Even if a team has all their players listed as available, if you are having rotations being scrambled that have been worked on all season you are inevitably working through adjustments too. We haven’t been able to have a consistent lineup all season. The game we won we beat the spurs while they were healthy but we were still massively injured. Then our last game we actually had it close until the end, and we had 8 dudes active. None of which were our starters. 3 of them were our two ways. What conclusions can be drawn here? Nothing. The regular season record doesn’t matter. We have learned and been able to adjust and will be able to have a team that is ready to gameplan for just the series opponents ahead. The spurs are good, but to just crown them for beating OKC 3 times in December of a season is nuts.

To note: in December we were still in a major funk because our number 2 guy was coming back from an injury and reaggravating it ultimately. If you can’t extrapolate how injuries affect a team past just literally being listed as active or not, that’s on you.

Spurs as a whole are significantly better shooters and have MUCH better rim penetration outside of both teams stars. We also are heavily unbalanced defensively to our guards and bigs. It’s wings that we aren’t equipped to handle. This is however a perfect counter to okc. We’re deeper than them in almost all of the ways that tend to matter for playoff success. I’m not gonna pretend that we’re runaway favorites since it’s the first year in the playoffs for this core, but this is about as well as you can matchup with a team that just won it all.

Not true, this season spurs have a higher offensive net rating and a slightly lower defensive rating. OKC is highest in net rating, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Spurs are highest since all star break, and they could maybe pass OKC in season net rating by end of season, as they have a very easy schedule left.

I would personally have him mvp, all due respect to the other guys having great seasons. What he does on defense is stupid.

And he’s a better offensive player than his stats give him credit for. He takes the opposing teams bigs out of the defense because they have to stay attached to him in a way that no other center can do. If they lose contact with him around the rim, it’s a lob dunk and they have to stay attached on the perimeter because he’s a 3 point shooter. this gives those pitbull guards wide open lanes and so much freedom.

the stuff that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet with him is wild and I think he’s the best player in the league right now. I also like that he’s 4-1 against the best team in the league, okc.

I think this is why we play the Spurs well. KAT isn’t good helping and rim protecting but is good 1v1 so him being pulled away from the paint isn’t a big deal. We can play their guards fine and/or other players will help in the lane but we sometimes give up open 3s then (which the Spurs don’t shoot that well).

I personally love how the NBA is a game of matchups. A team like OKC struggles more with SAS while the Knicks don’t. Then on the flip side the Knicks have a hard time with OKC.

I care if his skills and abilities translate in a playoff setting, where physicality is higher than ever, teams are scouted and schemed to stop what you do best, and weaknesses are exploited to the maximum degree. Maybe he’s great in the playoffs, maybe he struggles. It won’t define his legacy (unless they win it all ofc), but it’ll be interesting to see what parts of his game work and what doesn’t.

Contrary to what you may think, he’s not a god. He will have his ups and downs, and the great players eventually figure it out. We’ll see if he does.

Edit: btw the best Age 22 season of all-time either belongs to Shaq or LeBron, who both made the finals.

I have to ask. Do you watch his games? Teams literally game plan for him every single matchup. He gets triple to quadrupled teamed regularly. Teams almost never let him go one on one with one of their players.

You question his ability to handle the physicality, yet teams have been playing him extremely physical all year. His matchup vs the pistons shows how he handles the physicality. His arms and shoulders are covered in so many scars from this season it’s kinda crazy to see.

He’s proven your points in the regular season. To say that will not transfer over into the playoffs when intensity picks up is certainly a hot take. I’ve been watching the NBA for a long time, it’s extremely rare for a player that performs well all season as the main franchise guy (not role players & not players who just had a breakout in the season) to just disappear in a series.

Regular season and playoffs aren’t officiated the same way and in the playoffs the game is played slower and more in the halfcourt. I just don’t think Wemby is there yet offensively and gets pushed out of position too much to be able to perform at a high level in the playoffs. Combine that with playoff inexperience from their core guys I just don’t see them making a lot of noise this year in the postseason similarly to when OKC overachieved in 2023-2024.
