Back to backs should be limited to home games for the home teams only. Shouldn’t even have back to backs in the first place.

Road back to back, traveling West to East with less than 24 hours between tips. All this BS about working to make sure to minimize back to backs and yet we get this kind of scheduling quirk.

It’s really time to start the season earlier and end the season later.

I hate back to backs, what is even the reason for them?

Denver has had close to 5 of these this year. The scheduling has been absolutely ridiculous and not surprised that we’ve had our worst injury plagued season by a mile.

Nuggets did this yesterday and like 3 times the past month

This is not uncommon 

In late February of the 1974-75 season, the Chicago Bulls played at Atlanta on Thursday, at Houston on Friday, then at Detroit on Saturday. As part of the same road trip, the following week they played at Phoenix on Thursday, at Los Angeles on Friday, and at Portland on Saturday. In between the two sets of 3 away games in 3 nights, they played at Golden State on the Tuesday.

I have shouted this from the rooftops.

Because the players workday actually ends at 10pm +

What we are calling “back to backs” are actually two games in the same day (24 hour period) since they will be back on the floor within 24 hours of leaving the floor.

If you can absorb that, then you will realize that getting off work at 10:30pm Monday night…and starting work again at 7:30pm on Wednesday. Is actually just the next 24 hour period.

So 10:30 Monday -> 10:30 Tuesday= same day

10:30 Tuesday -> 10:30 Wednesday= NEXT day

So a 7:30pm Wednesday tip, after ending previous game at 10pm Monday. Is actually a back to back.

Tl;dr

Back to backs are actually 2 games in 1 day

Games every other day are actually back to backs

Back to back on a schedule like that is horrible.

Teams should not have to travel for back to back. The NBA needs to work on that.

Pedant complaint: yesterday’s game ended at 11pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) since we are on daylight saving time.

EST is Eastern Standard Time, not just an abbreviation for “Eastern”

ngl p crazy how much sleep u think the players are getting like lebron? they also gotta eat, warm up, prob have some team meetings, etc.

Clippers had a very similar situation with like a 12-16 hour window last year. Anything less than 24 hours is actually against league policy, and even with the 82 game schedule is completely unnecessary. It is just horrible planning on the side of the league.

I don’t understand this. We literally played @Houston back to back with a days rest. It would have been much more effective to schedule those on back to back nights and give a days rest for travel.

Their sleep schedules are completely different than ours, and they have planes that they can actually sleep on and great hotels. It’s not ideal, but they’re the best of the best and compensated accordingly.

Granted, most of us aren’t performing physical tasks, every major airport has 1000s of workers taking redeye flights in coach seats at 1030pm flying cross country, arriving at 600am local east coast time. They grab an uber, drop their bag at their hotel and report for a stressful 9am meeting. I did this many times. It was part of a job with pretty good pay and perks but nothing like what these guys get.

Big deal. Warriors are in the midst of their 2nd 6 game road trip featuring 2 B2Bs/3 games in 4.

You double-counted the timezone change. You can’t apply it to both the end of the Houston game and the flight, you have to pick one or t’other.

That said, cry me a river. With one exception, these are young men, and they are all very fit, except for Doncic ( /s ). The Lakers have four games this week, with only 2 flights, one of which is a hop from Miami to Orlando. If they can’t manage to play 140 minutes of basketball in a week, they should probably seek one of the exceedingly few professions in which they can work even less than 2.5 hours a week. Maybe they are better suited to prostitution, although I understand one has to work very hard in that field to earn eight figures annually.

Hornets had a bad flight delay that had them arriving in Boston at 5 am ahead of the second game of a back to back, they crushed the Cs. Don’t write the Lakers off yet.

Assuming they don’t collapse down the stretch they pretty much wrapped the 3rd seed up last night. I bet bronny and the bench gets a lot of playing time tonight. Will be interesting to see if any of Luka, AR, or LeBron plays

Whoever made this schedule should be fired. Two away games in a row against the same team followed by a back to back in a different state. Just ruthless

Everybody does this, so I’m not coming at you, but it’s EDT not EST now. I just say ET/PT/CT etc to avoid it altogether.

OKC just did this going from Orlando Tuesday night to Brooklyn last night.

Denver basically did the same thing last night, they got into Memphis at 5 am and had to play at 6:30 PM (mtn time that they just came from) This feels like a pretty normal thing for west coast teams

I wonder if they might be a scheduled loss for the Lakers. b2b and the Heat are favored despite Lakers on a 7 game win streak and Lakers just snatched all their tie breakers. They should sweep the rest of their remaining games after this one.

This is honestly ridiculous. damages the integrity of competition.

I don’t understand why so many people think less games would be better for the consumer. The owners will make sure that we the fans are paying more for everything while we get less. Could the schedule be better, absolutely.

Yea this scheduling sucks. Nuggets had a similar case yesterday (still inexcusable loss) and have only had 2 3-game or 4-game homesteads this season.

Will never understand the people that wants less games. There used to be even more back to backs with worse travel, and it was never an issue until the vampire became the commissioner. The reality is modern NBA players are super soft
