At the same time, the coach is responsible for the culture, for the effort, the coach can certainly determine what the pre-game routine will be like etc.

With an absolutely stacked roster perfectly fit for his defensive philosophy. Tbh the team was loaded with long wings together with a DPOY big man and a good point guard defender. Afaik Udoka also seems completely allergic to playing any player that might weaken his team’s defensive stats.
The metric of a good coach isn’t if the defense does good when the team is stacked defensively, its how they handle the defense when a player that may not be a top defender needs to get on the court for different reasons, like jump starting the offense.
Udoka is horrible at that, as he simply banishes anyone that doesn’t make his defense look amazing. He also sucks at developing any type of offensive system. The lack of offense completely killed the Celtics against the Warriors and again last year in the playoffs.
Edit: It is absolutely insane that the reply saying the 21-22 Celtics are not stacked is being upvoted. Has anyone even checked their roster? They were one of the top 3 most talented rosters to start the year and many commentators had them making a deep playoff run

I’ve never seen anybody gamble so hard so consistently. Dude will try to steal it at the 3pt line, miss, and somehow end up at the logo. Takes himself out of the play and any follow up actions. We’re constantly scrambling trying to rotate or send help.
Also he is incapable of not reaching. Even Sengun had a moment where he had to ask Reed what the hell he was doing when they had a Bull trapped on the baseline and Reed hacked him late in the 4th.
His gambles are worth it. Steals are underrated and he’s an excellent shot blocker for his size.
