[Highlight] Jalen Green takes 4 steps catching the ball on the inbound, goes uncalled
just using 4 of his 15 gather steps
The gather step rule has gotten so out of hand it’s basically a travel loophole now.
Now? I remember it being a huge problem since I tried to get into basketball when I was a kiddo.
Adam silver ruins the league
I see no wrong there. He applied the rule of gather step there. He cough the ball firmly with 2 hands, then proceeded to walk to the nearest Target before starting the dribble.
Gotta admit, that’s a pretty generous interpretation of the gather step. Might as well have grabbed a shopping cart on the way to the basket.
Excuse me, this is basketball. Per the rules, he’s only allowed to grab the shopping basket otherwise it’s a travel.
Yeah, that’s really bad. It’s not even one of those where it doesn’t provide an advantage. His man was chasing him down and if he had to dribble earlier it might’ve been stolen.
Clips like this crack me up because, playing as a kid, you got called out for traveling so fast if you even thought about taking a 3rd step. Now these guys play in front of millions of people with professional refs watching and they get to take 4 steps on the ref. Makes no sense to me
Games gone.
It’s actually kinda funny how “players are better now” but have almost none of the rules to follow in comparison to the guys playing before them.
They can run faster now because there is no rules to make them to slow down during catch. Lots of jump shots are travelled too. They have to shuttle their feet in order to get better balance.
Remember when Marčiulionis got called travel everytime he did eurostep? Not you wont get travel call even if you catwalk in front of the ref.
Makes me feel like an unc but I agree.
Seriously, that extra space let him build momentum and completely changed the angle for the defender. Just a brutal missed call in a key moment.
Luckily, the ball didn’t lie.
This was after the refs calling an offensive foul on Vassell for an offensive rebound that happens 10+ times a game
Also not long after they called a palming travel on wemby and then ighodoro did the same the very next play after and they didn’t call it
One of the nastiest one handed rebounds in a while
In Australia we call that a specky
The inconsistency is what kills me. They’ll call the softest touch fouls then miss something this obvious.
As the basketball gods would say, the sphere speaketh no falsehood.
“the orb” works better
Thank you for this
Refs had money on the game but Wemby said fuck you watch this
I can go to bed happy knowing some refs lost money tonight
Wemby’s block was so ridiculous it basically overruled the refs’ wallets.
Bruh we NEVER get calls against the Suns. I always hate playing them because I know we’re going to be 5 on 8 most of the game.
Really frustrating when they called a carry earlier on Wemby
Giannis: First time?
It’s been like this for ages
Refs need to be interviewed post game cause they were dicking the spurs all night.
When have they been ever held accountable?
Refs were really on something there…
“but it’s a gather” some kid is going to tell me…
Well it is a travel but I can guess the argument for not a travel. His first left should be seen as Step 1 since he catches it with his right still down—but at game speed, a ref could also reasonably say he’s not fully gathered yet and treat that first left as part of the gather. If that’s the case, then he legally gets two steps after it. the second of which (his left) stays planted, there’s some slippage which could also be considered a travel but it seems his toes stay fixed to the court. Now he is moving with forward velocity, but I believe it is arguable he comes to a stop and has established his pivot before his next right step, his non pivot foot then goes the opposite direction.
However at the end of the day it looks like a travel at game speed so it should be called and not based on technicalities. This reminds me a lot of Grayson Allen’s weird step back step through from a couple weeks ago which Richard Jefferson said was legal allegedly.
Are you actually saying if he was running to the hoop in this video that he would be able to take these 4 steps, take one dribble, and then get FOUR MORE STEPS?
Because I’m almost positive that is not how it works at all.
I was expecting this to be a boomer complaint about a slight travel but this is insane lol
Yeah the vast majority of people complaining about travels are just wrong, this is not one of those.
I think this might be worse than that infamous Westbrook one vs the warriors
Spurs & breaking Suns fans hearts in this 1 sided rivalry
name another iconic duo
ps- Robert Horry did nothing wrong
You’re the only one talking about a rivalry here
Tim Donaghy and David Stern
Okay hell no, Robert Horry absolutely did something wrong, he smashed Nash’s nose in on a dirty play, that’s literally just what happened
Horry didn’t do anything to Nash’s nose. You’re thinking of Tony Parker and Nash’s collision in game 1. If you come that hot, try to get the facts remotely correct.
My bad, it was a hip check that led to his busted-up nose
Thats not a travel………..
THATS A FUCKING VACATION
Bro took a plane out of the middle east.
lol how does the league allow this?
It speeds up the game and increases offense. 75% of travel/carry doesn’t get call these days.
Sengun wouldve had his arms up signaling touchdown
That’s a travel
Refs definitely all had money on phoenix
This happens all the time.
I wish they’d call it, but it’s just one of those things the NBA choses to ignore.
Centuries later, dribbling will no longer exist, and Nephews will argue that their generation takes more skill to compete than today’s game.
its a gather /s

That’s not how gather step works. Gather step means the foot that is already on the ground at the time control is gained doesn’t count as a step. His right foot was down, so his first step was the left foot. If you want to argue the very last step was just a pivot, it still doesn’t matter because it was 3 steps before that
Yeah people in this thread got me thinking im crazy. I get the argument for a travel, but it’s very close and not egregious at all. Of travel calls to complain about this is not one. At it’s worst it’s a one extra step travel. This thread would have you thinking it’s 3 extra steps
Shh don’t use any critical thinking in this sub, you must agree with the others for fake Internet points!
Superstar call for my goat
That wasn’t a gather, it was a harvest.
His inbound gather steps
holy fucking shit. i saw him travel and then i was going full dj khaled - another one, another one, another one
Thry never call these travels before starting the dribble.
Yea but you guys get to have an 8ft player with handles and shoots 3s sooo…
Bro needs a passport with all the traveling
Maybe I’m tripping but I only see 3 steps after the ball hits his hands? I’m not super well-versed in the gather-step rule but if that first step off the catch counts as a gather I don’t actually think this is a travel in the NBA
Travel on any other court in the world lmao but I feel like this isn’t that crazy for the modern NBA
We really doing this? Could easily post the numerous missed calls that the Spurs got away with.
Refs tried to gift suns the game 😂
Now post the clip where wemby headbutts oso and oso gets called for a foul
you know what, that was bs too, the refs were garbage all around and completely ruined the flow of the game multiple times
Stfu. The refs tried so hard to make suns win. 💰💸💵🤑
