I saw this live and was absolutely stunned at why Richard’s was gettin screamed at. Podz threw a ridiculous bad pass that a high school starter could’ve made better. Richards did all he literally could.

Nah he’s mad because he went behind the back. It was pretty dumb. Pass could’ve obviously been a lot better but at least look where you’re throwing the ball before you throw it away. Also probably could’ve even tried to finish it honestly but he wasn’t really looking at the rim from the start and I’m not sure if he’s that kind of athlete or not but there’s some guys in the NBA that could’ve gotten a really awkward layup attempt off but definitely not all of them could so I’d understand if he isn’t one of them
Kerr definitely saw the behind the back part though that’s why he freaked out. It probably is smarter to run that out of bounds before throwing it behind his back as he himself runs out of the play but that’s not something you’d just start screaming about mid game. That could’ve easily been him throwing the ball to the other team and seeing how his team plays 4 on 5 at the other end even though it didn’t turn out that way in the end

What’s funny is that Podz is a perfectly good role player and I think people rag on him undeservedly a lot of times, but the Warriors and Kerr shine so much of a light on him because they’ve inexplicably hitched their future to his wagon. He didn’t catch the pass under the basket, he captured a loose ball with too much momentum too close to the basket to change directions and make a good field goal attempt.
He did good to save the ball and actually connect it with Podziemski, but not good enough for Podz to control it, which is comparable to the original long pass..
he has 2 hands on the ball before he even gets to the block, you’re tripping if you don’t think that’s enough time to pull the ball out
nobody is asking for him to take a shot, Kerr is asking him not to throw a behind the back pass under

lol sounds like someone who never played a sport in their life. Will is running full speed to a ball that is thrown so far ahead of him. The ball passes him over his head close to halfcourt, it literally lands inside the free throw line when Will is outside the arc and by the time he gets a hand on it, he’s at the same floor length that the restricted circle
Mind you, he did all that in literally TWO seconds. 10⁄10 unless it’s a backdoor cut that isn’t followed through, it’s always the PASSER’S fault, not the receiver. Podz also had a bunch of bad turnovers this game because he kept doing the same pick and roll hesi-cross court pass instead of hitting the roll man or the short side.
2 seconds can be enough to cover 20 yards, why are you acting like that’s a split second action?

This is only sensible if you don’t consider the fact that Podziemski blew a free scoring opportunity with that pass and then also blew Richards’ drop-off pass by being lazy to the spot.
That turnover was like 5% Richards’ fault and 95% Podziemski’s, and Richards was at full speed and effort while Podziemski was half-assing.
You can absolutely coach a better decision, even if you could forgive an in-the-moment high effort play that was a low percentage outcome. But that is a ridiculous display by Kerr, especially with literally zero towards Podziemski.

I think we all knew what had likely happened, he hadn’t seen it well, which is honestly just supporting the fact the level of reaction was ridiculous. I’d understand him questioning what happened, even frustratedly, but he could have done that and gotten an answer from both players and either addressed it if his view was confirmed or moved on when corrected. It was still too much even though he corrected after the fact.
I don’t agree that Podziemski made a “physical mistake”. The issue wasn’t just the bad pass. Bad passes happen, though I’d say within the context of lazy play overall, you could argue a lazy pass is as much or more so a mental mistake than a physical one. But either way he didn’t go “oh shit” and try to hustle up to help his teammate after the pass put him in a tough spot. He just watched the situation and half-assed the rest of the play. Most of what he did in that clip was textbook coachable mental problems.

Not necessarily, but I do not agree that this was some horrible throwaway on the part of Richards, considering if Podziemski hadn’t watched his obviously horrible pass and then jogged down the court, and instead would have followed the play like he should have, this would just have been Richards saving the possession… which is ultimately what Kerr is yelling about - possession.
I don’t know how you can watch Richards make a good defensive play, hustle his ass off, and get screwed on both ends of that play by some lazy bullshit from Podziemski, and then think the thing that needs addressing is that Richards chose the wrong probable outcome on a high energy, high effort play lol

It’s a bad pass but 1. Richard shouldn’t throw the ball back into multiple defenders while he’s out of position and 2. If he looked up he could have gone straight up with it and made a layup. He goes behind the back still a few feet away from the hoop I think he just got a bit lost tracking the ball
