Victor Wembanyama’s response to the Spurs’ first 50-win season in nine years: “There’s growth. There’s still not enough. I want to get at least 60 to balance out my rookie season.”
Love this mindset
Always know there’s more to work for.
I remember when we drafted him I was excited about amazing physical gifts and obvious skill. I was not expecting the S tier mentality this guy brings to everything. The basketball gods love them some breakfast tacos and respectfully thicc women.
The one drawback I see is that people will promptly shit on him whenever he doesn’t deliver, but I think he’ll be able to take it
I’d be a very happy camper if Ware had the mentality that Wemby has. The competitive psychos, always looking to do something a bit better are always great if you wanna win.
It might be clear from the context, but they went 22-60 in his rookie season
We went on that massive 18 game loosing streak lol it was pretty bad
Only balanced it out with an 11 game winning streak this year smh
Thank God for the Pistons.
i remember everyone was saying wemby was gonna have an all time win total increase just like Robinson and Duncan did their rookie years lol
He is “Victor” after all
If they don’t win the title this year, he’s changing his first name.
He can not be a Victor until he’s won the ultimate.
To the spoils go the Victor. Greatest tankathon name.
You look at him, and then you watch cats like Zion, or Ayton or Ben Simmons or KAT adn many others, all of them no 1 picks, and you realise how much of a difference makes the mindset, the intelligence, the phichological aspect of each individual.
All of them are talented, all of them are top picks, all of them are paid crazy amout of money, but you have Wemby who is laser focused on winning and doing all it takes, and the rest of them who seem like they are happy they got in the NBA, they have their money, and dontgive a shit about the goal.
wild to put KAT on that category of all busts. haha
Simmons isn’t a bust.
His lower back is a bust
Not a bust but he failed to meet expectations. He had perennial All NBA combination of skills and measurables coming out of UK and to a degree he put in the numbers, but mentally he wasn’t there.
For all of his talent and size, KAT is a huge letdown. 11 years in the NBA, if he retires today, nobody would notice.
His most memorable game was practice games when Jimmy Buttler trashed him with the backups and G-leaguers.
even if that was all that mattered for him, he should not be in the same conversation as Zion when it comes to this
Yeah KAT, that bum who won ROTY, is a 6x all star and 3x all NBA player just out here being a trash can just like Zion, Ayton and Simmons.
reductive take. most people want to be great or even the best at whatever they are doing but aren’t. that doesn’t mean they don’t care. all the guys you listed, for at least a few years, worked incredibly hard to reach the level of success they did. maybe their careers didn’t go as planned after that (I would argue against this in the case of KAT - idk why u put him in this), but to say its only complacency is just wrong imo. I actually think plateauing, struggling to work hard, a lack of motivation, mental lapses, etc. are very relatable, human issues. these guys are people, at the end of the day.
personally, I wake up every day with huge intentions, and most days I don’t live up to them. there seem to be a few people who come really close, like vic. but that doesn’t mean everyone else is a lazy bum. by that logic, 99.9% of the world is lazy bums.
I remember the hype around Zion. The FO in NO was celebrating like they won the NBA finals.
He’s a different dimension of disappointment to the others tbh.
As a Spurs fan spoil us too much Wemby. Relax.. Then next year you go for 70?🥹
82-0 😂
Jobs not finished
Wonder how long before people begin to call him cocky and that he has a giant ego lol
Well, he has. The guy is French. People still seem te love him for it, but sure enough it will turn on him soon enough.
He will
This gave me a thought of how much do players and coaches care about their career W/L record - like, is Will Hardy secretly pissed about all these Jazz seasons or is he like whatever, eventually we’ll play to win
I Rather he make a deep run in the playoffs which is probs gonna happen
First 50 win season in 409 years!
League is fucked
Imagine if this man got drafted by the wizards
Do it but nothing more pls
Man the spurs really got two of the most likeable superstars- one anchored a dynasty and one looks like he’s poised to. Kinda ashamed to admit 10 yo me hated the spurs when they were playing the heat cuz I was a LeBron dickrider tbh
Just let okc win 1-2 more rings and then dominate the NBA.
It’s that growth mentality that allowed him to be so tall and have such a long penis.
Not sure why we’re talking about 50 wins, are they gonna lose the rest of their games?
