Running away with mvp and clutch player of the year. I know what I’m watching
His stepback three is on auto since the ASB
He’s hit one in the last 2 mins of each of our last 4 clutch games. Every time the clock ducks under 2 minutes in a close game you can essentially pencil in a Shai step back 3 to go in at some point, he could go 0-6 from 3 and I’d still fully expect that step back to fall
I can’t remember the last time there’s been a player where I just expect shots in the clutch to go in every time as much as Shai.
It’s really terrifying to play against.
He went 1-4 in the clutch “within 5 points in the fourth” criteria tonight, how is he running away with anything CpotY after a two week stretch?
He has been amazing, but Ant is still at 68% TS and 8% EFG higher with just 0.5 points less. It’s a season long award, and Ant was head and shoulders above the competition for like 3-4 months

I’ll take my downvotes in an obviously pro-sga thread but I ain’t about to let yall speak this shit into existence! Take your other 25 awards and leave our boy alone 😭
Very real chance that Ant won’t even qualify this year. He needs to play 8 of our final 14 games to qualify for awards, not lookin great if he’s actually out two weeks.
If that happens, I’ll petition for SGA myself.
(plsno)
Luka/Wemby have been great but I don’t get the whole narrative that the MVP race is getting tighter
It’s always been SGA’s to lose and if anything OKC are getting back on track to their early-season dominance post-ASB so I don’t see how he’s remotely lost ground over the last month
Yesterday people were even claiming that SGA is only ahead because of “anti-Luka media bias” it’s like some people think that summing points/rebounds/assists should be how you determine MVP
Brother, it’s the MVP race, the media need to hype it up regardless. In reality, most people understand that the race is between Shai and the 65 game cutoff. It’s going to be really interesting next year, we have 4 mvp caliber players on good teams and Giannis can always make some noise.
SGA, Jokic, Jalen Johnson, Cade, Luka- wait that’s 5 bro you miscounted.
You forgot about Bam bro
You forgot NAW
True
You forgot the orca
Exactly. People get bent out of shape about media narratives when the only thing that really should be considered for the race is betting odds
It’s not getting tighter, Luka is still 80-1 in MVP odds.
It’s more the result that Luka was getting unfair amounts of hate/crticisms recently so now that he is playing insanely well the last couple months, the circlejerk flipped the other direction on here and getting especially loud in certain threads. Also is due to the SGA hate in the sub.
Is insane. I remarked that the MVP race wasnt close and got downvoted. Like Luka’s my guy and he has been overhated even in his December slump but let’s be realistic
Is it unfair if it is valid? He still has nothing to show for his career till now, and already passed up by his peer SGA and the alien Wemby in his 3rd year while never managing to catch up to Jokic and Giannis
He got the Mavs to a finals and then instead of building on that success, he got tossed away in one of the dumbest trades in all of American sports. He isn’t exactly at fault.
I wouldn’t call 5x first team and an appearance nothing.
It’s 100% done at this point unless something really huge happens.
injury is the only possibility voting has been set for a while now
The media are just trying to keep a conversation going. They know it’s Shai’s, just trying to get engagement.
Something something are they better without Jdub 😔
The PRA merchants are the dumbest people. They always say luka leads Shai in PRA, Shai only leads in efficiency. Like efficiency is nothing lmao. Firstly the efficiency is a massive difference, Shai has half the turnovers and leads in all advance metrics.
I get people trying to push a narrative for their boy but come on man, it’s not even close.
Dang. This Shai guy must be learning from his cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Wait, they’re cousins??
Tale of two games. One game he’s doubled the entire time and gets 20 points and distributes like crazy. This game they barely double him and he gets 40.
