a paranoia in the defense that fucks up their rotations.
The gap between how much better the other guys are on offense vs how much better Wemby is on defense is not remotely similar, either. Which IMO makes him the most impactful player in the league.
Wemby is the best player in the league, he just needs a solid playoff run to prove it
He’s not the best in the league but he’s top 5.
He is and has proved it all season.
SGA is and has proved it all season.
Y’all remember the NBA Action series and their weekly Top 10 countdown?
It’s crazy to think Vic could fill an entire week’s Top 10 by himself in one game. I’ve seen MJ, Shaq, Lebron, Kobe and Curry in their primes, but Vic is providing highlights ive never seen before lol, dude is absurd.
Username checks out. Also, it’s not fair because Wemby can generate defensive highlights too, he gets two times the amount of highlight material!
Dude hes a monster, I have never seen anything like this how is he so mobile at 7’5
I’m still in disbelief watching him play.
I watch ANY Spurs game to catch a glimpse of his impact. Even his bad games, and there aren’t many, you can see him working through things, trying, testing. Even that is amazing to watch. But when he’s on, like last night, it is wondrously beautiful, and reminds me of when I watched MJ evolve. Wemby is singlehandedly influencing every game in multiple ways, and he is surrounded by a team that believes in the system. Believes they can do it as a group. Spurs ball is the only one to watch if you want exciting, fun, basketball. Period
This fuckery will continue for the next 15 years too.
Lob dunks are a statline now? Don’t get me wrong he’s incredible… but really?
Its a much better stats than nitpicked stats like n “nth points, nth rebounds, nth assists, nth 3 points made since 1992”
Wemby does all this in less than 30 minutes. Where are the stat geeks at when you need them.
No, never mind. Stay exactly where you are. My eyes have shown me what I need to see
Yeah but even if you add that up , it’s not eighty three , so it don’t matter
But can he average 30?
He’s insane but do we really need to stat pad the headline with “4 lob dunks”
How about a series of GPK with NBA players. I imagine one of White with half a huge tooth into the wood.
That’s not 83 points tho.
Lob dunks are not a stat that needs to be on the statline, lmao
The new statistic “lob dunks”
If you have an opportunity to watch Wemby play in person, you must.
He is a moon landing denier !!?? Guess I’ll take White out of my PC. No more magnetic slab for you my friend.
Not even a triple double. Isaiah Hartenstein had better stats than this just a couple nights ago.
So the guy with a worse record than Shai, doing way less on offense with worse efficiency than Shai, is mvp?
I have sga as the mvp but let’s not act like Wemby isn’t a billion times better than shai when it comes to defense as much as you want to point out their gap offensively
If Shai was also a 7 footer that would mean more but he’s not. Hes a guard who is much better defensively than virtually every other high scoring guard in the league. Offense will always trump defense
MVP isn’t the best pound for pound player or best for their frame, it’s just best player. Wemby being 7’5 makes him nonsensically good on defense. That doesn’t get taken away because “Shai isn’t 7 feet tall”.
Guards can’t create the same value defensively as bigs. Saying Wemby is better on defense is obvious, but comparatively to his position Shai is quite good. Compared to other elite offensive creators he’s very good. Much better than Luka or Jokic compared to what they could be doing at their size. That’s the only point I was making.
Guards can’t create the same value defensively as bigs.
Value, you say? Where else does that word, or a similar one, appear in this discussion?
The original comment was about the mvp, value is literally in the name home boy
i believe you are experiencing cognitive dissonance
Exactly.
Right so not being able to create the same value on defense worsens the case for MVP right?
SGA was top 10 in DPoY voting the last two years
That’s a funny way to say he was (tied for) 10th. Didn’t make an all defensive team or receive any first place votes. Not that he’s a slouch on defense at all, but he’s not even close to Wemby on defense just line Wemby isn’t close to him on offense
He was 7th one of those years bud. Check basketball reference if you think I’m lying
Two years ago with no first place votes. Like I said, not close to Wemby.
Wemby isn’t the mvp. Get over it
I didn’t say he was, I’m not the one trying to pretend Shai getting a handful of non-first place DPOY votes makes him anywhere close to the defender Wemby is
Wemby might just be one of the the greatest defensive players of all time
Wemby about to be unanimous DPOY. This is like Steph’s 2016 MVP. Whole lot of ground between 1st and 2nd.
Honestly Shai should probably win it unanimously
Anyone who frequents the Thunder sub as a fan has zero value to their opinion regarding this, as does Spurs, Denver, or Lakers fans when making a case for their team’s candidate.
You’re right, the perpetually online box score watchers on this sub are much more qualified
He’s definitely one of the best human defenders
Yea
The guy whos the best offensive player on the second seed projected for the playin. While also being the greatest defense monster we have ever seen is yes the mvp
[deleted]
23-59 the last two games and should’ve lost both 😳
Its all good Wemby is not gonna win. They wanna make this a debate so badly because theirs nothing else to talk about. SGA will win and pretty easily
