For real. This is probably not said enough about OKC version 2… as much as Presti has struck gold in his lottery draft picks, he has also grown in tandem with Coach Mark to allow young players to grow in their role and not just rely on talent alone…

We’ll see how we handle the contracts next year onwards when the max kicks in, but for now, Presti is goated

The Harden trade wasn’t really about talent evaluation though.

A lot of things lead to that trade. Poor ownership at the time, new CBA kicking in, fear of the new repeater tax etc etc.

it was a little bit in Jeremy Lamb being the cornerstone young player to get back

you also can’t overlook the Perkins sight unseen extension as a self imposed constraint - that’s what forced the Ibaka/Harden decision. yes, ownership should’ve just bit the bullet on the extra money (and allowed Presti to amnesty Perk as soon as that was an option) but he did paint himself into a bit of a corner there.

but would agree tho that the lesson learned from the trade was more about maximizing flexibility specifically to get more value out of a superior talent eval process

Harden had a contract in front of him for 4 years for like 50-55 million with a team that just went to the finals. He had a choice and he chose not to sign it. Every move Harden has made has been for money. It’s not good or bad, it’s just a decision. That’s what’s important to him.

Indianapolis hosts the biggest firefighter convention in the country every year, which happens in mid-late April. During the Pacers’ Oladipo era, I went to a playoff game - I think vs LeBron’s Cavs - where the Pacers had an electric win.

While walking out, I heard a firefighter from Philly say “if I were back home in Philly, the whole city would be on fire.” Was the cherry on top of my night.

It was against the Nets. I’m not saying the trade was good or bad, but the knock against McCain is that he’s streaky and won’t be able to stay on the court in a playoff series. Dropping 26 in 29 minutes against a 17-52 team after he scored 6 last game doesn’t really answer either of those questions.

43% from 3 before this game is pretty good for a streaky guy, and scoring 6 points on 6 shots in 12 minutes is not as bad as you make it out to be. If he makes threes in the playoffs, he absolutely will find minutes, his release is quick, he’s not scared to shoot, and he probably got the best range on the team. You can pray on his downfall all you want tho

Even if he is situational at best in the playoffs, if we keep the one seed he played a big role in filling a scoring gap while SGA was out and also hit some big shots in that OT win vs Denver.
