Well. It’s because he’s still great AND he is the third option that he can do this.

This is the perfect role for him at this stage of his career.

He has never been this out of the opposing defenses’ focus, never been this free to roam. Entire defenses used to focus on him, now he’s an afterthought most nights while they try to contain Luca and AR.

And the two guys taking all the heat are great passers too. And LeBron sees the game. Offensively, it’s a match message in heaven. To have a still great (in short spurts) LeBron working as finisher / opportunistic scorer, that’s the ultimate luxury.

He doesn’t need to force anything anymore. He can just work mismatches and defensive breakdowns all game long.

If he embraces this role, he can be a menace, absolutely.

He still should be behind Luka and AR, unless he’s red hot or the situation calls for it.

A game like this is possible at this point of his career both because he’s obviously still great in spurts, but also because he’s not the focus of defenses, nor does he need to do most of the playmaking.

Let Luca and Reaves take on the defense’s heat and do most of the playmaking. They are more than up for it.

And let LeBron feast when the opposing team is struggling to control these two. It’s a perfect strategy, for the team and for LeBron.
