That injury came at a bad time. He was unbelievable before the injury. Even in the Miami game, the game he actually got injured, he was heating up. Just a shame it’s taken this long to really get back into full flow. Could be a blessing in disguise though. Jokic and AG having not played every game, so coming into the playoffs fresh. The whole nuggets team apart from Murray should really be fresh going into the playoffs. They’ve all had extended amounts of time out apart from Jamal. Might make the difference ina. That’s not true. EPM is the most quoted impact stat on here and Shai leads it, but Shai doesn’t have a monopoly on impact stats.

Here’s a list of impact stats, actually, rank based on minimum 50 games played:

EPM: shai (9.3, 1st), Jokic (8.4, 2nd), wemby (8.1, 3rd)

LAKER: Shai (9.7, 1st), Jokic (9.6, 2nd), Wemby (7.5, 4th)

DARKO DPM: Jokic (7.3, 1st), Wemby (6.2, 2nd), Shai (6.1, 4th)

Also, on/off excluding low leverage minutes and filtered for garbage time is quite close between Jokic and wemby with Jokic leading (data ballr, cleaning the glass) but Wemby leads comfortably when including those low leverage/garbage time minutes.

Let me finish by saying though that the nuggets have not looked as good as the spurs or thunder (record is strongly against Jokic) and neither has Jokic to finish the season (weighted more for voters), and he already has 3 mvps so that counts against him. There is no way he wins mvp at this point. But I thought it worth ensuring all the statements are accurate to the data.

I don’t think he has been better than SGA post-injury when you factor in the defense. He and Murray are a big reason why the Nuggets have been piss-poor defensively all year. He’s also been very sloppy on offense since returning from the knee injury. Too many turnovers and missed 3s. He’s also not operating in the post nearly enough. He’s just not close to the elite level he was playing in the first half of the season

I’m just hoping he’s just trying to preserve himself and will turn up on both ends of the floor by the playoffs
