high usg% =/= heliocentric and vice versa. If you are a major play maker (like lebron) your usg% necessarily will drop since you’re getting assists not field goals.

Jokic has always had a relatively low usg% even when one of our beat writers describes our offense as orbiting around Jokic’s “doughy resplendence” (lol) because he is a pass first player.

I wouldn’t say anyone is really an outlier right now. Multiple guys are at his tail in usage and we see he doesn’t top time of possession (which imo is really the most important metric). Is he the most heliocentric rn? definitely. But not at an outlier rate that he and harden used to operate at.

It’s as biased towards turnovers as it is towards assists, field goals, and free throws. Maxey just doesn’t top any of those metrics, it’s not just turnovers obviously

It can however be sometimes the best option a team has, ‘18 Cavs comes to mind instantly, particularly in the playoffs, i’m sure Lebron’s usage rate was off the scale. He much would rather have had the ‘16 or ‘17 Cavs and drop his usage rate but with the tools he had that was their best way of winning games.

MJ led the league in usage rate in 5 of the 6 seasons he won the title, and retired as the all-time leader in usage.

So it’s a balance.

Well yeah, everyone knows the Lakers roster is flawed and their bench is ass. It doesn’t reflect badly on Luka, it reflects poorly on the roster construction. The Bucks have also had to rely on Giannis to carry many times. Notice the 23-24 Mavs aren’t on here, that’s because it was the best iteration of that team and Luka didn’t have to carry them as much as before.