I’d argue this is what makes someone an MVP level player. Neither option works. Jokic, Luka, and Shai all have this. Wemby is getting there. Giannis had/has this (though he is partially just cause his one thing is so hard to stop)
Wemby is almost there. He’s gonna get 25-30 regardless and his playmaking is improving so quickly
Wemby’s better than Luka imo
Next year the top 3 tier of SGA Jokic and giannis will add Wemby
And if he progresses I think he might just be the best player in the league
There’s already a fair faith argument for it although I have him at 4 rn behind Shai Jokic
I think he’s had a top 2-3 season
My goodness
Might be biased, but I think at current form, he has a huge shout for top 2 now.
Not discrediting Jokic, Giannis, and Luka, but my god, the amount of limitations he places on the opponent’s defence even without being the direct defender, on top of his offensive output…
MVP without question
The only question at this point is whether it should be unanimous.
+/- of -4 lol
cherry picked literally the most useless stat to prove.. what exactly? that he isn’t the MVP?
his team wins without him. how is he the most valuable player?
Talking about Jokic?
let it go buddy, Jokic isn’t winning MVP
I mean if you are going to use a shit stat at least use the season one of +602
is that the highest in the league?
Yes. Second highest is Chet
MVP and now clear CPOY
I had an argument here last week about Ant or Shai being the cpoy I can’t lie the league might have to give it to Shai now if Ant doesn’t go on another crazy stretch
Ant is out for the next couple of weeks I think that’s probably going to seal the deal
What?? Did he get hurt?
Don’t think he left the last game but he’s out at least a week with knee inflammation.
Yep knee hypertension I believe
I’m gonna start pushing some insane narratives if Shai wins all that and goes b2b
Shai winning B2B MVPs, Scoring Titles & a CPOTY would put him in some uncomfortable conversations especially if he can pair it with B2B Finals MVP & Championships
Probably wont win scoring title but its still up for grabs. Luka has been on a tear tho so it’s going to be tough
I think he means scoring title last season and CPOTY this season to go alongside the B2B MVP’s but he’s worded it strangely. Otherwise yeah, he’s wrong - it’s unlikely Shai catches Luka for scoring title this season.
like what kind of conversations?
Positive ones, those are always uncomfortable for r/nba when it comes to SGA
r/nba has definitely been giving SGA his flowers lately.
He’s kinda forced their hand. Hard to hate on a guy putting up consistently great performances.
OKC hasn’t lost a game that SGA played in since January. It’s been quite a while since the haters had any good ammunition
I’ve noticed the past month or so people are kind of accepting how good Shai is and they are just enjoying it more than before. It’s been nice lol
I feel sorry for Ant since he was legit godmode in the clutch most of the season but SGA has been on a different level especially in the last month.
Ant has been crazy in the clutch this season too. I think the recency of Shai’s clutch dominance will probably put him over the edge though.
That’s your MVP should be locked
Honestly has been locked up ever since he dropped 35/9/15 with 0 turnovers and a game winner on the Nuggets
oh no without free throws he onlys scores 31 points on 14⁄27 shooting 😱
People don’t realize how great that is especially when he does this consistently.
Mvp
He was genuinely bad in the first half. Incredible statline after
He was great in the first quarter and was absolutely terrible in the 2nd missed every shot in that Q lol
8⁄10 for 19 points in the third quarter was amazing to watch after that poor first half.
MVP
SGA carving up the perimeter for 40 and Chet just casually anchoring the paint with a 20⁄12 double-double. This Thunder core is just terrifyingly well-constructed for the next decade.
He’s really put up the best back to back shooting guard seasons since Jordan.
Needs to win the title and Finals MVP and it’ll be historic.
one less than naw, curiouser and curiouser. I kid, god damn he’s good.
plus minus ruined by lu dort
Should have had like 10+ assists too if his teammates could make an open shot
easiest MVP choice since I started watching a decade ago.
MVP - witnessing greatness here
Yeah. He is gettin mvp
Unanimous MVP. Mr. SGA
i watched this game and still don’t really understand when he got 40 lol
He was insane. For some reason he ended up with a -4 +/-, which obviously doesn’t reflect how good his game was, but the OKC bench also showed out tonight
