This could easily be the Wizards next year if AD and Trae stay hurt, Sarr, Coulibaly, Tre Johnson, and others continue to have nagging injuries or regress, and Keefe remains head coach.

They’re done hard tanking after this year and could take a step forward, but there are just so many question marks. It’s so hard to know what you actually have when you’ve never seen most of your guys play in competitive NBA games with real rotations and roles that are appropriate for them.

Since the Simons, yes. Those early 80s teams before Sam Nassi sold to the Simons were awful because he was tanking to trade the draft asset for nearly nothing and drafting guys that couldn’t even win against Big Ten competition so no wonder they were only winning 20-26 games/ year.

The Pacers as the original tank team are why we have a lottery in the first place (and not a coin toss that they lost three years in a row although Portland already owned the ‘84 pick.)

Turners big advantage is his name and salary. Take away their names and look at what they actually do, there really isn’t much of a difference.

I don’t have a problem with them tanking, it just gets annoying that they’re never talked about as a tanking team, they get an injury excuse.

We’ve seen a team lose their top guy to the same injury as the pacers’ top guy, had to strip their team down to the bones, pick up a bunch vet mins guys, and theyre sitting as the 2nd seed in the east.

A team that was 48 mins away from a title should have enough where they’re not sitting at the bottom of the league.

Unfortunately this is pretty baseless because they were crazy injured to start the year, so even if they wanted to be competitive it’s not like they had much of a choice after the first third of the year. Jones got hurt before camp. TJ got hurt in a preseason game. Andrew got hurt in game 2. Mathurin got hurt in game 3. Plus Tyrese: That’s five of the six guards (although Sheppard is always “iffy” as the 3&D guy that neither shoots nor defends at a high level) at the top of the depth chart. Not even factoring any front court injuries.

We were signing Max McClung to replace Cam Payne from the very beginning.

The Pacers intended to show that only missing Tyrese wasn’t enough to knock them out of the playoffs but they were so injured over the first month of the season that it became pointless.

They didn’t choose the tank the tank chose them.
