He has the highest true shooting percentage over 30 ppg in a season if he can keep up the efficiency.

Lots of these big men (Wemby, Clingan, Bam, Ware, Okongwu) are taking a good number of 3s, to the point that their shot diet is not that much different from that of a forward/guard.

Okongwu shoots 5 threes a game. Hes almost never in the dunker spot like traditional big men.

Hes pretty efficient for what his shot diet actually is.

Bam and OO are slightly misleading. Bam is attempting 5 threes per game and around 40% of Okongwu’s shots are from 20 feet or further away from the basket.

Shai’s shot diet sits right around 50% for him driving to the basket and shots within 5 feet and only about 22% of his shots come from the 22-28 ft range.

SGA is shooting above average from almost everywhere on his shot chart, but it’s misleading to compare his percentages against bigs when so many of them on that list stretch the floor and take such a high percentage of their shots from deep in this era.

The guard shooting better big man narrative has to stop. Not just for shai but every guard. More bigs are becoming jump shooters. They are not just lob threats anymore.

But also no need to include Sabonis on here; dude played 19 games this season and was injured for basically all of them. He’s shot 59-60% the prior 3 seasons

AD also only played 20 games, but he did only shoot 52% last year, so I guess its not quite as egregious. Still he was injured too, and you could’ve made the point without mentioning either of those dudes

The top 10 leaders in TS% are all centers around 65-67%, with the average TS% amongst all centers being 61%

Except for Shai. He’s the only one in top 10 TS% that isn’t a center

I mean, the shot charts for big men and guards is pretty much identical in the modern game.

He’s having a fantastic year, but saying he’s shooting better than a lot of big men has never had so little relevance as it does today where you have 7 footers attempting more 3s than post ups.

When misses become free throws, it happens.

Shai is an elite scorer and very efficient. That being said, the high efficiency of centres is normally when a centre isn’t the primary scoring option.

Like Wemby was Spurs best catch and shoot 3pt shooter for most of the season and had 2 guards who shot under 25%. He shoots more 3s a game than SGA. I am sure there is a similar story for the rest of these bigs, except Sengun who just sucks. Fuck Sengun.

Aside from the fact that 9 of those twos are jumpers, only 19 percent of those shots are assisted.

Curry as far as I know is still the only player to record a 30pt+ 50/40/90 season. He actually pulled 50/45/90 which is insane.

SGA this season is currently sitting at 31.6pts on 55/39/89.

He’s been on pace to do the inverse of Steph’s season with the first ever 30pt+ 55/40/90 season but is going to fall just short by the looks.

He is however on pace to end up around the same TS% as Steph had in that god like shooting season.

Pretty insane for a guard who lives on a steady diet of one of the least efficient shots in the game in turn around / fade away middies.
