In tonight’s game against the Heat LeBron has now tied Robert Parish’s record for most (regular season) games played.

6 years ago in 2020 this record was considered one of the unbreakable records in history except Vince Carter (1,541) had gotten within a season of that and he played 22 seasons.

Robert Parish is best known for his time on the Bird Celtics dynasty where he won 3 titles. He extended out his lengthy career by basically never missing games and moving to a bench role with both the Hornets and the 97 Bulls in his last year.

magic had 138 regular season triple doubles in 906 games, lebron has 123 in 1611. magic, by virtue of actually averaging double digit assists on top of having pretty similar rebounding numbers, gets triple doubles more often. and the showtime lakers were going deep frequently enough to not be so far behind in total playoff games that he missed out on the triple double record

To be fair, if they’d done anything else they wouldn’t have been any good.

But it’s a bit interesting how his injury history gradually tapers off the further away he gets from 01-02 and 02-03 when he only played like ¹⁰⁰⁄₁₆₄ games.

While he posted broadly similar MPG numbers in New Jersey, he wasn’t being asked to do quite as much. Then after that he stuck around a long time on a gradually diminishing minute load.
